This. The War of the Five Kings was just one storyline that was of a greater whole, and it ended up with both the heroes and the bad guys getting BTFO. The mistake was that they marketed it as "Game of Thrones" as if it defined the show.

Tywin's death in the books and show marked the series slipping into mediocrity. It's a shame cause books 1-3 are pretty good for a fantasy series and seasons 1-3 are good and 4 is decent but after that there is a serious dip in quality for both the books and show.

I think since the red wedding (the scene itself was decent) the show has really turned bad for me. There were already (altered) plotlines and scenes which were pretty bad or didn't make sense, but since the red wedding it feels like the show is just a train ride from one big "shocking" moment to the next, without exploring any of the consequences of these moments.
The red wedding is the best example, because it is still a major plot-point 2 books after it has happened. Everyone is still very mistrusting of the Freys/Boltons and/or plotting revenge and rightly so, while in the show we haven't really seen any of this. People seem to dislike Lady Stoneheart, but she is the kind of thing that happens in ASOIAF when you do something as horrible as the red wedding. Comparing this to the show, Arya is maybe going to kill Walder this season or the next?

That plotline writing is shit but Hound is still a decent character and they didn't manage to butcher him yet.
I noticed that generally we have 4 plotlines that get any real atention, the rest is just rushed and porly writen.
Hound coming back plotline ends in a matter of one episode with septon Schwerenger murder(good use of great actor, give us more Danerys making retarded faces), we don't even get to see how he was during his paceful times after duel with Brien. Maybe a guy chopping trees wasn't as interesting as war in the north but he was a prominent character and it would be nice to get some buildup before he comes back.
Kingsmoot, a big political event is resolved in a two-three scenes, no buildup, we don't even get to know the new king.
Meanwhile writers waste time on clifhanger in Meren, with the Masters atacking the city. Guess what, it takes two scenes in the next episode to get over with it. Sons of The Harpy are the worst "faction" in the show, they are plot device for the writers to either show how badass Danerys is(god know that we didn't get enough of that) or get some heap clifhangers.
