Emmerich said this sequel sets up an intergalactic travel in the 3rd done but how does that happen in Resurgence?
>>
Is it worth to see in cinema?
>>
>>71215072
If the alien mothership only destroyed the satellite defense around the asia-pacific region, then why didnt the other satellites turn towards earth and bombard it from space?

What happened with the Mars base? Why did the friendly mind uploading aliens destroy Saturn's moon and the human base but stop at the Moon's base?

Why are the fighter pilots a bunch of captains and lieutenants despite being in their early 20s? Why are the pilots in their early 20s anyway instead of being 30+ like normal pilots?

Why could helicopters hover with the alien engines but jet fighters couldn't?

Why didn't they remove the encounter suits from the aliens in the Area 51 prison? That's like leaving a bunch of military POWs in full combat gear (minus weapons).

How did the aliens mind control the female president without having their tentacles around her neck?

Why did only the Americans launch a counter attack? I know Asia/Europe got fucked by the aliens, but what about African/Latin American/Australian or other remaining nations?

Humans join an interstellar alliance of surviving alien races to fight against the enemy aliens who are hated throughout the universe.

>"we are going to kick some serious alien ass"
>*credits roll*

Does Robert Loggia make a cameo?

Is there a statue of Randy Quaid honoring his heroic sacrifice?
>>
>>71216558
>>71216583
Did they try to explain how there were more of those aliens when everyone thought they'd gone extinct at the end of ID4?
>>
>>71216658

Statue of a white man, what the fuck is wrong w you
>>
>>71216579
Humanity has the a united military force. After the aliens destroy the Chinese-led moon base then the earth recalls all of its fighters to the global defense headquarters in Area 51. They launch an attack on the alien fleet (which was only like 100 fighters) and most were destroyed. It seemed like a mostly-USA thing though.

>>71216658
>Is there a statue of Randy Quaid honoring his heroic sacrifice?
No they completely disregarded him but the President from the first movie performs a similar kamikaze attack on the aliens.

>Does Robert Loggia make a cameo?
Yes but he just sits there. He looks like he is on death's door (he died IRL a few months ago apparently).
>>
>>71216714
No it's a bit of a retcon. You just have to go with their logic that the aliens that attacked in the first movie were only a small fragment of their population instead of their entire species. There are possibly thousands or millions of world destroying ships out there in the universe.

They also won a 1,000 year war against mind uploading aliens that are friendly to humans now.
>>
>>71216420
Why do people clap at the movies?
fucking retarded
>>
>>71216777
Because Americans find it fun to be active participants in the film instead of being passive. We do more than just clap.
>>
You just know that in the third movie they're going to reveal that Will Smith didn't really die but it was a coverup for him to go and do some top secret shit.
>>
How was Brent Spiner as Dr. Okun? He was always one of my favorite things from the first one.
>>
>>71216768
>No it's a bit of a retcon.

Holy shit man, the President even said in the first one that they travel from plant to planet with their whole race inside the damn mothership, he wasn't guessing that alien in Area 51 told him that!

btw, do we see some interaction with the 'good' aliens, how do they come into play? some sort of telepathy communication again full of exposition?
>>
How the fuck do they explain Brent Spiner still being alive?
>>
>>71216813
The reason he's not in this one is because he wanted too much money. He'd have to ask for less money because even if this one did well enough that they could give him what he wants they're much more likely to turn around and say "Fuck you Will, we didn't even need you to made mad dollars"
>>
>>71216852
>that alien in Area 51 told him that!

perhaps the hostile alien invader was lying to the president
>>
>>71216845
Same as usual. Turns out he was actually gay and had a secret relationship with another gay scientist. His boyfriend is shot up by the aliens (not sure if he died).
>>
>>71216853
He was knocked out from the psychic connection with the aliens and stuck in a 20 year coma. When the new alien queen arrives, he and the alien survivors wake up (they are comatose as well because no queen and they arent fighting for survival since they are stuck in prison).
>>
>>71216882
Well, it's a way to retcon but you know they dont do that in movies, that was real info for the viewers, not some misdirection. Whatever
>>
>>71216852
>btw, do we see some interaction with the 'good' aliens, how do they come into play? some sort of telepathy communication again full of exposition?
The good alien is the last surviving member of aliens that uploaded their minds into machines a long time ago. It's literally a large flying sphere that learns to speak english in some cutsey girl voice. It's race fought and lost a 1,000 year war against the enemy aliens. They also are the leaders of an inter-species alliance of survivors from worlds that the bad guy aliens destroyed. Humans seem to be the only alien race who have kept their homeworld in one piece. And now we are the only species who has defeated an alien queen in open combat.
>>
>>71216853
The alien put him in a coma, which is actually canon in the first movie. Everyone decided to do that since the creators enjoyed Spiner's performance so much that they decided to keep him alive in case of a potential sequel, in the script he dies.

