What I remember is that he saw Blade Runner when he was almost done with Neuromancer. Realizing the movie did a lot of similar things to his story in a better/more visual way he decided to rewrite a lot of the book. Even after rewriting he was still afraid people would call him a hack/copycat.

>Didn't know Childhood's End had a miniseries. How is it?
When I saw the trailer I thought it was going to be lame, and that it would shit all over the story; I was wrong. Because it is an adaptation of a 60 year old novel for modern TV, it deviates a lot from the original story. However, although some of the changes are really hit-and-miss, it manages to stay true to its main themes. Karellen is masterfully portrayed by Charles Dance, and the ending is really good. The VFX are also stunning for a Syfy series. It is worth a watch.
>>
>>71166631
I think it could work, the narrating might seem weird at first but I think people would get used to it quickly, especially if it used direct quotes from the book as they have a certain realistic speech like quality.

Some guy(s) on /lit/ always post about the theory that Holden rapes his sister. There is a multiple page PDFs of this theory full of reaching and mental gymnastics about how he shortens conversations like he's leaving incriminating things out, and how he has "Freudian slips" like Catcher in the rye=Catch Her in the rye. There's also some shit about how that is why he was sent away. Lots of focus on quotes like the one about how Phoebe dresses really nice and can really "knock you out" or how he pinches her butt in that one scene. There's some shit that's even stupider but it's so stupid and convoluted that I wasn't able to remember all of it.
Holden doesn't rape Phoebe.

If you went in expecting a traditional narrative with strong character development and visceral prose, then it's disappointing. But that's not the point. Asimov was inspired by the history books he read and the Foundation Trilogy was written to be a sort-of science fiction history text.

Based Mule?

Second Foundation?

Its pretty good, but Asimov has his own style. Its not about action and pew pew at all. Its about the world and the characters. The first two foundation novels were published in installments for magazines originally. So they had to be short and simple enough to pick up and put down between issues. But I'm a sucker for that old pulp sci fi, so its just icing on the cake.
