Why does Star Trek ruin all of it's longrunning villains? They either get turned into comic relief or made stupidly generic.

>The Romulans were introduced as a mysterious and powerful race, but they got turned into off-brand Vulcans with stupid jackets.
>The Klingons were introduced as "like us but different". They were focus on military thinking over science, but they were strategists and hatched spy schemes pretty well. They got turned into a race of retards who can't go five minutes without screaming about honor.
>The Ferengi get introduced as hardnosed capitalists who will blow your ship out of the sky if you start fucking with them. They got turned into comic relief space jews.
>The borg were introduced as a true hivemind and a race that was fundamentally different from us by having no hierarchy or personal vendettas. Borg queen was introduced and borg were turned into zombie minions.

The only antagonists who remain cool are one-offs like the Sheliak, and only because the writers didn't get a chance to mangle them with more screentime.

The Romulans were said to be Vulcan offshoots from the episode they were introduced, and were also set up to have terrible fashion sense right off the bat.

Gul Dukat and "Q" were pretty much the only good and consistent "villains" and Q was basically true neutral while Dukat did nothing wrong, so he's not really a villain. What about Kai Winn?
>>
>>70929777
I chuckled. Nice trips.
>>
>>70929946

Dukat did nothing wrong aside from perhaps being too leinient with the Bajoran terrorists, and except when he accidentally got himself stuck on the station while the boobytraps were going off and when he tried to screw over a rival politician by separating that politician from his son, but then he accidentally left a trail of clues and Garak caught him, and maybe that one time he accidentally got that chick pregnant, and when his whole life was ruined when he forgot that the prophets were omnipotent beings inside the wormhole, and one time he tried to convince Sisko that he was perfectly sane, and went about this task by talking to imaginary tulpas, also the whole becoming Space Satan thing might have been ill advised.

That all happened in the same segment. The Romulans were never good.
>The Klingons
>They got turned into a race of retards who can't go five minutes without screaming about honor.
You got that right, it was awful.
>The Ferengi get introduced as hardnosed capitalists who will blow your ship out of the sky if you start fucking with them. They got turned into comic relief space jews.
Their character design fell flat. I think Roddenberry wanted them small and ratlike to make them seem petty, but they were taken as comic relief space jews from the moment they made it on screen.
>The borg were introduced as a true hivemind and a race that was fundamentally different from us by having no hierarchy or personal vendettas. Borg queen was introduced and borg were turned into zombie minions.
This was big let down, but that's just the dynamics of doing a movie. First Contact with an impersonal voiceless enemy would have been pretty shitty. It was Voyager that really took that to an extreme anyway.

To be fair, the Ferengi came off rediculous and comical from the start. They were downright cartoony in when they first appeared.

DS9 really redeemed them as a species, even if they still come off, by and large, as comic relief space jews.

Mulgrew is such an ugly bitch. And worse yet, she was a shitty mother who severely neglected her own children for years just so she could star in a very shitty sci-fi series...

Selfish bitch runs her children's natural father out of the house and then leaves the kids with surrogate "caregivers" in order to pursue wealth and fame for her own selfish vanity.

There's a reason her kids still refuse to watch a single one of her Voyager episodes.

"There were days when my kids were suffering, and, you know, you can't walk off a set... so the preoccupation with your children's pain is enormous, and add to that eight pages of "techno-babble" that you've got to execute by 2:00 in the morning and you can't get to the phone because they don't let you... It's... it's... it's very hard... You know, in retrospect, you know, I mean, you could do it that way... Say, oh, I should have done this as opposed... I mean, who knows? I mean, so, so... so I hold fast to what I've chosen to do and I'm not apologizing for that, but the attendant toll taken on family and all of that, it's... That's it."

Kai Winn is an underappreciated ambigu-villain (if I may coin a phrase).
Clearly she is an antagonist who later becomes a villain, but even then, she feels most of her intentions are coming not from egotism but from some misguided ideal of love and reverence that she never attained.
Wonderfully exceptional actress who I'm glad was a part of the DS9 series.
She actually could pull off the kind veiled threats good enough to where you felt some sort of foreboding thereafter.

Klingons in NG always seemed weird to me, its the only Star Trek I saw, but they are supposed to be super advanced and have an empire that spans many planets, but their society and everything about them seems so archaic. Not that war is barbaric or something, but the way they approach everything, like they'd rather fight with a retarded giant batarang than fire lasers. Also their architecture and interiors look pretty primitive if I remember.

It's almost like some advanced race crash landed a fleet of starships and the klingons ended up with them.

