It's slower. The last two episodes were a blink and you'll miss a plot point and that plot point is a doozie. This episode was slow. Not bloody aside from Cassidy hitting the Angels with the van. And even then the gore was barely there.
But this was the first episode that wasn't written by Seth and his partner. That's probably why.

I hated the casting. I hated the story. The story is perfect because things that eems unimportant will have relevance in the future, why would they ruin for MUH ORIGINAL SCRIPT? they should've done a whole new series about anything else instead of an adaptation, like you've said.

Cassidy may be a vampire, but he's a junkie too. Plus, he only regularly drinks animal blood, and then only to heal himself. From what I understood about the character, he was usually so fucked up on drinking or drugs, that he had a hard time even healing himself. I think he even overdoses and gets buried at one point.

This is actually a bit more common than you'd think. Like, when I was a kid there was a guy everyone "knew" was a pedo. I'm watching the first ep right now and they're really fucking up Jesse.
Jesse was a treat to see in the comics. His John Wayne mentality stripped down to function in the modern world was so well done and he actually felt like a character with a life behind him before it showed his fucked up backstory.
Now he's just a boring dude. Its like they wrote generic-supernatural-tv-show-man and just added all the bare minimum details so that he kinda seems like Jesse.
And what the fuck are they doing with Tulip. Having kids make a bazooka, god this is dumb. Her intro in the comic was a small taste of violence not some shit a five year old would think up.
Like what are we supposed to get from that? That Tulip is a zany violent woman? That's just a dull character, in the comic she was introduced as a woman on real hard times with a checkered past with Jesse that felt real.
Cassidy is great. Wish he would wear the glasses and had this show's Jesse's haircut so he actually looked like Cassidy but eh. The joy of seeing him on screen physically doesn't matter if the character is played right and so far it seems solid. The cow scene seemed right out of the comic.
Maybe they should just make a Cassidy show. He's by far the most successful adaptation-wise and in his standalone attributes/actions. Plus there's enough there with his origin story to show, especially with his old drinking buddies. There should at least be an episode all about his origin.
I get wanting to tell your own story with a source material. Just doing a page-by-page adaptation of the comic would probably be hard to fuck up since its paced so episodically but I get wanting to have your own vision in there.
But this just seems like something I'll end up urging people to avoid if they wanna get into Preacher because, so far, this is really not Preacher.

Pretty much they simplified everything, from the story to the characters. Tulip is wrong, not because MUH STRONK WOMYN, but because the comic character was slowly developed on the series and here is lika BAM McGyver with tits.

The diference is GoT books are long and had a lot of details, chage is necesary to adapt it to TV. Not only because most of details are unnecesary, but also because budget.
At this point every change on Preacher is not aimed to cut budget or avoid unnecesary detail, is just changes for the sake of changes. Look at how poorly developed is Tulip here.
I'm going through the first episode with the Seth Rogan and Other Guy commentary and so far it seems like this project was just kind of dropped into their lap.

Not him, but the whole change of "I hate guns" to Annie Oakley is part of her develpment. Show Tulip didn´t had that, was presented as an insta-win. Right now is the most flat chacter in the show.
This looks like a cult classic in the making, Joe Gilgun is especially top notch but his part in This is England could have told you this much
