SGU is really fucking good. Why did you all lie to me? Yeah it's not as good as sg1, but what is? Yeah the first season had huge problems, but so did sg1, as well as many other great shows. I might even say it's better than Atlantis.
Science fiction is an existential metaphor that allows us to tell stories about the human condition. Isaac Asimov once said, "Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinded critics and philosophers of today, but the core of science fiction, its essence, has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all."
I love the SG threads.
I'm watching through for the first time and I'm at a point were it seems like most of the episodes now are all just story arc. I want my monster of the week episodes back. :(

>>70842616
Those Friday nights were so awesome. They only lasted about 2 years though. Then some genius thought it'd be a good idea to throw BSG on Tuesdays and the whirlpool of suck officially began at SciFi.

>>70842616
Dark Matter, which is done by Mallozzi and Mullie, is fine, I haven't seen The Expanse or Killjoys but I hear they are too. They all insist on being dark and edgy with no substance though. Hopefully this is only the first wave, and once syfy gets all the way back into sci-fi we can have lighthearted shit like SG1 and dark gritty shit with the budget and writing to actually back it up like BSG.
>>70842911
If you like Dark Matter, you'll like Killjoys. Can't speak for The Expanse though.

I liked the idea of Atlantis more than SG1, even more so because it was something new after many years of fighting pagan gods over and over in space. There was all this awesome, advanced looking tech coming from the most powerful race to ever live and the ocean city was pretty and looked like it would be a fun, comfy place to live. I thought it would be so awesome to be a scientist living there fiddling with all sorts of things, taking puddle jumper joy rides, and exploring another galaxy.
The plots never really riveted me though and I hated the Wraith. Their very existence and victory make the Ancients into incompetent morons and ruined their image for me.

>>70843016
SGA had such a strong first season. Shame 2 and 3 were so lame. Too many ren faire planets and too little character development. I used to think Mitchell was the worst SG leader, but Shepard never really evolved beyond a poor O'Neill clone.

>but Shepard never really evolved beyond a poor O'Neill clone.
This, honestly. Aside from the plots, my main problem with the show was the characters and the way they played off each other and had zero chemistry.
Shepard was unfunny and his actor seemed to lack any enthusiasm and always looked bored. Like he was trying to look cool and aloof, but just looked uninterested in everything.
Ronon was way too edgy and tryhard. Teyla was mind-numbingly boring. Weir had some good spots, but was pretty boring in general.
Compare these to O'Neil, Sam, Teal'c, Jackson, general Hammond, etc.
Compare the Wraith to the Goa'uld. Both as a race and as individual characters. Were there even any Wraith characters besides Michael?
Hell, even the Ori were more interesting than the Wraith, because they at least brought up some interesting topics, like in that episode where the Ori prior argued with Jackson.
>>70843330
is right, in that McKay was the only interesting character, but I thought at times he was unlikable to the point of being obnoxious.
>>70839500
He got some dermatological condition from having to keep it so closely shaved all the time.

>>70843522

>>70842945

They literally waited until the second to last episode to add depth to Shephard....and it was depth to an alternative universe Shepard.
I am currently rewatching all ten sg1 seasons, because I could never watch them continously in tv. Good memories, many great scenes.
One of my favourites is where the sg1 team lays a great ambush for apophis because he is on a hunt and only has few jaffa with him. But he is a god and fucks them up. Great fight. Pic related.

>>70844625
This. They're honestly not that bad. Nowhere near the level of disappointment of Battlestar or Lost.
It's sort of weird, it's kind of like easing you into the fact the show is ending. In the end, you won't feel like you want more episodes and that the show ended early. You just won't miss it, without feeling it jumped the shark.

The Expanse is alright. Very good production values and the first season was good. It's a somewhat mildly realistic sci-fi. The problem with the Expanse is that there's not enough worldbuilding and the ending of the season goes somewhere that might ruin the show entirely.
The Expanse is better but Dark Matter is more fun.
>>70844134
Really? I found Shepard to be hilarious. He wasn't Rodney levels of hilarious but he had this good mix of 'are you serious' mixed with actual seriousness.
Ronon was a good Teal'c but Teyla was just boring.

