He has an eye for details that I've seen in anything else, he can focus on something you'd normally pass over and present it in brilliant composition. Whether he does it purposefully, or whether it's a fluke by-product of his camera-work, I'm yet to know.
The best way I can explain it, is that he's very blunt in the way he presents things, in a hyper-blockbuster/japanese action tv style way, but plays around with it. So within all the in-your-face bullshit he throws at you, there's also very subtle things to pick up on. I find it quite interesting.
The only trouble is a lot of this is drowned out in his saturation of long-winded, messy dialogue which sometimes destroys the very atmosphere he creates.

Metal Gear has always and will always be a silly game with a silly plot.
Why? Because it's a game, this is what he's trying to tell you. You're not a badass on a redpilled mission, most of the time you get duped and you realize how naive you were, it's just a game.
That's why you have a russian cowboy, gay ninjas cyborgs and Zorro. Because it's silly, it's surrealistic, it's something that can only be justified by: it's just a game.
It's a game and you're just supposed to have fun. The overly complicated and convoluted plot is a mockery at how video games try so hard at shoving complex story that ultimately, nobody gives a fuck about.
It's just a context, a frame, a background. That's why quiet is naked and jump around stabbing dicks.
