Has Duncan Jones done an interview or made any comments since finding out Warcraft was badly received by critics and likely won't do well at the box office? Or is he just hiding from the world? I really want to know what he has to say now since being so exceptionally vocal about how good the film was prior to its release.
>>

What about comments from any of the cast, writers, producers, etc?

Rob Kazinsky said he doesn't understand the hate it's getting in the US. He says that while he doesn't think it's a perfect movie, people who watched it told him that the movie was an 8/10 and higher, and not 1/10.
>>
>>70782391
I think the content of the movie was good, but it was poorly acted (the humans, mostly) and poorly edited which triggers critics a lot more than it triggers ordinary cinema goers.

Yet a movie like Sharknado gets 82% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Something is up

I really fucking hope Mute doesn't die for Warcraft's sins
>>
Most of the critics I listen too, have given it a passing grade, saying that it's by no means horrible but has a few big flaws hampering it.

I think the problem is that reviewers are herd animals. When a particularly influential critic says something is bad, all his toadies will dogpile on it.

And video game adaptations? There's probably at least a little bias going into that.

But how is she half Orc if they just very recently made contact with humans? I didn't understand that.

Almost like an unneeded thing to try and push the whole "forbidden love" thing movie makers love.

I heard they made Garona Medivh's daughter in the film. Is that true? She was his lover in previous cannon.

>But how is she half Orc if they just very recently made contact with humans? I didn't understand that.
That's something that always fucked around in Blizard Lore. Originally the time between the 1st and 2nd war was much longer, which gave enough time for a human-orc rape baby to mature. Then Blizzard made the time between 1st and 2nd war much shorter without addressing Garona's parentage, just shrugging it off.

THEN (in a book) Medivh says that Draenor must have "humans or something close"
THEN they said she was half orc, half Draenei and just happened to look half human (lol).
THEN they made her half orc half human again and she was ages quickly by Fel Magic (A wizard did it defense).
I haven't seen the film, so I couldn't say what she is now.

More just problems with condensing a lot of lore into a 2 hour movie type thing but yeah it was kinda a big plot hole when this is supposed to be the first time they've met. I know the Alliance sends a scout team in in the lore but that might be Burning Crusade stuff that I'm mixing in timewise.
>>
>>70783550
That scouting party was ater the 2nd war. They send a group consisting of Turyalon, Alleria, Khadgar and a dwarf to close the portal from the other side.
>>
>>70783470
>I heard they made Garona Medivh's daughter in the film.

Medivh kind of implies it. There's a scene where she talks about how she is having trouble finding acceptance in either culture and Medivh answers by telling a vague story of him traveling to another world and finding a woman of another race that accepted him as he was. Garona asks about him leaving her alone, and he doesn't answer.

I wouldn't have any problem with this retcon. Garona because it clears up the timeline issue if she's half-human and makes it easier to explain compared to her only thinking she's half-human but actually being half-draenei.

Also, no Med'an. That's a huge upside.

i don't care for the movie but i feel bad for him, i enjoyed moon and he seems like a nice guy.

With his wife getting cancer at the start of the film, his dad dying of cancer shortly before its release, three years invested into rewriting what he called a cliched script, plus making a movie he went above and beyond to express how proud he was of, how much he loves being the one to build this world, and how excited he is to turn it into his Dark Knight franchise, I highly doubt it's just a movie to him.

People saying Garona was a highlight really baffles me. Several weak performances to be sure, but her's was the worst imo and it's not even close.

All the other actors created a character, even if that character didn't work, but her acting was CW tier generic.
>>

Yeah, the thing this board needs right now is another director offering "profound" insight as to why his film is actually good and why it's disappointing critics "didn't get it".
>>
>>70783718
If you watch him talk about it before its release, it REALLY doesn't sound like he does.

I just watched an interview where he flat out says he wants to follow Nolan's career path by making smaller indie movies on the side, with this being his big budget mainstream franchise; and that he wouldn't be interested in working on a Star Wars film, because he wants to keep being the first to create the film world of Warcraft.

So, no, I doubt he knew it was bad.

It's too soon to say that even with its success overseas. It reportedly needs 500 mil to break even. So it needs to more than double its opening week to not be a loss, and pretty much triple it to bring in a decent profit.

really? worse than Khadgar's? because I can't think of a worse performance I've seen in a big movie in fucking years than that shitshow. Garona's was at least passable to me.
>>
>>70785242
500 million? Have you been listening to Hollywood accountants? There's hardly any promotion. At most another 50 million on top of production costs.
>>
>>70785516
To me, yeah.

I think Khadgar's actor didn't fit the role. He played sort of a goofy, comic relief, butt of the jokes, character that becomes a hero or whatever. Idk, it didn't fit into the epic scale of the movie, the character wasn't well done, but the acting wasn't bad in the way Garona's was IMO.

To me Garona was stale and seemed like she was reading a script. It felt like she was trying to act the whole movie.
>>
>>70785242
>It's too soon to say that even with its success overseas. It reportedly needs 500 mil to break even. So it needs to more than double its opening week to not be a loss, and pretty much triple it to bring in a decent profit.

Most of these sources pulled numbers out of their asses, . For example, they completely ignored tax return .
>>
If you actually read what the critics have said, you'll notice they just feel the story isn't deep enough and that the movie is 100% fanservice because they didn't really know what was going on. They are also sick of fantasy movies.
>>
The rest of the world loves Warcraft, it's only Murrica that shits on it.
>>
>>70786297
Source?

It's doing better (well?) financially in other markets, but are critics in other countries giving it better reviews? Where can those reviews be found?
>>
I really liked it tbqh.