I really feel like I'm the only one who really enjoyed the later seasons. The Ori were great villains, the episodes felt like more was at stake. The team were still fighting guerilla warfare but with actual tech and ships, with the entirety of the galaxy being at stake. And they were fighting actual gods.
Sure, it sucks that they had to use Arthur medieval mythology because they essentially ran out of mythologies but the writing was the best it's been.

I liked them, but I liked them less than the prime of the showtime run. I felt the writing just got a bit sanitized after the move to sci-fi, and that applies to O'Neill's last few seasons as well. Anyone who says it's worse than at least the first two or three seasons is insane though.

This just in, Emmerich on the Stargate Reboot, specifically pertaining to SG-1:
>Elements of it will flow into the reboot, definitely. The amount of characters, for instance. It's not a two-hander like the first one with James Spader and Kurt Russell, this time it's a bigger group. Yes, there's still the James Spader character and the Kurt Russell character, but other people are equally important. James and Kurt won't come back – maybe as cameos – it'll be a younger cast.

I really like the SG-1 Season 1 finale / Season 2 opener. There's a sense of gravity to it once they get aboard, and the Goa'uld tech and culture actually feels alien and menacing, something that gets lost very soon. The relationship between Apophis and Klorel is pretty interesting. Also, Skaara, and Bra'tac. They'd have to do the premise eventually, and they pulled it off really well.
>>70861249
SG-1: There are just so many, and most of them are of the same (good) quality. 2010, Lost City, Reckoning, Threads, just to name a few.
SGA: Be All My Sins Remember'd, The Last Man, The Shrine
SGU: I'm one of the few who found little at fault with this series, so I liked all of it. Common Descent, Epilogue, and I really loved the series finale Gauntlet.

I miss the ole shitposting live threads of the last season or 2 of SG1 and SGA
>>70837983
>Stargate thread is still here somehow
Wait, how long has it been open?
>dat feel when we never got to see what would happen if a Gould tried to take over a wraith
SGU is better than all of SGA and some of the Seasons of SG1.
I feel like you guys are the ones that got SGU cancelled by boycotting because "muh lightheartedness" or "muh lantis movie"
SGU was one of the best scifi series ever made and most of you blowhards went in wanting to hate it and got what you wanted.
SGA was not that great... it tried to hard to be SG1 and the wraith were terrible 1 dimensional villains and they barely even explored Atlantis at all...
They SHOULD have spent most of the episodes discovering things about the ancients and discovering more aspects of atlantis they didnt know about to defend the wraith...
But instead they went running around on different planets talking to useless people in search of ZPMs
Hell if the writers wanted to they could have found ZPMs in Atlantis itself or nearby.
The single coolest thing they did was find that underwater geothermal energy plant.
/blog
tl;dr SGA wasn't that amazing as you guys say it was and SGU was superb but most of you didn't give it a chance.

and then converted to Origin

>>70876012
O'Neill would personally come out of retirement just talk shit about it at that point
>>70876010
SGU is pretty great man. I'm rewatching it right now. The 2 complaints i have about it, is that it is serious to the point that i get stressed out watching it, and season 2 got really convoluted with the aliens and all that.
Now, maybe it would have ruined the mood of the show if they tried to put more light hearted stuff in the show. But I still think that whole alien bullshit was stupid. Other then that, great great show. Rush did nothing wrong
>>70876012
and then use it's Origin superpowers to rebuild and remote control the Replicator armada.
>>70875756
Yeah and the SGU threads.
That feel when we never get them back. ;_;

Thought we already laid the ground rules for this.
>you may sex the trap and not be gay
>trap/femboi/MtF penis is not to penetrate your ass/mouth or else you become gay
>you may give a reach around to be respectful
>you should also buy your trap sexy/cute clothes to wear in public. It's your job to make sure your trap looks fem enough in public.
Follow these rules and you won't be gay.
>>70876155
Every once in a while there was what I would call a light hearted moment, and it was always nice to see.
>>70873268
Overwhelming force and nothing to use it on
GOAT daytime show right here.
Every season was good imo.
Daniels' goody 2 shoes bit tended to get on my nerves until he gave the Ori priests the verbal smackdown. Felt good bruh.

