Are you hyped about Valerian ?
In one year from now, Valerian will be a movie by Luc Besson based on the most popular french SF comics. The original material is good, like REALLY good (it's about time/space travel and a couple of agents pretty much living their life while humanity goes to shit) and was the visual basis for the Fifth Element.
I was crying of joy when Besson announced it since it's pretty much his childhood dream coming true... then I saw the cast. Why, god why ? Laureline looks cold and unfeminine as fuck (she's supposed to be the polar opposite) and Valerian looks like a kid.
Why do they HAVE to fuck with the original material, even when they're big fans ?
>>70796980
Only if Cara gets naked and raped by muslim refugees and then is stoned to death.
I hate when they cast models or musician just to have a big name it's like they're making fun of their own industry
>wow look it takes literally no hard work or skill to be an actor just be popular
Meanwhile how many out of work actors could play the role way better for next to nothing
>>70796980
if cara wasnt in it i would be excited
>>70796980
>instead of hot redhead we get some british slag
dropped
>>70797360
Find literally any bleached blond methhead at a shitty convenience store and you have Cara.
>>70796980
If Luc wanted some slag who couldn't act then why didn't he just do a casting call and pick the hottest redhead? Would've been cheaper and we'd have another actress worth looking at for awhile. Why is this skank getting work?
>>70797063
>>70797360
>>70797774
Who is this "cara" ? She's famous ? Never saw her.
>>70796980
Those suits look clunky shit as well
At least we have the fifth element
>>70797880
Some model who's inexplicably getting hired.
>>70797880
cara deleveigne(?), some meme model who got into the industry because of nepotism.
How can someone can fuck up the cast so bad ? This is dragonball evolution tier.
Is Besson fucking the girl (or both) ? Laureline is a REDHEAD, that's Valerian 101
>>70797957
>shitting on Are Dane
Be happy a fa/tv/irgin made it
>Why do they HAVE to fuck with the original material, even when they're big fans ?
People are retarded. Yes, even big international directors. He might think this is the entirely correct thing to do.
It thrills me now to see attempts at adaptations of novels I like fail miserably in the development stages because I know that means nobody will touch it out of fear for at least another decade
The last 6/7 years of cinema has had some highs but god damn the lows
>>70797984
What ?
He just looks nothing like Valerian.
>>70797957
Its like producers these days can't bring in new actors ever, and will only hire people who've ever done blockbusters whether they're worth a shit or not.
>>70798009
Who cares? It's not like the movie will be good anyways. Just be happy for our boy.
>>70796980
so it's literally the lost in space movie, ok
>>70798035
The Fifth Element was good.
>>70798071
No. Valerian is much more complicated, they have a spaceship that can go anywhere in space and time and they start as pretty much time police. But then the whole timey wimey crap pretty much destroy humanity and they are the few survivors, drifting amongst the stars and trying to do their jobs even if it doesn't mean anything.
>>70798130
so... it's a buddy cop flick in space?
>>70798095
Nah, that's where he got lost in his style for me, it's just colorful vomit. I like Nikita and Leon, though.
>>70798176
Yes. Plus time travel.
>>70798130
So basically Doctor Who with consequences.
>>70798201
Then try Subway and le Grand Bleu
>>70798201
>if its colorful its bad
>>70798214
And way more sex.
>>70798265
Fuck you know that's gone. He should've made this in the 90s when he knew what he was doing.
>>70798095
This.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkFAcFtBD48
>>70798241
Will do, thank you
>>70798245
Not the best interpretation
>>70798310
I completly agree. Valerian also fade away in fame since the author is so old now. But when I was a kid it was just glorious. You had to be in love with Laureline (the first genuine strong female character without the annoying SJW shit) and like Valerian (airheaded hero with a Bond personality but whipped by Laureline)
Fuck I miss those stories... and the shingoons.
Mul-ti-pass
>>70798362
When you think about it, Oldman was the crazy vilain in two Besson movies... what kind of relation those two have ?
>>70798214
>>70798176
You've got a lot of it right. Remove all the doctor who arbitrary limits, and add a general sense of existential ennui.
They don't got back to the same country on the same planet in the same time period OVER AND OVER AND OVER like Dr Who does.
