I've been marathoning this show. Up to Episode 16 now.

For those who have seen; how do you rate this show? Especially the reveal of the killer.

I felt that it was too rushed: I mean it would have been better to see more messages given to Cooper through visions etc and more clues before the father just stared at himself in the mirror and bam it hit us that Bob is his alter ego

All the Lynchian nightmare scenes are pure horror fantastic.

>how do you rate this show?
It's in my top 3.

In case you're blissfully oblivious to the history of this show, you're in for a sour surprise. See pic related. It also addresses why the reveal felt rushed (it was).
HOWEVER, as the image says, it is definitely worth getting through it for the finale, which is an excellent episode, directed by Lynch.

I'm telling you this because you might not have had the patience to watch all the filler (it really is that bad) if you didn't know it gets back into form at the end. This happened to a lot of people back in the day, when it aired.
So, when you're watching these episodes, remember, it's worth it.
>>
>>70784345
>>70784450
What makes them fillers? Did they introduce unnecessary subplots?
>>
>>70784546
Yes, lots of them. There is also a distinct drop in the quality of writing in general and it's embarrassing to watch these people try and imitate Lynch at times.
>>
>>70784579
I just began episode 17 and the way people are delivering lines sounds very different

It's funny, sometimes I wonder if the drop in quality would feel as sudden as it does, if you had no previous knowledge of it. First time I watched it, I also knew it was coming.

By the way, from what I've heard Lynch originally not only wanted to extend the mystery, he did not intend to solve it at all.
>>
>>70784872
Do you know what will be happening in season 3 beginning next year?
>>
Honestly Twin Peaks would have been more legendary than it is now if the mystery was never solved.
>>
>>70784914
I know some things, but they're spoilery and better left a mystery until it arrives. Besides, you don't even know how this one ends.
Also, I don't think you should treat it as a third season, I mean, it's been a quarter of a century.

>>70784978
>would've could've should've
Useless speculating about alternate realities. Everything would be completely different had it not been resolved.
>>
>>70785031
Good news I hear is Lynch will be writing and directing all the episodes so can't wait

Yeah, that alone makes me hype beyond reason.
My suggestion for the finale - watch it late at night, in darkness, without any distractions. It's really atmospheric.
I'd suggest the same about any film or tv, really, but the filler episodes can easily be watched in a crowded train if you like.

Who the hell is the dwarf? I hope they explain who he is.

And yeah I will make sure of that. Thats how I marathoned the 3 hour Inland Empire. Such a great memory of seeing that through 1 AM - 4 AM

>Inland Empire
Yeah, I watched it about the same time. Quite an experience. My favorite from Lynch after Fire Walk With Me.
About that.. You should give it a watch sometime when you're done with the show. As you may or may not know, it's highly divisive. Almost everyone hated it at release but it's become increasingly well regarded over the years, and now many consider it a masterpiece. As do I, except for me it was love on first viewing.
Just don't expect it to be like the show. It's completely different in many ways.

>>70785690
I'm glad there are people still discovering it.
>>
>>70785828
Yeah as I have read Fire Walk With Me is full on adult as Lynch was not forced to make it tv friendly

>>

There's a reason that's the only episode guide.
It's so damned perfect.
>>
>>70785979
This. It was him wresting back creative control from Showtime. A risky stunt, but one that worked.
>>
>>70785979
So he is still writing and directing all of season 3?

I found this:
>No reason is given for the change of plans which had the show dropping in 2016, but it might have to do with the new season expanding from nine to eighteen episodes. And given how painful it was locking Lynch into the contract in the first place, perhaps Showtime realizes there’s no sense in pushing him at this point.
>>
>>70785610
Cliffhanger ending. Lynch knew it was gonna get canceled at that point, and decided to troll it the fuck up with a bunch of insane cliffhangers. Like the bank exploding.
>>
>>70785979
>>70786040
The show is now in post-production, around 18 episodes are planned
>>
>>70786052
>So he is still writing and directing all of season 3?
Yes. Filming is completed, it's being edited right now.
We don't know how many episodes there will be, and neither does anyone. Eighteen is by no means a confirmed number.
>>
>>70786052
He and Mark Frost are writing the season (actually have already had the teleplays sitting around for a good while according to interviews) and Lynch is still evidently confirmed to direct every episode.
>>
>>70783258
great show

one of the most comfiest shows ever I still go back to it

the problem to me is they changed the story and nearly overhauled everything because of jealously between a dumb broad and the actress playing Audrey, it becomes apparent about halfway into season 2 and nearly made me drop the show but stick around for the finale and you're good
>>
>>70786094
I was hype as fuck on the last day of filming. Personally I was just glad Lynch is still alive. He's old enough to die whenever now, and it's making me nervous.
>>
>>70786052
Yes, he is the director of every episodes
I have to confessed i'm a bit worried since twin peaks wasnt 100% Lynchian but a mix between him, frost and other writers. If it goes full Lynch we could lose some of the twin peaks vibes
>>
>>70786169
Mark Frost cowrote every script. I feel it won't be too different. Maybe a bit more Lynchian, but not enough to kill the vibe.

