I just watched Donnie Darko (15 years late and I regret it) and it was fucking incredible.
The sound direction especially was godtier.

Anyone seen Richard Kelly's other stuff? Southland Tales, Domino, or The Box? I think I've seen people on here saying Southland Tales is good.
OP might want to check out the dark comedy indie film The Good Girl. It's another great performance by young Gyllenhaal and a hugely underrated performance from Jennifer Aniston. Also look out for Zooey Deschanel taking a break from being quirky as the sassy Cheryl.

Just after that Cash did some covers of big songs that led to those American Recordings CDs of covers of really big songs - I think that really raised his profile.