If you've got the entire multiverse of absolute freedom at your fingertips, it changes the way you look at life, the universe, truth, god, etc.
There's a far more 1950's 1960's sci-fi look to things. Valerian is literally a guy in a space-suit with a ray-gun.
There's a lot of humour, but not stupid Dr Who type humour.
The comics are very rich and busy in terms of visuals -- the settings are extremely varied. The non-human alien species are all over the fucking place. Original trilogy start wars had much of its art department deeply influenced by Valerian comics.
At the end of the day, the whole thing is very VERY french.
There tends to be fewer recurring villains and plots, and a lot more one-off adventures.
Oh and there's a clear love story in play at well.
>>70796980
>that ugly british male to female tranny
Dropped. What a shame, I love Luc Besson too.
>>70798517
Friendly, obviously. I'm sure they still keep in touch.
>>70798362
>cutting off most of Vito's taunting
Who the fuck uploaded this?
>>70798551
>Oh and there's a clear love story in play at well.
A love story ? They are in couple from the get go and it sounds more like a fuck buddy story since Valerian don't mind the occasional mistress, despite Laureline getting pissed everytime.
Valerian doesn't deserve Laureline and he knows it, there's some adventures in which you can clearly see they are "on break" or more distant but it's never shown or adressed. It's an open relationship for Valerian but Laureline seems mostly faithfull, it's very weird. Though you have to remember Laureline is from the Middle-Age.
I agree about the melancholy of those stories. Everything fade away, they never look back and just see countless world. I think Earth and Central Point are the only places they go more than one or two times.
There's some wonderfull stories like the long one ending by meeting "God" or my favorite: the faked earths.
The Empire of 1000 suns is also good and the movie is based on it but I'm afraid it will be shit.
>>70798699
The taunting is the best part.
Buth the ZF1 presentation is gold.
>>70798735
>A love story ? They are in couple from the get go and it sounds more like a fuck buddy story since Valerian don't mind the occasional mistress, despite Laureline getting pissed every-time.
Hot and cold. On and off. Sometimes it seems like they're going to escalate to more than just fuck buddies, but they always dial it back or get in a fight or have a break or something.
Most realistic romance ever.
>>70796980
Shouldn't you wait for a trailer before being hype?
Luc Besson hasn't done anything interesting for a long time, and good actors also appear in bad movies from time to time.
>>70798826
They were really likeable. Especially her.
The frigging story where Valerian take parts of some kind of hero challenge to birth an entire planet with some kind of Goddess. Laureline is pissed off just by the concept of Valerian essentially fucking with a Goddess and then take pleasure to see him stumbeling and suffering threw the whole challenge... and then she proceed to complete the challenge 10 times faster than Valerian.
>>70798897
By the way, if you want to start with Valerian, this one is a good self-contained story with an hilarious plot and characters actually relaxing for once.
The story is simple: a planet of old people needs a progenitor to give birth to a new generation for the whole planet, thanks to their fertility goddess giving birth to all of them. The thing is, the children will adopt the mentality and ideology of their father, effectively making the father some kind of world leader.
4 nations send their best man:
> One fire nation with a fascist militaristic ideology
> One ice nation with a Communist ideology
> One "green" nation with a Hinduist ideology
> Earth, being a democracy, sending Valerian
All heroes except Valerian are extremely powerful and strong but since their ideology are extremes they are sent to the worst tests and suffer endless challenges to reach the final goal. Meanwhile Valerian, showing weakness but also a much more easier way to live is send to the easiest challenge... and still have an hard time with it.
>>70796980
Luc Besson is horrible and Cara is ugly.
>>70797957
he did that already >>70798410
>>70798362
Love the production design here so much. The French sensibility with this kind of film is SO good, a large part of the reason I like Alien: Resurrection is because Jeunet's approach to sci-fi is a lot like Besson's.
>>70798130
>Doctor Who + Dirty Pair
>>70799966
>I like Alien: Resurrection
WE FOUND ONE ! Get him !
>>70799966
I still don't get the hate. Godtier body horror
>>70796980
>French Sci-Fi
Dear god no, I'm still throwing up on The Fifth Element.
>>70800241
I'm glad I don't personally know people like this.
>>70799173
Also giant titties at the end.
