And then he was Captain Jack Sparrow, and he was pulling in millions just for showing up to work.
And that was the peak, and since then he's been rolling downhill, faster and faster as he goes. The critics tear his movies to shreds. The fans have all turned on him viciously. The hot young pussy he married turned out to be a scheming gold-digger. The Johnny Depp you see today is just battered and shell-shocked by that fall. It's still happening, he hasn't hit the bottom yet.

Actually, he got a lot of hype in the mid-eighties. That's why he didn't appear in BTTF 2 – because he demanded a ridiculous pay. He bet on the wrong horse there though and was quickly forgotten – that's until people started to think of him as "that based weird guy"
