Sold most of my collection to get a camera. Ended up getting a decent amount from criterion and other box sets. This is all that's left.

We seem to both be horror/troma autismos, so can you explain why the burning is held in such high regard? it gets called the best friday the 13th clone, best 80s slasher period... I don't get it at all. I wouldn't even call it good, just a run of the mill friday the 13th clone to me.

Why are people buying movies and tv shows on physical media when it will just become obsolete in a few years? I don't get it, are they dumb?

But there will be better-quality versions of your movies and tv shows released in the future and why would you watch the inferior versions when something better is available?

That's my reasoning for not buying movies and tv, though I spend a lot of money on books. It doesn't make sense for me.

Personally I've been in situations without internet or a computer but had a tv and dvd player either through a gaming system or dvd player and it helped having those dvds for the period of time I didn't have internet or a comp. Also when the blockbusters and hollywood videos went out of business I got a bunch of movies pretty cheap.

Personally there are still some movies that I'd rather watch on VHS. Its just a feel I guess. Certain movies just look right in certain formats. Also, with VHS being obsolete any thrift store in America will have tons and tons of them for less than a dollar a piece...and that's a perfect way for me (poorfag) to discover random old films I would otherwise have to buy on Blu Ray for $30 a pop.

I have torrents, I have DVD, Blu Ray and even Laserdisc collections. The only major format I haven't got into is D-VHS, Beta and HD DVD (for obvious reasons...)

Certain movies you want that fuzzy feeling. Certain movies you want clarity. And sometimes it doesn't even matter. I just like tangible media.
>>
>>70875548
Are you on Cinemageddon? Tonne of VHS rips there.

I'm not but maybe I should be.

I'm not one of those fanatics who buys $50 VHS tapes. And the most I've ever spent on an LD was $30 for Phenomena.

I spent $60 for a VHS so I could upload it to private trackers. It's on Cinemageddon and other sites now. Why don't you have an account?

In about 10 years once physical copies of movies are a thing of the past and everything is done online or OnDemand, and Hollywood no longer lets you buy your own copy of the movie and instead only lets you rent them for a 24 hour period for $14.99, people are really going to regret being too lazy to keep physical media around

those are some good choices but damn you must be loaded those arrow releases aren't cheap.
>>70873668
There are some great movies in there and also a lot of really terrible ones you should be ashamed of owning. I mean yeah glad to see some love for Cheap Thrills, American Werewolf in London, the Mutilator, Gone with the Pope, Sleepaway Camp etc, but really amazing spiderman 2? Detention? Man of Steel?
>>
>>70876844
Most Arrow releases are 5 for £30 at my local HMV.
>>
>>70875909
How do you get one? I probably wouldn't use it anyways, though, I live by a videostore that has like 90,000 movies or something crazy like that, and I like to support local bussiness.
>>
>>70876922
that's crazy they're like $30 a piece here in the US, $20 on a nice sale.

>>
>>70876844
I kept some because I love them, others like Amazing Spiderman MoS amongst others were worth a dollar so I didn't sell them.>>70877132
Carsick is amazing. John Waters signed them for free after a show in Boston

Also, Man of Steel actually means a lot to me. After failing to kill myself the first movie I watched after leaving the hospital was Watchmen. Saw Man of Steel with fellow patients who got out and we all kind of dug it. One of those sentimental moments that blind me from how bad the movie may be.

Why buy physical books when you can buy a Amazon fire tablet?
>>
Everytime I buy a movie I just wind up selling it a month later unopened and downloading a rip to watch. I always think I want to start a collection of physical copies but realize that it's way easier to just download shit I want for free and would rather spend the money on other shit.

The feeling of holding an actual book in your hand feels way better than holding a tablet, though I do own both. I have a large library of antique books, then I get newer books on my tablet and if I enjoy them (some newer purchases are The Disaster Artist and John Waters' Crackpot and Role Models) I buy the actual book in the earliest edition I can find. I figure it will be a nice thing to pass down after I die so my ancestors can sell them for drug money.
>>
>>70877932
Not OP but Evil Within is only 15 bucks most places. Most stores don't buy back steelbook blu-rays. I tried to sell Planet of the Apes and Gaurdians of the Galaxy but there is no UPC on back so shops don't have them in computer.
>>
>>70878056
No shit? Wow, guess it pays to be super selective. Collection is in storage. Sorry familia, it's just a ton of polarizing films.
>>
What are your rarest items, fellow collectorfags?

Mine are a silent 8mm film copy of Browning's Dracula (Castle films 1963-77), and an original limited edition VHS tape of Jorg Buttgereit's Der Todesking (numbered 416 of 500, Headpress 1998), both in mint condition.
They are not really that rare or expensive (yet), but they are the best I got.

My rarest film related thing is an original one sheet from my favorite film, The Thing From Another World, exactly like this one.
