One of my favs ever.
Minority Report is 2nd.
>>
I've come around on Tom Cruise. Jack Reacher and Edge of Tomorrow are great.
>>
>>71232149
I love that movie and I hate all the bullshit people sprout on to hate it. The plur of Samurai is fucking Samurai. The movie wasn't about Tom Cruise being the last of the Samurai, it was about the last of the samurai.

Nathan Algren comes to Japan having seen the horrors of war in the west. He is an outside in Japan but an outsider in his heart, having reserves and concerns over his home. He is then captured and made a further outsider with the clan. He is slowly indoctrinated into their way of life. He learns their culture, their tradition, becomes like a brother to one and even falls in love with one of their women. He feels out home with them, he isn't an outsider anymore.

So then he defends his new home. And he fails.

That's what makes this movie pure kino is that Nathan isn't the last of the samurai. He watches his new family, their way of life, everything he has come to love die. He finally found something worth fighting for and lost it all. He couldn't even follow them in the final art of seppuku.

LOOK AT THIS FUCKING SCENE:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZTWCwqmgLc

That is pure fucking kino. Again he is an outsider, they bow to HIM. He looks around and sees the natives in his old clothing, him in theirs. Everything is reversed, everything is fucked up. He knows he has to do anything he can to make it right. That is why he talks to the emperor. That is why he doesn't follow them. He is a stranger between both worlds, completely alone and without a home.

This movie is a tragedy. A beautiful, beautiful tragedy about a lost man with a desperate desire for something more in this world. Only to find it, live it, and lose it all.

>>71232242
>le white savior the movie
It's not the white savior, he FAILED. Everything beautiful and wonderful about this world is missed by fucking normies who take everything at the face value the media and critics tell them it fucking is. I fucking hate all of you.
>>
>>71232496
Look at this fucking scene when he tells the emperor that he will gladly take his life if he were to command him to.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zO9NxDcF-aA

He is WISHING he would do so. He wants to go, he wants to die as a samurai, he wants to follow his family. But of course his unknown request is denied as an act of kindness when it is actually a terrible curse. He must go on living, never fully belonging in the old world or the new.

Why does this have to be forced in every thread? It's the most pathetic aspect of this board, we get it, you're a big manly man for liking sentimental action movies and posting about them on the internet
>>
War of the Worlds was average for based Tom, but it was worth seeing in the theater

Spectre was shit, so that's no big praise

As someone who really enjoyed Spectre, MI5 was the WAY better spy movie.
That Opera scene is the best Bond sequence not in a Bond flick.

i didn't really like the movie, but he's pretty good in vanilla sky.

tom cruise is kind of like a lite version of bruce willis. they both do all these mediocre to shit action movies, but every once in a while we get a 12 monkeys or magnolia and they're fucking great in them

>For me a 7 is very good btw.

This is fucking retarded. You are the only critic using this metric of 'stuff I like', and you made a scale from 1 to 10. That doesn't mean that a 7 is very good, it means that you tell yourself that you need to give movies low numbers because you're afraid that, if someone asks your opinion (which they never do, hence you submitting it unasked-for on 4chan) you'll accidentally reveal that you like something they don't like. You're afraid that if you say something like, "Edge of Tomorrow is one of my favourite films, if I had to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 9," that the other guy will disagree, and you'll have to defend that.

Look at that fucking list, everything is between 7 and 5. You created a 10 point metric for yourself, then limited yourself to three grades, because anything outside that range is grounds for contention. You know that normal people actually use the full 10 points, but if you give the blandest answer you can then qualify it based on how they react, and you never have to actually put forth a strong opinion and have it challenged. Better to be safe and avoid potentially offending anyone or having a different viewpoint given to you.

Oprah was over the moon about it and dedicated a whole show to shilling it. Shit movie btw.
>>
>>71233700
>Most famous actors are manlets
this is objectively wrong, and even among manlets cruise is one of the shortest
>>
>>71233659
willis still cares, i think he's just kind of jaded now

even then he still does some ok stuff, he was alright in moonrise kingdom, sort of miscast for that role but it was fine

for action movies, specifically, cruise is significantly better than willis. willis has done a lot of good/great action movies, but pretty much nothing significant in the past 10 years
>>
>>71233363
Neither are as good as the original but better than 2 and 3
>>
>>71233603
I'm not a critic and the ratings are a rough record of how much I think I enjoyed a film (shortly after watching it) since in most cases I will never be able to remember that otherwise. 3s and 4s aren't uncommon although I never hope to watch 3s or 4s as it means I didn't like them. To me the most important jumps are between 6, 7 and 8 since those are the movies I like and at the end of the day that's all I care about. Is it really so unbelievable that none of those movies that I've seen, that Tom Cruise has starred in has been below a 5/10?

The ratings aren't for showing off to others. They're for me and no one else. If someone asked me if I liked Edge of Tomorrow I would say "yes I liked it a lot."

I've never rated a 10 btw ;)
>>
>>71233561

That's fine. I'm just not comfortable with rating a 10. Maybe one day.

I just watched Jack Reacher because of a Tom thread earlier today.

That shit sucked balls.

The "fight" in the bathroom didn't come of as funny (assuming that was what they were going for). It just felt out of place.

>DeFault Auto Parts
>mfw

Tom can't pull off comedy like other action heroes. Arnie could back in the day, Ryan Reynolds, etc

Not terrible I suppose, just makes me mad when I'm reminded that every board on this shit site attracts those with the worst judgement in their respective topics