20 years later it's paid off.
>>
>>71216882
May not have been a lie, but the psychic connection is hard for humans to understand so he may have been confused or misled on his own. The aliens do travel from world to world sucking up all the resources, but they are not all contained in a single fleet afaik. There are likely many fleets.
>>
>>71216857
>>71216813

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Why-Smith-Isn-t-Independence-Day-Resurgence-72184.html

>The answer is complicated. During a press event on behalf of the launch of the anticipated sequel, Emmerich addressed the absence of his A-list star. The way that the director recounted, Smith initially was very excited about returning to Independence Day, where he’d once again play courageous fighter pilot Captain Steven Hiller. Emmerich told us that the sequel was going to have a father-son aspect to it, with young Jessie Usher cast as Hiller’s child, Dylan. Vivica A. Fox even agreed to return as former-stripper Jasmine. The family unit was basically intact for Independence Day: Resurgence.

>Then, as Emmerich puts it, After Earth happened. And all of a sudden, Will Smith wasn’t eager to rush into a science-fiction story structured around a father-son duo on an adventure. Emmerich told us:

>In the very beginning, I wanted to work with him and he was excited to be in it but then after a while he was tired of sequels, and he did another science fiction film, which was his father-son story, so he opted out."

He opted out cuz it was the same fucking shit.

this is so weird for a movie like this
>>
>>71218478

you know how tense and good the build up is in ID4 (mostly) in the first 40 minutes? take all of that out of the movie and replace it with the boring, tedious shit.

also there is only one fighter scene which is confusing as fuck and gave me a migraine because the alien ships and human ships are the same. the ending set piece was fucking retarded too.
>>
Also the soundtrack was AWFUL generic shit apart from a few beats from the first movie and the end credits which was just the first movie's end credits.
>>
>>71218354
He was trying to get information about the alien's plan
>>
>>71216214
1. they were in stationary orbit.

2. Mars base wasn't even mentioned in the movie. It wasn't the friendly ship that did that. It was the cloaked alien ship with it's own gravity. The friendly ship stopped at the moon base because it wanted to beat the other aliens to Earth.

3. To be fair they are in their late 20's. I'm sure most of the pilots were in their 30's, it was just the main cast that weren't.

4. They can hover too. Several scenes show it.

5. They were all comatose after their mother ship was destroyed. They also didn't have the right life support systems to keep them alive like their suits could for that long a period of time.

6. They didn't. this wasn't in the movie.

7. We were the closest to the mother ship. There were also some forces from other nations in the fight as well since it was a force made up for people from other nations..
>>
>>71218354
The aliens didn't tell their master plan, but they were so overjoyed that they had a new queen and probably felt stupidly confident of their victory.
>>
also did anyone notice how shit some of the CGI was? when the smaller ship comes out of the bigger ship and flies off it looked like something out of babylon 5
>>
>>71218589
>1. they were in stationary orbit.
So? The alien ship was over the atlantic/north america/europe where there were still operational defense platforms.
>2. Mars base wasn't even mentioned in the movie. It wasn't the friendly ship that did that. It was the cloaked alien ship with it's own gravity. The friendly ship stopped at the moon base because it wanted to beat the other aliens to Earth.
If it was the bad aliens that destroyed the saturn base then why did the friendly alien ship make a similar pattern when it arrived at the moon?
>3. To be fair they are in their late 20's. I'm sure most of the pilots were in their 30's, it was just the main cast that weren't.
The asian fever guy said that he was 23.
>4. They can hover too. Several scenes show it.
You're right, I remember now.
>5. They were all comatose after their mother ship was destroyed. They also didn't have the right life support systems to keep them alive like their suits could for that long a period of time.
Seems plausible.
>6. They didn't. this wasn't in the movie.
When the female president was being attacked she said something that sounded like she was being mind controlled. I forget what exactly she said.
>7. We were the closest to the mother ship. There were also some forces from other nations in the fight as well since it was a force made up for people from other nations..
Yeah you're right, I remember now.

>>71218747
Yeah there was some really bad CGI.
>>
>>71218828

She said "There will be no peace" and I don't think she was being mind controlled? Not sure.
>>
>>71218828
Do they reference Pullman's epic speech from the first one or try to have a new one?
>>
>>71218828
The orbital platforms were also facing away from earth. and I think each orbital section is controlled by their respective nations. (Pan-Pacific, Europe, North America, etc) When most of Europe and Asia was taken out they lost control of their defense systems.