The honor bit can get tiresome, but every TNG Klingon ep is a high point for each season. Worf is fucking awesome too and I'd rather have Klingons the way they are instead of not-Chinamen.

You're an idiot if you think the Ferengi were in any way threatening when they were being introduced and pushed hard. Space jews is a better fit for them.

The Cardassians got weird.

The villains weren't one single race in DS9. The Dominion was a bunch of races, just like the Federation. There were good Cardassians and bad Cardassians, and good Cardassians that turned bad, and Cardassians that thought they were doing good, but they clashed idealistically with the bad guys, so TECHNICALLY they turned bad but it would be easy to see how they might be morally justified

Seems there's some truth to the Mulgrew spammer.
>Mulgrew married Robert Egan in 1982. They had two sons, Alec and Ian.
>As the boys grew older, it was made clear to Mulgrew by other mothers at her sons’ school that “it would behoove me to spend a little less time on my career and a little more time helping to shape the futures of our beloved children,” Mulgrew writes.
>She taught poetry to both of her sons’ classes. Her strategy: Having the children act out the work of Emily Dickinson. The school, however, didn’t appreciate students leaping around the classrooms and onto teachers’ desks, shouting lines of verse.
>At the end of the semester, Mulgrew writes, the mothers decided her absence might be better after all:
>“The principal thanked me for my efforts and, leaning in to take my hand, said, “I just can’t wait to see what you’ll do next — on television.”

This interview also says she got pregnant while being single on some sitcom and gave her child up for adoption in 1977.

The Beta Wiki says Grand Nagus Zek told all the Daemons to act like weirdos as part of a head game with the Federation, and tried to spread as many vicious rumors as possible.

That way, when people actually meet Ferengi, they say "Eh, these ones aren't so bad."

Quark's attitude with Harry Kim almost confirms this, and kinda has a point, what kind of outdated textbooks is Starfleet using?

You want new things? Star Trek 2009, Into Darkness and Beyond are new. The Force Awakens is new.

Go back to your Star Wars threads, new-lover.

I fapped to early Janeway!

Of course I was 12 years old and fapped to basically everything. Seven of Nine wouldn't be around for four years.

Move Along Home is a fine episode. The reason you don't like it is because the game reminds you too much of life (having to obediently mimic silly actions to get by, having to drink and laugh in order to go along). It's disturbing because it reveals so much of life as a childish waste of time.

You don't get how deep this episode is because you don't want to. That's your pleb filter.

The Dominion I enjoyed, if a little one note.
God complex changelings who excel at control and paranoia
Scheming and manipulative Vorta clones, who usually had some personality, usually cautious.
Jem'Hadar were a little underwhelming for shock troops, but still serviceable.

They were competent as a threat, the only reason they lost the war was because the Prophets intervened.

Those greek genes at work, frontloads the good looks into the early years of life.
>>
>>70955579
I think the Jem'Hadar were gimped for censorship reasons, really. It's hard to have intimidating shock troops when blood and cruelty are verboten; Klingons versus anyone should be a bloody mess but the Jem'Hadar playing the Fremen to the Klingons' Sardarukar should be fucking GoT-tier.

Quark saw an opportunity to jew kim when he spoke about the Ferengi in general. It was literally an act.

The moment Paris dropped the bomb that the crystals could be bought for cheap elsewhere, Quark fucked off.

Did the Romulans ever find it weird that on earth 2000 years ago there was a civilization founded by a guy literally named Romulus?
>>
>>70957237
Romulans refer to themselves as Rihannas. This is canon. Only Earth people refer to them as Romulans.
>>
>>70957296
How does that work with the UT?

What bugs me is that they established there was a huge network of subspace relay stations spanning half the god damned galaxy and THEY FUCKED IT UP. Voyager messed up one station and blew out the entire network.

First of all, how does a civilization so advanced not build the network to compensate for node failure and second, WHAT THE FUCK?

Sweet JESUS I was unprepared for when she dropped that robe. I was expecting something good but that was easily the best back shot I've ever seen anywhere.

Pic not related

I always wondered why Kira or Dukat never spoke up when the topic of what Breen look like came up.

I like to imagine that they look tame and that the suits are all an elaborate deception so they can mingle among other races unnoticed.

I can never decide if the mask or Janeway's reaction is funnier.

Is it even possible to argue that there's a better episode of Voyager than Counterpoint?

Star Trek is a franchise in which good overcomes evil, in case you haven't noticed. just deal with it. that's one of the essential traits of Star Trek.
