I never got the vibe that ghosts could kill you. They were just angry spirits trapped inside of a place.
Aliens however... I use to have terrible nightmares about aliens all the time. Still one of my worst fears because the abduction stories sound so... human in an absolutely inhuman way. Let me explain: they usually involve ripping unsuspecting people from their beds, stun them, and then perform grotesque experiments against the will of the person. My guess is that we're just too far away, time-wise.
The universe has been around for a loooong, loong time, plenty of time for millions of civilizations to rise and fall and rise again, but we're so far away from each other that we're just now seeing the light and shit from things that happened millions of years ago.

I still have hopes for mars. I know surface civilizations woild leave easily visible traces like structures, but I am hoping for at least partially buried buildings. If an alien probe were to land somewhere in the sahara, it would take years to come across anything that hints at civilization
