What are some films that
– were perceived very well by both critics and viewers upon release
– were financially successful
– were regarded as a masterpiece of world cinema
– collected an oscar for best picture, and possibly some other oscars as well
– remained popular among critics and viewers for ages to come
– are still praised as one of the greatest of all time
– aged very well and are easily accessible by modern viewer who is not into cinema?

yeah just like Mickey Rooney's portrayal of Mr. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

That's one scene that kinda stands out... (not as badly, but not as funny either)

Don't get me wrong FANTASTIC MOVIE, but I think DUNE stands up better..

There's nothing- nothing at all- wrong or that didn't 'age well' with Rooney in Breakfast At Tiffany's.
Of course, if you're a sjw things change and it's all problematic, triggersome and ugh. But these kind of '''people''' don't count.
>>
>>71091748
Oh I understand, I just never really liked the movies. Never seem to fit with my taste... It's not really a drama it's not really an action. It's a realism movie about unrealistic scenario. You know?

Compared to Raging Bull or Taxi Driver or Goodfellas or Casino or Gangs of New York or The Departed.... I think these are all better movies in the same genre. They know how to pull action and drama and good dialogue.

What the fuck was the Godfather EVEN FUCKING ABOUT?! ANY OF THEM?!

Hardly even suspense, just boring. I am not one to ever complain about boring movies. I love suspense in a movie, but just like a drawn out movie for "Drama" sake.

It's like one long dramatic pause. Fucking Plan 9 from Outer Space was better.
>>
>>71091874
This. Mickey Rooney is the best part of that movie.

You think this aged bad? Are you idiot? From your point of view there are no good aged films at all. Everything is a milk. Because this one right here aged 10 times better than original Star Wars.
>>
>>71091791
We live in a day and age where this is just weird looking. It's like if you were to look at Shakespearian plays where the women are portrayed as men. It's a sign of the times, not a timeless role.

My good taste does not make me a social justice warrior, I am not asking for them to take this down, change the movie or redo this scene ein cgi. I am mearly pointing out a flaw that doesn't really detract, just elaborates the datedness of the film.

The rest of film is doesn't do it except for the only powerful arab in the movie, so sorry if racism didn't become as modern as you thought it was world wide, but sidenote (there's a reason they don't do this anymore, and it pre-dates SJW mammy)
>>
>>71091595

Guinness's character isn't even the most important Arab in the movie. Anthony Quinn and Omar Sharif get more screen time.

Badlands
>>
>>71091934
I can't think of a single thing about that movie that I liked, except the anticipation of seeing such a classic movie.

Plan 9 was at least entertaining.

>>71091975
Not true, Planet of the Apes aged well, hell even Metropolis aged well, Good bad and ugly, lots of movies aged well, Lawrence is more like Spartacus and 2001 then Clockwork Orange and Dr. Strangelove. Raging Bull and Great Escape...

There's a lot more obviously, but it's just the only good part about Lawrence is the actor. He was so fucking amazing. The charisma he exuded was a KEY ELEMENT for his character, which really did seem like a luminal part of his personality. Whimsical and but still youthful, despite his appearance.

EVeryone else played the roles more or less like people did in those days, more like a stage show then a movie.

THAT is the line between modern cinema and older ones. If they were acting like it was a theater, or acting like it was on the big screen. And Lawrence was filmed on the panavision too, so I understand why he had that mentality.

You seen White Girls? That's kinda why we don't do that shit now.

You know, that and it's just kinda dumb looking.

Frankly when I saw it as a kid, it seemed normal, but now that i've grown up, it just pulls me out of the immersion.

It's not the best makeup.... it's more like Team America too... there's a lot more "farce" about doing that then anything.

It does suck that you can't do that now, but it's just how it goes. If he was East Indian it might have worked. The fact is the pool of actors looking for work is bigger then just 100 people now.

True, chinatown certainly isn't as transcendent or well regarded as other titles, but it's far from a shitty movie and has held up very well in comparison to a lot of work from the same era. At the very least it's worth mentioning if we're talking about legendary cinema.

No, no, friendo, I agree it's an absolute masterpiece and quite legendary for cinema's history. My point is only because in the OP there's the

thing, and Chinatown got- widely thought, I mean- 2nd place that year, even if going in the ceremony as the favorite. But it lost to another masterpiece, at least.

Lord of the Rings trilogy? Some of the CGI used in Return looks like ass today, but Towers and Fellowship are still great watching. Not sure which ones collected oscars though.

That's quite a specific set of criteria, you won't find many movies that meet those requirements. But Lawrence of Arabia is without a doubt the best film that meets all those requirements.

Are you an absolute fucking moron? I'm asking this question seriously because never in my whole life have I ever seen such a fucking dumb opinion. Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that you were on /tv/, I'd expect you to be a severely mentally-retarded kid because your opinion here is literally down-syndrome level. It is, by far, the most stupidest fucking thing I've ever read here. And I'm sure everyone else here is confused by it too because they probably can't work out how a down-syndromed kid managed to find his way to /tv/. But you did. And now we have to put up with your stupid fucking opinion being in this thread to only cause further confusion for those who stumble upon it. Thanks a whole fucking lot. I hope you and your shit stupid opinion fall in a fire and die. You're fucking dead, kiddo.
