>Mark Hamill
>One night only theatrical release
http://www.fathomevents.com/event/batman-the-killing-joke

Is anyone else going? I've been following the development of this for years. I am so hyped I will get to see it on the big screen. I'm going to bring an extra large bag of spaghetti for this one.
>>
capekino confirmed
>>
Looks like absolute trash. Must have spent too much money getting the voice actors back to put any budget in the animation.

It's really funny for those iconic shots when they go from their cheap-ass style to tracing Brian Bolland. I feel for anyone that was looking forward to this trainwreck.

I'm going to assume it's US only, so I won't be seeing it in cinema. Which is a pity, I wonder what kind of an experience something the quality of Batman TAS would be when seen on the huge screen.

They should have hired Japanese animation studio like Madhouse to do the animation for it.

Who draws two barrels for no reason whatsoever?

You wouldn't draw a car with two steering wheels for no reason, would you?

That makes sense with old black powder guns since you'd ram the powder and ball inside of the cylinder without taking it out of the gun, but this shit here makes no sense at all.

I wouldn't care either way. If it has a few wheels and it looks like a box holding people then the artists did their job.

he's not that good, he's probably a cynic who never truly enjoyed the medium but recognized it had advantages he could exploit, and that he did with Miracleman and Watchmen. But I think most of his contempt is aimed at his audience, he probably thought of himself as a novel writer who couldn't get published and had to resort to comic books instead as some sort of step down.

It's a western cartoon. The characters have the same problems.
>>
>>71010909
But thats was the best part of it. I might catch flak for this but I agree with most of the criticism the story receives for Joker sexually assaulting batgirl,

My issue isn't that its not something the Joker isn't capable of, but when she was originally introduced as a character before "The Killing Joke" the tone of the comic and of Gotham was more , for a lack of a better word, "camp", where these type of situations wouldn't occur to Batman's sidekick. As the tone evolved to a more serious and dark some character portrayals evolved while others didn't. If the Jokers action become more homicidal and violent then Batman's actions should change as well, and he shouldn't have child sidekicks like Barbara and Tim Drake who are put in the crosshairs.

I know people will say its just shows how fucked up Bruce is that hes willing to have children sidekicks and put them at risk, but thats just a lazy excuse.

I'm not against Barbara becoming paralyzed in the line of fire, to me the torture and sexual assault doesn't fit in.

it's implied for the most part, and Moore is a known degenerate anyways who's capable of writing in rape in a story about elderly eunuchs.

The tone was fine, having problems with one type of violence but not another is just inconsistent if you're going to praise the story anyways.

>Bruce I forgive you for not saving me. But why, why on God's green Earth is he still alive?!?!
>*laughter*
>Gotta give the boy points! He came all the way back from the dead to make this shindig happen!

>SHINDIG
>>
>>71012117
>But its just shock value.
yeah, that was the point, to shock Gordon into becoming deranged.

Also I don't see how it's torture porn when nothing about it was explicit, I'm not going to defend it saying it was "necessary" or some other bullshit, all I'm saying is that it's consistent with the rest of the story and there's no particular reason why it would stand out unless people are looking for a reason to be mad at it.
>>
>>71012008
The potential Joker origin was interesting, the whole batgirl torture didn't really add on to the character of the Joker that hadn't already been done in "A Death in the Family". It just took a decent character and shitted on her.. Even though she became a better character later it still could of been done with out going to the extremes in story.
>>
>>71012294
but the story is not Joker's origin, it's Gordon overcoming the Joker's musical number and Batman failing it. Barbara being the catalyst is only that, it could have been another tragedy with a different character as long as it justified both outcomes.
>>
>>71009258
You need to have excessive use of the word "fuck", rape, boobies, or impalement to get an R rating. Impalement is the likely why Matrix Reloaded is rated R and why they chose to shoot Zoom in the head instead of pic related.
>>
>>71012250
The sexual abuse wasn't specific, but the physical abuse was.

Its just bad story telling though. I know most incarnations of Batman he is portrayed as having a "no kill" rule, which is done to keep him from becoming the things he fights against, thats fine. But theres no reason why he should try to prevent Jim Gordan from killing Joker, or have Gordan morally against killing Joker. Gordan isn't a vigilante, he is a cop who is legally allowed to kill people in certain situations. It can be argued he is legally justified to kill Joker as a cop to prevent him from harming others, and he is definitely legally justified as a citizen to kill the Joker to protect his himself and his family from bodily harm.

Thats my issue where the antagonists are allowed to evolve and do different things but the protagonists still act like boy scouts even when they are put in situations that it is impossible to act in that way.
>>
>>71012807
>But theres no reason why he should try to prevent Jim Gordan from killing Joker

sure thing m8.

It's what Moore always wanted to write into the story but the brass didn't allow him to. With the way the panels were set up it can be ambiguous enough to not think that he did it, but he did it, otherwise the story doesn't really have a full catharsis
>>
>>71013710
I'm so sick of explaining this to people who don't read the Flash.

Eobard Thawne uses a kind of negative speedforce and can use it to steal the Flash's speed by interfering with his speedforce. The trade off is that he can't do this and use his negative speedforce for superspeed purposes. Bat dad was able to skewer him because he was diverting his negative speedforce into stopping Flash from moving.
>>
>>71013801
>but he did it, otherwise the story doesn't really have a full catharsis

Because joker didn't show up back in other Batman comics later on and Barbara Gordon wasn't paralyzed.

In this moment, the joke makes batman realise the joker is impossible to rehabilitate. Batman is the prisoner extending the light bridge. It would never work, and the other prisoner (the joker) refuses his help, but for different, equally insane reasons

The final shot acts as an analogy for the joke itself. The light reflection on the puddle is the light bridge, with the police cars comming. The light bridge is the ineffectiveness of the justice system

The final shot is also the first shot. the story is a full circle, but im not sure what the significance of that is. Maybe it reflects batman and the joker doing this dance over and over

An animated film would, in all likehood, look over this, and several other moments that make the comic into the one of the greats. Withouit these moments, its essentiall just grimdark edgy shit, which the film, im afraid, could be

It's not just that, but The Flash and Eobard are still just human with human senses. Unless they're intentionally going fast they can still be snuck up on.

>Batman's story is about catharsis.
Yeah, okay. I think we're reading different comics.

Yeah he can still be snuck up on, but there have been instances where speedsters have dodged bullets and shit as it touched their skin because they felt it. He didn't because he wasn't able to at that moment.

it hasn't even been announced for that long

Sure, but they were also in combat situations, where they were aware of danger.

I like them both, but c'mon man.

It is rumored to have a ridiculous amount of SJW shit in it, so I'll pass.

Expect the R rating to come from using the F word every sentence like SJWs love to do, and some shitty rape scene.

>SJW shit

How would they do that when it's nowhere at all in the source material?

Who exactly are the WB executives that are in charge of DC properties? And when can they be replaced by people who understand why Disney is raking in the cash with their Marvel products and translate that into success with DC properties?
>>
>>71016544
Because it's 2016.

> tfw even their DTV animated movies are circling the drain

If Marvel Studios can fart out talking raccoon and Ant-Man movies then I am convinced that the problem with DC is not in the characters but in the higher-ups and it might be a tall pyramid of incompetence.
>>
>>71016635
DC thinks it can shoehorn their characters into shit without building anything. Same shit Sony and Fox did. Fox universe isn't as bad as Warner because they already made a bunch of X-men movies but their continuity is completely fucked up and they couldn't add the Fantastic 4.

they're inserting some stuff with batgirl that isn't in the book
