Best comedian to come out of america together with Carlin.

Wish he was alive to witness this era
>>
In the Carlin and Bill Maher category of 'not a comedian'
>>
I love the way he used to think and pretty funny too

carlin too bland
>>
He gets pretty edgy, but he's funny

Yeah. Early carlin was pretty bland. more on the goofy side, but still decent. His thirties were his golden era, he got bitter afterwards.

Check out his bit on Time. Pretty early and decent. Hicks was overall pretty good.

>>70760474

Wouldnt call him the best but he is top tier for sure.
>>
Hicks was cool. I'd like to drop acid with him
>>

as in low on jokes and mostly just ranting or
>>
>>70760735

I watched his material right when I was going through my most edgy teenage phase so a part of it ringed just right, so I'm probably drawing from nostalgia too much, but he's still good.

These days I find myself re watching Chappelle and Gervais stuff, looking around. Not much happening on the amateur scene either
>>
>>70760803

He has plenty of not edgy bits and even the more edgy ones are great fun. The waffle house bit and the story where he "accidentally" buys a British porno mag are probably my favorite.

I feel you man, Ive been rematching old stuff too, cant really get into anything new these days. I checked some stuff off from netflix when I had a free month and all the stand up was pretty bad.

You all love the dead comedians don't you? Fat lazy, dead Bill Hicks.

I was I was dead.
>>
I've always been a huge fan, although I don't listen to him much anymore. There was a time when I idolized him and knew every album, special, bootleg, documentary etc. I read every book that existed about him. I knew every joke and ate up his every word. I've definitely withdrawn from that because I wore out his catalogue and I certainly don't agree with everything he said, nor do I think he was the funniest ever. His diehard fans are also very cultish. He was great though, so I admire him.

He also helped leave a strange standard for comedy that expects comedians to preach their views and add a sort of philosophy to their comedy, which was honestly one of Hicks' faults as a comedian. He often got too preachy and had a short temper for people who didn't see it his way, and wasn't funny when he was acting like that. Still, what I admire about him was his conviction. His standards about artists selling out were silly and arbitrary, but he believed in them and stuck with them to the very end. The Orange Drink story was true. He yearned for fame but refused to get their unless it was on his terms.

In the end I think he was very important for comedy, although I can see why others aren't very fond of him.

He was fantastic when he was being silly, but when he got angry he wasn't funny. Carlin was better at that. He had a better ability to fit absurdity and jokes into his anger.

I will always laugh at his impressions of his parents on the Relentless special though.

I'd love to hear him rant about Clinton.
>>
>>70760389
a comedian loved by edgelords because instead of making jokes he just went on about politics and shit, which is what one should look for in a comedian.

He made tons of jokes and not everything he did was politically charged. He did plenty of preaching though.
>>
>>70760702
i retrospect it's the bitter thing i find the most bland

I liked him when I was an edgy teenager.
kinda embarrassing now desu

Holy shit.

Both of them also called people sheep
>>
If he was new on the scene, calling him tryhard edgy would make sense. But he was around before all this anti-pc shit was "edgy" or "hack". He's got quite an interesting mind, which makes him a great comic imo. The clip where he screams at the heckler lady is also fantastic...

Definitely a game changer in comedy and a smart dude.

As most things of past he is relic of his time, but relic that is still funny and his rants are still meanibgfull. I would love to see his take on this PC world. Also it should have been Leary...

people who still do

>>70762196

I find people who pretend to be better than everyone else in 4chan cringier than that.

We basically brand anyone who dares step out of the mold as "edgy" "pretentious" or just some other dumb buzzword. Hicks was objectively great, his style was a game changer along with many other hard hitters of the pre-milennial era. My point is: let's not try to pretend we're ultra mature here. It's not like Hicks was full on edgy either.

Its a good thing he smoked, that cancer did get him in the end

Same as everybody else. Loved him from about 18-20. The recent documentary about him (American or something - came out in 2009) was really well made desu.

Still enjoy him but i dont really like much standup beyond Dylan Moran

Insight and maturity on /tv/? What is happening here? I like hicks and Carlin. No I'm not 16. I like Louis ck. No I'm not a cuck. I like Gervais and Jim Jeffries, and I've never even owned a fedora. I also liked the force awakens and the dark knight. What are /tv/s meme words for those?

I think when he got way older was when he was at his best, I like him, but i couldnt really watch any of his older stuff without getting bored.

Also I tried Bill Hicks but he just came off too much on trying to look edgy and cool by bringing up all the drugs that he takes.