Anyone going in expecting a revolutionary experience was setting themselves up for disappointment or intended to shit on it from the beginning (likely the latter). It's a fantasy flick based on a video game with B actors at best, and considering that, it turned out really well. The CG was top notch with the exception of dwarves, which were hardly in it at all, and they stayed true to the story and games to an astounding degree. Stormwind was a 1:1 copy, Ironforge/Dun Morogh looked like it was ripped from the game, etc. It wasn't perfect by any measure, but it is definitely getting an unwarranted amount of hate.
>>
>>70782630
I liked him, but I haven't seen vikings. I hear others think he sounds too similar to his role there, but it doesn't bother me of course.

He was comparing the fact that people went in the lotr movies with prior knowledge of the books and this would have changed their opinion on the films

I saw the films before reading the books, and I can honestly empathise with not understanding the geography and relevance of some of the kingdoms. LoTR also feels like a series of disconnected events and areas if you don't have any knowledge about the universe.

Don't pretend LoTR movies are on some higher level compared to warcraft. Although the source material is of superior literary value, the films are both overly long fantasy fluff.

I did wonder that for a big movie why it didnt have epic music like other movies, hunger games, independance day all other blockbusters have that choir music going on thi had dubstep right off the bat which didnt fit or make it look epic in any way form or shape, it was pretty abvious there were haters

I don't know about you 'murricunts but I'm from Yurop and quite liked the movie. I did only play Warcraft3 Roc and TFT nothing else.

Do you really believe that most of the people who watched lotr actually read all the books?

Makes sense. Europeans are retarded.

Err yes? It's a very common childrens book in the UK.

maybe it's different in America

What I have tried to work out is why do some of the CGI effects look 10/10 (close ups of an Orc's face) but other scenes of the movie look 4/10 (such as pic related which makes it obvious that there is a green screen there).

It's as if Duncan hired 2 different companies to make the Orcs and human side.

You'd think that a director who wants to make a movie look 100% utter realistic so no one laughs at him and takes him seriously, would make sure that the full movie looks really professional.

This is the main problem that I have with the movie.

WoW isn't the greatest movie you'll see this year, but it doesn't deserve the negative reviews it got from americans.

It's like they went in expecting to be reminded of lotr and then got pissy when WoW is nothing like that.

If they had labeled the movie Marvel: World of Warcraft it probably would have instantly jumped 50% in critic ratings.

Do you have any idea of how many watched LOTR who had no knowledge of the books? Millions upon millions!

The reason it won so many awards is because everyone understood it. It is not like this Warcraft movie which was only made for fans - implying that so much was left out of the movie which made it confusing to watch.

Ive listened to reviews from non gamers who all state the same thing about back stories not being explained and cities not being explained as to why the characters are there.

But as with LOTR, it was perfectly made for anyone as young as 6 to fully understand it.

You have to read wiki page links if you want to fully understand Warcraft.

It's implied that Medivh is the father in the movie.
So half human.
In the first game she's also half human.
>>
>>70793673
So? One of the most important rules of film adaptation is that you cannot rely on the audience having previous knowledge of the source material.

I haven't seen this film yet, but if a majority of the audience felt as if they were lost, then the director has failed.

Everyone I've talked to, even at the crowd really liked it.

I mean what the fuck were critics expecting?
It WAS literally supposed to a SFX showreel with Warcraft stuff and that's what they got.

Watched part of Fellowship EE last night. We spend damn near close to an hour before even leaving The Shire. By that time I truly felt like I had intimate knowledge of The Shire and was embarking out into a much larger world.

The film was fucking kino the moment i realised it was when Grom had a tear coming down his face in hesitation after Durotans death, this was the single most epic moment out of many in the film for me, subtle but there
>>

Have you tried watching it in black and white yet?

Was that Grom that we kept seeing? I thought it was just an easter egg that one of them looked so much like him, even though he never came across with Gul'dan's Horde.

Its basically calling tolkiens first hand experiences in an actual war irrelevant to a franchise built around, ya know, a huge war.
>>
>>70795436
Where the fuck have you been? Old, white an male are three of the most insulting things you can call someone nowadays.
>>
>>70794586
Yeah in the books/games, it's dying too. Gul'dan decided he was too rebellious to bring along and banned him from coming or something like that. He got held back with a few other clans and Ner'zhul.

I rewatched all the Orc sceens and I can't believe i didn't realize it was him the entire time, Gorehowl and all. He even seems to cry at Durotan's death.

>>
>>70795300
How was Tolkien old when he was in the Trences of WW1?! Is he saying that fighting in the trences makes you old white and a man? Why did he include "old" and "white"?? Can'T he just say: "A man in the trenches"??
Why is this so hard, now it sounds like an insult!
>>
>>70783470
Yes. Medivh told Garona he was a NEET and kissless virgin so he travelled across the universe or something and was taken in by a mate who loved him, it is implied that it was Garonas mother.
It also hints that Medivh had been to Draenor and met with Gul'dan, it also hints that this was as Sargeras or whatever the lore with those two was.
>>
>>70796455

>>
>>70793986
Will we ever see the likes of this again?
From what I gather, the Jews at Warner Bros more or less Jackson have full creative control.
Duncan Jones didnt have the balls to let them make the film longer, which in my opinion it needed, as it stands it felt rushed and.not enough comfy moments.
>>
>>70782723
The apple really does fall far from the tree

Duncan felt it was very important to tell several stories at the same time so we had to jump around much more.

Its more along the lines of the general problem with all genre fiction.

As genre fiction is all about using the articulated work of someone else as your jumping off point for a totally different story that isn't really compatible with or as thought out as that original work.