>>70796980
>It's another Hollywood ruins a good story film
>>70800507
>hollywood
Ain't this a euro project?
>>70800536
Same shit.
It'll be distributed by Hollywood.
>>70796980
>Laureline and Valerian are supposed to be darker skinned
>They can't even get this one thing right
I'm starting to hate film adaptations so much.
>>70800681
Ey fuck you, darkie, let the whites have their day for once, the real crime is Cara not being a redhead but I guess Besson was like "shit I already did that."
>>70800835
I hate changing the race or appearances of characters for no reason.
If it was the opposite you would too I bet.
>>70800835
>Ghost in the Shell.
Why are they trying to make Cara Delavigne a thing? She's so weird looking.
>>70800942
>>70801027
Come the fuck on, they've got spray tans, that bitch has red hair AND BLUE EYES and the guy has a Dick Van Dyke cut with a square jaw that could pound granite? they're white.
>>70801181
It's bait. Fuck it.
>>70801181
Valerian looks like Chief Squanto. If you're American I know you can't tell difference because you're all part Native over there but they would not pass as White here.
>>70801673
>this is a white man in America
>>70801593
Not even baiting.
You're a dumbass if think they look White.
I guess Esmeralda is White now too, she has green eyes!
Bofuck
as fuck.
Shilling fo sho
No one has that shittytaste
Pornhub/
Waiting for suspect
>Dane Dehaan
>Cara Delememe
I'd watch it on this alone
>>70801181
Valerian is non-white, everyone is bland'd up on Earth during his time and he's from Eastern Europe.
Laureline is from 11th century France, so she's white.
>>70802304
When did I say I was reporting you? Not once.
>>70801560
>>70801593
>>70801673
>>70802222
I honestly didn't know much about the source material, so you know what I am a faggot. Thanks for the info
>>70796980
Is there even an actor these days with the bravado required of Valerian?
It's like Luc secretly hates this series. What the fuck?
>>70799807
T.h.i.s.
Besson is responsible for Mila's movie career. Without him she would still be stuck in doing cameos. However, this makes him also responsible for resident evil franchise being beyond shit. Fuck him.
>>70802555
Nope, they'll almost certainly be directing Are Dane into a more petulant, aggressive direction. Heroes aren't men anymore, they're manchildren with varying levels of decency.
>>70796980
>Luc Besson
>Dane Dehaan
Cautiously hype
>>70797926
>inexplicably
Look her family up.
>>70799807
>>70803007
This is sort of a French thing.
Guys like Jean Luc Goddard prided themselves on getting good performances out of models.
Just look at Anna Karina. Not really an actress, but perfect for the roles in which she was cast. With the right direction, he was able to get the right kind of performance out of her.
Same with mila.
How does it feel to know that the culture that created this comic is now dead, and that the only thing left that makes any sort of sense (and only if you have sufficient funds to be part of the protected caste), is to roam the world looking at how it all got fucked up, just like the protagonists?
>>70803214
There are far prettier models than Cara. With red hair.
>>70800408
Gwynevere from Dark Souls always reminded me a lot of that fertility goddess at the end
>>70803414
Well I'm on board.
>>70798095
Fifth Element had perfect casting. Willis, Oldman, even Jovovich and Tucker.
>>70797063
this
>Luc Besson
No thanks.
>>70803732
>no landing strip
DROPPED
>>70796980
>That suit tries to imply Cara has tits
That's adorable. She could wear the same outfit Dehann has on and be comfortable.
>>70803732
Oh come on, no hair?
>>70803917
If memory serves, that was made for a Playboy issue, so they may have asked to have it drawn clean shaven. I agree though, a real shame not to have an ounce of bush on that piece of medieval ass.
>>70803315
Yes, but you have to admit Cara has personality.
>>70804078
When her personality is "skank" I find I'd rather have no personality at all.
>>70804221
Oh neat the woman hating meme.
>>70804241
No, just whore hating. There is a difference.
>>70804426
this
>>70804221
sounds like irrational hatred, anon.
i want this to be good but I dont like their costumes
but hey
5th element was cool and its a good comic
>>70805806
>irrational
I'm not the one who wants to shove my dick in a ragged cesspool.
