Hanzee could track and ambush Malvo, but Malvo could also counter-ambush Hanzee. The main problem is that the moment they set eyes on each other, they'd have the full measure of one another. Of the three men who came closest to killing Malvo, two (including the one who did it in the end) were men he'd already dismissed as cowards.
Malvo would know what Hanzee is the moment he saw him. Hanzee would be unable to surprise Malvo, because Malvo knows that Hanzee is dangerous and thus would always be on guard if he suspected he was around. And the same for vice versa. Either could, potentially, strike in surprise and kill the other, but if either knew the other was about, they'd be much too cautious to do something like that.
That's all before Hanzee gets fat and italian, though.
season 2 is honestly some of the most entertaining television i've ever watched. season 1 is pretty great too. looking forward to s3 with mcgregor

When Hanzee says he need a new face, he possibly wasn't speaking literrally, but needed a new public face, and that's the guy who give him the ID. Even with the age change, it seems much more possible than race changing plastic surgery in he 80's.
