Is there any chance of this not being an unwatchable disaster now?
>>70991661
I'm calling a 42% on RT.
39 on Metacritic.
>>70991661
>Liam Hemsworth
>giant flop
Who could've seen this coming?
>>70991661
>will not be screened for critics prior to opening day
what does that mean?
>>70991754
>I see a box office on fire...
i feel like I have seen all the good bits already
>written and directed by roland emmerich
I'd say there's a great chance.
We're going to fight bloodbourne boss in this
>tfw all bashers of holy Snyder Kino are lining up in anticipation of this trash
>>70991661
Really makes you think.
>>70991771
They're only holding a screening for critics at 11 A.M. on opening day. Most movie studios screen new movies for critics well in advance of the release of a movie to get some good reviews and build hype for release. Not doing this is a telltale sign that the studio thinks the movie is bad, and that they think they'll have a better opening if there are no reviews.
>>70991771
It means that the studio are worried that bad reviews will affect sales. Its so worried in fact that it doesn't want the film reviewed before at least some folk see it. This doesn't necesarriky mean the film IS BAD and they are trying to HIDE that fact, but it certainly implies that.
honestly the first one isn't even very good, it's just a fun popcorn flick
As a non-US critic I'm seeing this tomorrow. Will post about it.
>>70992014
nobody said it was good
>>70992014
>fun
>>70992035
So is this being screened for critics or not?
>>70991754
How did they get away with replacing Will Smith with a white dude anyways?
>>70991869
independence day #1 was schlock but good / entertaining
mebbe its missing a 'will smith' ... (checks)
it does have jeff goldblum though
but will smith punching the alien made the movie
>>70992063
do the aliens win this time?

good... fuck those RT cum guzzlers
Do people actually care about this movie?
Independence Day 1 was, at best, enjoyable cheese, it wasn't a good movie
absolutely no chance this uninspired sequel will be anything but dogshit
>>70992645
lol that is more or less what i was coming in to say
>>70992645
First movie leaned pretty hard on Will Smith's comedic presence, I don't think it would've worked at all without him.
>wanted to show this movie to my grandpa when I was 10
>he can't talk since he had a stroke
>dad tells me grandpa doesn't like shitty cheese blockbusters, gives him 4 new DVDs to choose from
>grandpa picks Master and Commander
Based patrician grandpa

I have pretty high hopes based on the website they developed for the movie, it's GOAT tbqhfams.

Critics BTFO. Now time for every major studio to follow their example.
>>70993111
Emmerich knows how to promote his movies. The first Independence Day and Godzilla had brilliant marketing campaigns.
The first one was basically everything that's wrong with the American film industry - forced black cast, a very minor thought put behind everything, cheap and shitty scenes a child could've come up with supposed to make you "feel" something, bad humor, and the worst of all, shitty American cringe-tier patriotism in a movie that shouldn't have any
Literally fuck the people who decided to fund a sequel to this shit.
>>70994042
First one honestly holds up pretty well, I watched it this weekend since its on HBO Go right now. There are some pretty cringey moments but for the most part it's not bad for a summer blockbuster type flick. There are a few setpieces like the operating room bit with the alien that are actually pretty well done.
It's not great or anything but compared to some of Emmerich's other turds it's pretty good.
>>70991771
It means Will Smith has a cameo
Saw the trailer and can't imagine it being good.
Did you guys see the US Army shill commercials for the movie?
>wake up much too early
>watching videos on my phone while groggy
>typical army ad
>Earth Space Defense suddenly catches my attention
>have momentary panic that I missed first contact
>keep telling myself this has got to be bullshit
>believe just a little bit that our species is in danger
>google it and feel like an idiot
They need an asterisk or some mention of the movie in that ad.
>>70994575
Yeah some scenes suck big time.
BOOMER dog scene comes to mind. But overall it's fun watching all that shit blow up and the alien spaceships are cool. It's spectral with a limited narrative, and sometimes that is enjoyable. Independence Day is one of those movies.
Anybody who hates it is a fucking asshole.
>Roland Emmerich
What do you think.
>>70992588
This looks like fun on a bun. Who isn't going to go see this?
The premise of the movie is really neat. I like that humanity rapidly advanced due to adapting the alien technology.
>>70992063
>frog
>>70992588
>it's touched down over the Atlantic!
>which part?
>all of it!
>>70993771
This is pretty common practice for studios to protect shitty films. It's not some kind of rebellious middle finger to critics everywhere.
If anything they'll be sharpening their knives even more for when they eventually do see it.
>>70991661
Critics have proven themselves to be utter retards with a lot of movies released recently. I hope this becomes a recurring trend where they just deny reviewers acces to the movie and they have to watch it like everyone else.
Seriously stop all this mongloid fuckery that is "professional" internet bloggers
Is Independence Day really the kind of film where a critic's opinion matters? I doubt the first one got good reviews. It's a fun popcorn film, nothing more.
>the one scientist guy who was straggled 20 years ago by an alien is alive today
>>70992285
They didn't. They replaced Will Smith with his wife's son. Better no Will than Will and Jaden.
>>70991839
Emmerich poops better movies than Snyder.
>>70991661
Critics only enjoy greenscreen chink approved shlock when the characters are wearing capes and making quips, so this never had a chance of being reviewed well
>>70997217
>Critics only enjoy greenscreen chink approved shlock when Disney pays them off, so this never had a chance of being reviewed well

>>70994042
What forced black cast? You mean 2 characters out of like 20?
>>70996931
Wait what? Which scientist? The nerd with the glasses and long hair that got fucked up in the operating room?
>>70997317
>>70996931
Yes, Brent Spiner is alive in the sequel.
http://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/independence-day-resurgence/252757/independence-day-resurgence-brent-spiner-explains-his-return
>As Spiner explains of Okun’s apparent survival:
>“People assumed Dr. Okun died in the first movie. I don’t know why they make that assumption. My eyes were open, this guy, the dreaded Adam Baldwin, picks me up, he puts his fingers on my neck. I wanted to look at him and go ‘you’re not a doctor! You’re a soldier!’”
>While eagle-eyed viewers might be able discern a sliver of life in the body of Dr. Okun after his alien captor was killed, most people who saw the scene assumed that he was just another casualty. However, this apparent majority was actually in the right… at least as far as what was originally intended. As Spiner further explains:
>“This is a little secret. He had a line that he said, ‘he’s dead’ and they cut the line.” Adding, “But, he didn’t say anything. So, cut two, here I am.”
>>70997401
tl;dr: Brent Spiner can't play Data anymore and really, really needs work
>>70991894
I mean, wether or not it's a bad movie, it's a legit concern, just look at how critics made Warcraft bomb in US because of their social agenda
