Does Neil Gaiman still donate six figures a year to Scientology front groups while denying he's in?
>>
Bryan Fuller's work on Hannibal was solid, but I'm concerned about some of the cast. Some good, like McShane, but the lead is best known for that "The 100" shit.

is this the guy from GoT ? didn't know he was in other shows

It's going to suck, because I love the book and my standards are way too high. The book is so fucking good, I just, fuck. I'm sad because I'm gonna watch the show, and get all excited and try to show other people it, then they'll want to get away from me, cause there's gonna be a dude eaten by a vagina and a dead whore in love with this criminal who drives this god around... its just gonna be weird on screen.

They need to find a way to capture the nonchalance of the book, the subtly and with that made it all flow rationally. It's a kind of romantic pull of irony that makes it work. Like how, trying not to cry is much more emotional than crying, similarly, without explaining it verbally, they need to show, not tell, that the characters just have the boldness to adapt to this crazy shit and to drink their mead and get on with life. Shadow wants the money, so fuck it. If they can pull that initial weirdness off, the rest can follow.

Come on now. This is by no means high-brow literature, but I think they're pretty good children's books with interesting concepts that allow for good film/tv adaptations. Shitting on Neil Gaiman because he's not Tommy Pynchon just comes off as pretentious, in the actual meaning of the word. It's okay to dislike him, but it's just as okay to enjoy his books for what they are. Nobody is pretending they're anything more.
I don't even like Neil Gaiman that much

>high standards
I'm sure anon just meant high standards regarding the faithfulness of any adaptation to its source.
>>
>>70887462
It's got a good enough cast to make me interested.
>>
>>70887778
>Hannibal
>Dead Like Me
>Pushing up Daisies
I keep watching Fuller's shows after they are cancelled and I want at least one of them to not die before I get to see it.

(from Starz's press release, June 2015) Starz has given a greenlight to FremantleMedia North America's (FMNA) adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed contemporary fantasy novel American Gods. Bryan Fuller ("Hannibal," "Pushing Daisies," "Heroes") and Michael Green ("The River," "Kings," "Heroes"), will pen and showrun the series. Gaiman will also executive produce the series. FremantleMedia North America will produce. Start of production is dependent on casting the lead role of "Shadow Moon." The 2001 novel has been translated into over 30 languages and earned numerous accolades including Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel. The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of biblical and mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society's modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.

PRINCIPAL CAST INFORMATION:
· Bruce Langley as Technical Boy
· Chris Obi as Anubis
· Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya
· Crispin Glover as Mr. World
· Emily Browning as Laura Moon
· Gillian Anderson as Media

· Jonathan Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith
· Mousa Kraish as The Jinn

>>
>Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney
I thought he was kinda fat and ugly/unkempt? drank lots of beer? like a classic rocker or punker or something? maybe i remember incorrectly.
>>
Neil Gaiman is Clive Barker for plebs.
>>
>>70889813
>Mad Sweeney
Mad Sweeney is described as having a short, red beard and mustache with "pale blue eyes." He is lanky and taller than Shadow, who has to look up at him.

>Various characters question Shadow's race, the ambiguity of which contributes to a later revelation. Gaiman has confirmed that Shadow's mother is black. Shadow is thirty-two years old at the start of the novel. He was "big enough and looked don't-fuck-with-me enough" to keep out of trouble while in prison. Shadow's eyes are described as gray in color.

I've never read American Gods but the premise sounds similar to Wolfe's Latro in the Mist + Soldier of Sidon books, of which I've read.

They "Hollywooded" the ending ALOT! Similar to Stardust...because Neil Gaimen is a sellout for cash.

Sauce: extra with a script. They even changed the scene where Shadow found out that his wife died giving a blowie.

...expect much rage!
>>
>>70891213

If Wonder woman can have brown eyes instead of blue not a big deal
>>
>>70891343

What the fuck did you just say?
>>
>>70891405
Expect the same treatment in American Gods as Stardust got...it's also for American TV, so yeah
>>
>>70891495

After watching neverwhere and stardust, I don't have high expectations for further adaptations of Gaiman's works.

>One of the most amazing sequences for me when I was reading it was the Goddess Bilquis eating a man with her vagina! I think it’s beautifully written in the novel. What I love about how Neil’s laid out that sequence is that you’re in the gentleman caller’s point of view for his climax and the reeling of that. I mean, what is it like to cinematically deliver an orgasm to an audience that… more than likely, is not experiencing an orgasm at that moment, although you never know! Being in his point of view in the novel, he comes out of his orgasmic revelry and then he realises that he’s kind of hanging upside down, chest-deep from her. We plan to deliver that moment as it is written, because I believe that we can, and that’s very exciting for us because we were breaking that story and thinking, we are just going to lift that right out of the book and drop it right into the show. That came up in the Starz meeting, they were like, ‘how are you going to do that moment?’ and we said, ‘we’re going to do it exactly as written’.
