Method acting is for people who literally don't know how to act. If you have to resort to extreme lengths such as embodying your character 24 hours a day then that means you don't understand your role at all. Who is a better actor? The guy who reads the script, understands the character's role in the story, and can play the role based on that or the guy who has to literally become the character throughout the entire shoot or for months beforehand because he has to get in the character's head?

Certain parts of method acting make sense, it's just been meme-ified over the years. Robert De Niro didn't work as a taxi driver just to get into Travis Bickle's psychology, he did it so he could comfortably navigate Manhattan traffic on-camera without making it look stressful or difficult. He had to learn a skill, because his character has that skill, and needs to be able to display it on camera.
That's proper method acting. Not taking an excuse to treat people like shit and act like a crazy twat just because you're playing a comic-book character.
Not even close all he is doing is annoying his co stars so that they hate working with him, he is hopeful that it will come across in the movie that they really don't like him at all. It will make the interactions more realistic if during the taping the other actors and genuinely worried that he will do something and ruin the take. Im sure other actors have done far far more stuff to prepare or during a role.
What is pathetic is the movie studio using it to try and sell the movie.

These are three different characters with three completely different motives. Alex wanted power, the Joker wanted total chaos, and Tyler wanted a better world.
Also the picture is clearly trying to come across as if they're all evil, which they're not (with the exception of Alex maybe). at least the joker and Tyler feel they see something wrong with the world and are trying to fix it. So, if morality is relative, they're actually the good guys, fighting against a world of bad guys.

The difference is his portrayal lead people to believe the movie affected his life. The people around him just didn't displace that.
This is inverted believing the masses need to believe he is that level by manufacturing it. Since most people already liked heath there was no reason to dissuade people of their notions. If they wanted to believe something he did that was awesome lead to his death so be it, which is also why they gave him a posthumous Oscar if I remember correctly.