Earth's moon would have been destroyed as well had it been the friendly ship. Also Coriolis effect. The friendly was coming through a wormhole while the alien ship's massive gravity was pulling in Saturn's rings.

I said the main cast weren't.

She blatantly said "There will be no peace." to their faces because she knew she was about to die. Meaning she wasn't even going to try.
>>
>>71218922
They have two horrible replays of the speech, one at the beginning with the most ghetto cgi ever, and one later on when they find out the alien spaceship was sending a distress call. There's also two very, very weak speeches, one by Pullman himself even, that fall flat and don't inspire at all. There's a ton of references to the first movie. It's like one reference every few minutes.
>>
>>71218922
yes. at the very beginning of the movie.
>>
>>71219072
>The orbital platforms were also facing away from earth
Well I'll have to assume then that they couldn't change the orientation of the weapon to fire towards the Earth for whatever reason.

>>71218889
>>71219072
>"There will be no peace"
I thought that's what the aliens or alien queen was saying. As in the war will never end until humans are extinct.
>>
>>71218922

at the start with some shitty ass CGI and for some reason the speech was broadcast into the cosmos

he also threatens to break into doing another speech later but its weak as shit and no one pays attention.
>>
>>71216976
>The entire known universe is filled with seriously retarded alien races
>>
>>71219121
Also, like I mentioned in another post, there are a ton of references to the first movie. The part where Dr Okun was being controlled by the alien had the alien saying "Peace? No peace." so I assumed that the part in this movie was a reference to that scene, with the aliens continuing their logic of peace being impossible between humans and the aliens.
>>
it seemed a weird retcon that the aliens were actually drilling into the center of the earth during the first movie

if so why the fuck were they flying around destroying cities?
>>
>>71215072
Was there a Brexit vote?
>>
>>71219357
I thought of that too, and the only thing that I could think of was that they had to distract humans long enough for their drilling machine to do it's work.
>>
>>71219439

was a dumb retcon that made no sense and thats about when the movie lost me completely. i was cracking up with laughter once bill pullman put on the fucking pilot uniform.

> Humans join an interstellar alliance of surviving alien races to fight against the enemy aliens who are hated throughout the universe
This sounds pretty fuckin neato desu.
>>
>>71219521

there is a ship in africa that landed and was drilling to the core of the earth during the first invasion.

the central plot of this one is that they're doing it again and the ship will drain the earths core leaving it without a magnetic field and destroying all life on earth. so basically the main plot of ID4 was pointless apart from blowing up the mother ship.
>>
>>71219547

the actual concept of this movie isn't the problem. the execution is just really bad and thats without bringing up the complete lack of charisma amongst the new main cast.

it was a bit like the force awakens, relies on nostalgia and imagery of the old movie but far more boring.
>>
>>71219547
it does but in the hands of these hacks you can beat your ass it will be immensely underwhelming and dumbed-down if they get around to making the threequel, just like this "friendly aliens/AI" thing described here
>>
>>71219489
Yeah it was completely pointless and only served as a hint to the bigger ship coming (they both have landing legs and drilling capabilities). The reality is that all they needed was some alien survivors sending out a distress call.

>>71219547
It sounds dangerously close to the plot of Falling Skies, which itself was horribly bad.

>>
Did you gave a good time? All I want is what is essentially a fun rollercoaster of a movie.
>>
>>71219596
>>71219658

Definitely not a coincidence since the director is a huge SW fanboy who's been putting references to the OT since forever, names, soundtrack, action, you name it, he did it. ID4 had quite a few obvious ones, like the beginning of the end titles soundtrack

that and this movie is just another in the current nostalgia trend that's been plaguing cinema for years now, so also convergent thinking
>>
I saw it too.
Honestly, it's not a great movie, and it knows that. It doesn't try to be some serious Oscar-winning movie, it knows what it is and does its best to be a fun, schlocky, cheesy 90s-style summer blockbuster.
Hell, it's a better sequel than Force Awakens, ID2 doesn't rehash the original movie for cheap cheers by the audience, it just wants to be a dumb blockbuster. It has the same spirit as the original movie without reusing lines or throwing out callbacks, or copying scenes or whole plotlines.
It's just a fun movie. It's not amazing, but it's good for what it is. And if you want to take the movie seriously, then you're just not the target audience.
>>
>>71215072
Is it worth the price of admission?
>>
>>71219642
I think that's going to be in the fourth movie (if they have one). The third one seems to be more of a travel adventure to meet the alien alliance.
