It came in second to The Conjuring domestically and it will not clear 500 million worldwide and it will probably barely take in 150 million domestically if it even makes 100 million.

I don't know if that Chinese dosh is worth chasing after, but from here it looks like this franchise is DOA, which is a bummer but that's what happens when your CG shitfest comes out way too late.

I liked it well enough. Apparently the domestic gross is also going to turn out slightly better than expected after poor reviews. So hopefully we'll get a much stronger sequel, even though I don't think that's ever happened. But I'll probably enjoy the sequel too. It's no masterpiece, but it's an enjoyable fantasy flick. Really surprised it didn't get a mediocre response from critics, rather than being totally panned by them. Oh well. At least it finally got made.
