To be fair, Friends is pretty shit as well. HIMYM pulls the drama strings a bit more but there are still some fairly stand-out moments that occur during the series, much like Friends. Both are easily forgettable, although Friends does have Chandler. HIMYM doesn't really have any redeemable quality characters, so I'll give it that.
I really hold the two in basically the same light though.

I feel like they're both watchable, but I understand where you're coming from. The writing and approach to the comedic parts is very different in regards to both shows. I originally hated HIMYM but, at the time, had never watched Friends either (grew up watching Seinfeld, Frasier, etc.). I watched HIMYM first and then Netflix added Friends, so I ended up watching that. It may just be a different approach to the shows.
