>In the late 1960s, Sobel shot himself in the head with a small-caliber pistol.[9] The bullet entered his left temple, passed behind his eyes, and exited out the other side of his head. This severed his optic nerves and left him blind.[9] He was later moved to a VA assisted living facility in Waukegan, Illinois. Sobel resided there for his last seventeen years until his death due to malnutrition on September 30, 1987.[9] No services were held for Sobel after his death.[9]

>He was bad even in suicide
It's a good thing they didn't send him to combat. He can't shoot for shit.
>officers
>can't even shoot themselves in the head right
why didn't they mention this during Points?
I've always wonder why people go for the temples when shooting themselves. Surely these people have heard of lobotomies and know that frontal cortex damage is VERY survivable.

Jesus Christ. Add to that "he was later depicted as a petty, ineffective failure in a hit HBO series about real soldiers."

Aaand without his training they would have all been killed. Winters is a glory hound and even he admitted that.

Sobel made them band together against him. This was not an achievement. Any 3rd grader douchebag can do it. A real leader and trainer would use such tactics sparingly and purposely inculcate teamwork and camararedie through positive reinforcement more. Sobel was a classic example of being promoted to your incompetence level. He should have been just a drill instructor which suited his personality.
