Genuoilnely asking.
>>70961542
He was a misanthropist.
I'm not sure what more you needed. He clearly explains his position and mentality towards others.

>reminder that this nobody faggot quit the movie because he couldn't handle Daniel Day Lewis intense acting
what an embarrassment of a human being.
>>70962179
People say all the time that the secret point of it was to make a movie that would be seen as a masterpiece without actually having a point and that that was the deliberate intention of PTA.
It's kind of interesting just as a concept, but it's not true and the movie is actually good.
I don't know really, it just makes me think about how there are some people who are truly never cut out to be part of society, outsiders, addictions, isolation and other things. I think it's really good.
>>70962179
The secular but ultimately impossible effort made by the Apollonian to conquer and assimilate the Dionysian
>>70962266

Also, if you don't "get it," I suggest watching it again -- it's plain as day.
>>70962367

>>70962325
he was supposed to be the Paul Dano character, I don't know if he was going to be both twins or what but he quit the movie because he couldn't handle being opposite Daniel Day Lewis, Ahahahahahaha.
>>70962498
For real? What kind of actor admits that hoping to have a career afterwards?
if every actor followed DDL the movie world would be a kino place.
are there any other current actors who come close? he's just so fascinating to watch, especially knowing he gets right into character.

Joaquin Phoenix is pretty stunning too.
He is a capitalist. His goal is to just make a lot of money. The evil he sees inside himself he projects onto other people. He doesn't trust other people.
Furthermore, he just wants money, so he assumes everyone is out to get him. This comes up later when his son tries to reconnect with him, but Daniel shuts him out.
All he really wanted was love, but he didn't realize it.

>mfw PTA is working on a new script
>mfw DDL and Phoenix in the same film

To be fair Daniel Day Lewis is fucking insane. He's a ***method*** actor which means he basically just acts like a crazy person for the entirety of filming.
>had to be lifted around the set as he would never leave his wheelchair and insisted his meals be spoon-fed to him during My Left Foot
>would only eat food he killed during Last of the Mohicans. He, of course, learned how to track, hunt and skin the animals.
>spent nights locked in solitary confinement in the abandoned prison where they filmed In the Name of the Father
>didn’t bathe for the entirety of shooting The Crucible to get the feeling of what it was to live by 17th century standards
>actually threw bowling balls at Paul Dano during There Will Be Blood
>>70962367
So you're saying it HAD a point?
>>70963370
Classic Paul Dano.
>>70962498
I thought PTA thought Dano was so good he fired the other guy and told Dano to fill the role. Might be wrong though.
Either way while Dano was great him playing a twin made it seem weird. He only had a couple of days to prepare so he didn't even have a different haircut. So when you see the brother it just looks like the same guy.
>>70963568
the other guy didn't turn up and couldn't do the film and they liked Dano so much they asked if he would play the role he accepted and they just changed the script so they were twins instead
>>70962735
Yep, JP is the only living actor on the same level
>>70962498
He was the reason Dano played a twin