SGU started out as an amazing show, but eventually suffered the same fucking fate that most sci-fi shows do: they get bogged down by bullshit drama that nobody cares about and the actual sci-fi/adventure takes a backseat/side-seat to the premise of the show.
Which causes huge drops in ratings and then eventually the show is cancelled. Also, SGU for some reason really REALLY LOVED kicking the puppy.
Eli, along with Rush, were two of the best done characters in the show and the show often went out of its way to kick them when they were down or take advantage of them willy nilly.
Oh Eli, you like what's her face; wooo, she's gonna go fuck Scott. Then she's gonna whine about how life is terrible. Oh Eli, you loved the red head; yeah, fuck you, we're gonna kill her off right after you found a place with her.
Oh Eli, we don't have enough energy to jump to a system with the right type of star in order to harvest its energy so that we can make an extra galactic jump? Well too bad fucker, everyone's going into cryo; you can go die on the ship all alone as it traverses the distance between the galaxies.
Jesus. SGU deserved to be cancelled.
>SGU started out as an amazing show
Stopped right there, no it didn't. It started out as a fucking generic Sci-Fi piece of shit. Shit characters, shit gritty muh drama setting, shit lore hurr muh lucian alliance no one gives a shit about, no fucking stargate adventure and exploration anymore, no stargate typical humor.
Fuck this rotten piece of noxious shit show forever.

I knew SGU was the worst Stargate when I heard some blonde bimbos buzzing about it at college.
>be seeing the sights at luxor
>convoy of buses full of russian tourists arrive
>two hot ukranian nerd grills in front of me in line
>both wearing skimpy singlet tops
>both have giant back tattoos dedicated to stargate
>one has an actual stargate the size of a dinner plate
good times
>>70844285
I'm not sure about space opera or epic. The book series is ok but contrived.
>>70877631
>judges SGU by SG1 standards
comes up short because it tries to be its own show
despite being galactica tier quality is hated because its not the same feel as SG1 and SGA
cancelled because fans are butthurt and because "Syfy" moved it from friday to monday.
>>70877846
you are the focal point of all my rage
>>70877846
I'd place SGU as a show just under Pat Sajak's talk show attempt. That show at least made an attempt.
>>70878362
My god, how will I survive?
>>70844811
Farscape seasons 1-4>Stargate Seasons 2-7>Stargate Atlantis all seasons>Stargate Season 1>Voyager>anything involving the Ori

You forgot to add Enterprise after Voyager or under Ori seasons.
>>70878538
>Putting Voyager before any other Star Trek series
Are you okay?
>>70875286
I just watched that trailer and boy am I getting that kinda "nostalgia hype." I haven't even bothered to jump to the new generation since I don't really play videogames anymore but I think I might want to try that. Judge sounds like an amazingly good fit for Kratos too.

>tfw you will never capture and restrain sam only to have her get untied, elbow you in the face and escape, leaving you bloody on the ground watching her ass jiggle as she runs away
I FUCKING LOVE STARGATE!
Just a comfy fucking show. I almost in a constant rewatch status of Either SG1, Atlantis or Universe.
SG1 is just comfy as fuck. While the first half of season 1 and the whole Ori thing are skippable, they just do so much. Some arcs drag a little, but god damn there is some good moments.
Atlantis is my favorite overall. McKay is my hero. If I could get a replica of that picture of him from the episode where him and Shepard are playing the game with and it affects the planets with the Sattelites.. Oh hot damn, front and center living room! The cycled some charectors out and brought new ones in, kept things fresh. The only critisim I have is when they basically do an episode and they even say "I read a mission report when SG1 ran into something simular to this", that happend more than once. And yes, the Wraith are the best "Enemy Race" in all of Stargate.
SGU was just great. Darker, more drama. The tension in the crew. Just an amazing show with so much potential. 2 Seasons was not enough!
>>70881275
Please tell me this is some IMDB pasta.
>>70861249
Lost City was a pretty freaking spectacular two hours of television.
Like it was good enough that if something had gone wrong and the series hadn't been renewed after that... that would have been a pretty satisfactory series finale.
>>70849320
T-thanks Oma
>>70882916
Probably, but he would be spot on if only he left out the part about Atlantis being good.
