The Danes were not oppressed. Hitler viewed Scandinavians as even more pure "Aryan" than Germans, so the army was ordered to take it very easy on the population. Practically all the Jews living in Denmark managed to flee to Sweden (and now Sweden is paying the price), with the help of Danes, and Germany did nothing to stop them.

He was famous enough to get a movie so he was almost certainly famous enough to get his photo in the papers. Making a "Hero of the People" out of someone isn't very helpful if they don't know who he is.

For the reasons outlined above they wouldn't have to. They would telegraph a "be on the look out for this person he is wanted for desertion" to their various commands and then that information would be passed on to checkpoint/border guards and police.