Jim Belushi's a recurring character after all.

Basically he did Mulholland Drive but in reverse.

Probably not. Certainly no boobs.
I think the story would've turned out very different as well. More of the supernatural instead of the "it's all a dream" explanation.
>>
>>70786312
Definitely the lesbian scene and plot would have been reduced.

But if the show was made right now: the LGBT would definitely appreciate a show with heaps of lesbian/gay related themes.

Depends what year it would have been made in.

Anywah I hope Lynch still makes more stuff after this show.

Dont wanna lose him ;_;

>>
>>70786371
I have mixed feelings about that. On one hand I would never have seen what could be the best sex scene involving Naomi Watts. On the other I love Lynch's supernatural angles, and a longer story in general.

There's also the fact that you can really tell when what you were watching stopped being a TV show and started being a film. It was jarring (not that that's a bad thing, but the transition was pretty profound.)

Looks like he just did some script doctoring with those. He co-wrote them with two unknown writers, who likely did the bulk of the work.

His solo works, particularly Storyville (which he directed) and The Greatest Game Ever Played (which he wrote on its own) were much better.
>>
>>70785506
The dwarf is Mike.
Phillip Gerrard is possessed by a spirit called Mike who used to be Bob's master, in fwwm you see the dwarf using phillip like a sock puppet and order Bob around, you can connect the dots from there.
>>
>>70785506
The Dwarf is MIKE's missing arm, according to Fire Walk With Me.
>>
>>70786928
Wrong. The dwarf is not Mike, they're separate entities. He is the arm, as explained in FWWM and Missing Pieces.
>>
>>70785630
I wouldn't really pin it to a conventional religion, but yes, that would be pretty accurate. There is definitely a supernatural angle of Twin Peaks that is pretty vital to the overall series.
>>
>>70783258
I loved the first series, but the show went downhill with the second and the supernatural bullshit was absolute trash. Especially a later episode with the midget and the backwards audio. I'm glad it didn't get a third series, the ending of the second was some of the worst television I've ever seen.

>Missing Pieces

Speaking of, be sure to watch the FWWM fanedit that puts in every missing piece except for the one where Coop's talking to Diane in her office. I feel it really brought back the atmosphere the theatrical cut lost and a few scenes were incredibly important, a few even adding to the tone of the film. The lighthearted WHERE'S MY AXE dinner scene, for example, provided a great contrast between that dinner and the next day's, when Leland had been completely taken over by BOB.
>>
>>70787002

Really cool, thanks. I'm really curious to see how the Jeffries scene was dealt with. Is it just the Missing Pieces version? I know I'm the minority, but I loved the way it was done in FWWM, the editing and the music were perfect. I also liked the static overlay.

How do all you all think of Lynch as a writer?

I've heard some state he can have a problem of finding a good conclusion to his pieces (why he originally wanted Twin Peaks to not show the killer and leave it up to the audience?)

I thought his conclusion to Lost Highway is one of the best written things he's done - the end scene being basically the scene before Fred is brought into prison - as this movie is all jumbled up.

I still don't get how Fred was able to change his identity, or is this scene meant to be an entire dream sequence as Fred imagines himself younger with a different girl who looks identical to his wife as he thinks over the whorehouse she worked at and the guy she worked for?

It's just a stupid soap opera with some random access humor sprinkled in every now and then. If you honestly think Lynch is anything beyond a pretentious surrealist then you're a plebian of the highest degree.
>>
>>70788822
>(why he originally wanted Twin Peaks to not show the killer and leave it up to the audience?)

Because Twin Peaks was about so much more than Laura Palmer, he had all these characters and subplots he wanted to write and develop, and the murder mystery was just literally bait to attract viewers and make them interested into all that other stuff.

>>
>>70784546
>the whole episodes where nadine is a crazy, one-eyed woman with super strength who thinks she is 17
>>
>>70784546
In a desperate attempt to keep things going after the reveal, Twin Peaks introduces A FUCK TON of subplots for each character. This is where it fully transitions into a soap opera.
Some are good (Like Earle's Ruse Cruise), some are terrible (Like James' Noir Story), and some are just meh (Like Josie's Noir Story).
But for the most part, the Twin Peaks mythos get established around this stretch of episodes, and a lot of supernatural elements get names and rules. So I'd suggest you watch it.

If you really want to skip, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0gGDjDFuQY for a small recap.
