In the movie, Iron Man could've killed him a dozen times. He didn't, and Rogers beat him with a sucker punch when Tony was distracted by Bucky.
In the CW comics, the first time they fought (pic related), Tony wrecked Cap, and he had to be saved by Hercules. In the final battle, they showed Captain owning Tony, but it doesn't make any sense. Iron Man should own Captain America. Cap's only chance is close-range combat, where he has better reflexes and skills. And even there, IronMan can overpower him if he lets the suit take control.
I mean, hell, in the Civil War arc he even duplicated the spider-sense afeter studying Peter Parker with his Iron-Spider suit.
