For willingly presenting me with his sweet, sweet boypussy and comforting me in my old age, I award one thousand points to Draco Malfoy.

But because he is a filthy Slytherin I think we can all agree Gryffindor deserves those points more.

>let's put their common room in a fucking dungeon

And then they are surprised the Slytherins grow up to be dicks. I get that Slytherin was about ambition and success at all costs, but they were simply viewed as just evil in the books.

HOWEVER...
you, dragon malfoy, were in one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

>>
>>70869643
iirc the original plan was to have Ron in Gryffindor, Hermoine in Ravenclaw and Harry in Slytherin. With Neville as a fourth member in Hufflepuff.
But Rowling was unable to make it work so she just put all of them in Gryffindor

Keeping the Slytherin house didn't make sense from the start, considering what kind of a person it's founder was and what kind of ideals he promoted, he literally left the school saying he left a monster inside it who will kill mudboolds one day

funnily enough, doesn't the actor portraying Draco Malfoy have more success in Hollywood than Harry's and Ron's actors?

It's like choosing the right house, ambition and desire for success over bravery and honour, lead to better future employment prospects
>>
>>70868001
They were more just upper class kids in a frat. Obviously they are a comment on people at the top of the british caste system. You need the rich kids. Half the reason Harry was a prime canidate was that he was technically rich as fuck and his dad was a pure blood so he had a pure blood last name.

You realize the houses were originally started by the people they're named after right? Hogwarts was originally 4 great wizards and witches who came together to form a school. Salazar Slytherin was a magic supremacist and only took purebloods with promising talent and ambition.

Slytherin eventually left Hogwarts but the other 3 kept his house and preserved his intentions for it out of respect for him.

>>
>>70870162
No joke. Childrens literature was pretty much non existent until Victorian times and the industrial revolution. The stories that evolved all had the same pattern, the first Potter book fits it to a tee. You can google the details if you're really interested. The first book is the only one that really follows the formula.

As for why it's considered trash by real scholars, it might be because only the first book really adhered to the traditional formula, which is why it might be considered good. Even then it didn't bring anything new to the genre. Literary scholars might just dislike the fact that it is in all sense a childrens book, but the series gained a large adult following who believe they are actually reading great prose and storytelling, when they are literally holding a book meant for children in such high regard.

Not to mention that Dumbledore wanted to use Cedric's death as propaganda so everyone would believe that Voldemort was back.

The story isn't as effective if they have to mention that Cedric got killed by one of Voldy's lackeys, who is supposed to be a dead wizard hero.

Thanks, but we need to realize how bad this industry is now. For example, Harry Potter was easily one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the seriesüf only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but itüfs certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

Hufflepuff are those who are fair and just. Or something like that - they're not meant to be boring people.

Cedric and Neville are good hufflepuffs, their biggest traits are supposed to be their honest and sense of loyalty

I feel like gryffindors are more about outward actions of bravery and justice, about being proactive and "righting wrongs" no matter how obnoxious, whereas hufflepuffs are about being good people.

Pretty much. Though with traits anyone can have all, a few, or none of those. The founders just wanted to focus on a couple, but a Slytherin can be just and loyal, or a Ravenclaw can be brave and daring, etc.
