"Clara was exactly like Amy, Moffat writes women all the same"

I don't remember Amy throwing a tantrum at the Doctor because he left her.
I don't remember Amy betraying the Doctor.
I don't remember Amy trying to become the Doctor.
>>
Reminder that Gareth just buried his writing career at the BBC with a single tweet.

i'm sorry, when have moral dilemmas become an established part of Doctor Who? Since when are they part of the episode formula and need to be done over and over and over again? Is there some sort of secret contract going on with the people at the dilemma-estate which says that moral dilemmas need to be done at least once a year or else the production team loses the rights to do them?
and why the fuck do fans love them? They're always the same!
>Do the good thing

If it is a fixed point in history, then that's even more of a cop-out. Then there was nothing the Doctor can do.

Here we go - it's VNA-inspired, and thus a bit edgy, with an OC soldier who worked with him during the Pertwee days (now retired from active duty, working as a groundskeeper at a very special facility). Basically just the one scene - I may write the rest of it at some point, or I could just greentext a rough outline of what's next.

it's weird, almost as if Moffat's companions are meant to be parallels to Rtd's companions.
Rose: young chaf with only a mother - amy: young stripper with no parents
martha: aspiring to be a doctor - clara: aspiring to be a teacher
donna: uneducated, middle-aged temp worker - bill: uneducated, middle-aged black woman

I think I can already see what Chibnall's first companion is going to be like

lol nothing good. Just an introduction to an OC character. It was gonna be set just before the Time War and lead into it from the eyes of a Time Lord who was gung-ho for Gallifrey and the High Council. McGann - Phwoar

Ecclestone - bit of rough in a good way

Tennant - cute but didn't fancy him (not sure why)

Smith - could imagine shagging him

Capaldi - wouldn't say no to the Capaldick, he's cute for an older guy.

Yeah, no, mate. It was shoved in our faces enough that the Time Lords' prophecy could have been inaccurate. "The hybrid" served its thematic purpose for 12 and Clara. There is absolutely zero imperative for it to be brought up again. The doctor finds the location of gallirey by consulting an eternal, perhaps they agreed to leave the universe alone during the time-war, so the doctor finds a way to summon them back.

the doctor finds Gallifrey in pocket universe, a long period of time has passed and the planet is fucked up, with some entity keeping it hostage. The locals blame the doctor for messing up, the doctor's reputation has been damaged

NYSSA: Recursion isn't nonsense.
TEGAN: Eh?
NYSSA: That's an example of recursion, when procedures fold back on themselves. If you had an index file, you could look it up in the index file.
TEGAN: If. My Dad used to say that if was the most powerful word in the English language.
NYSSA: Recursion's a powerful mathematical concept, but I don't see how it can help us now.

All of HS stays the same (The Doctor breaks through to Gallifrey, pissed at Rassilon and the High Council, etc.)

Hell Bent is a massive power struggle between the Doctor and Rassilon, with Rassilon attempting to bring Gallifrey back into the universe proper and the Doctor trying to stop him and keep Gallifrey where it is because of the events in TotD. At the end, the Doctor ouwits Rassilon and the High Council, and is prasied by the Time Lords who want him to be president. The Doctor refuses and simply wants to go on his way, but the Time Lords insist that there must be something they can do for him. The Doctor considers it, and uses an extraction chamber to see Clara one last time. After a tearful goodbye, the Time Lords grant the Doctor his TARDIS and allow him to go on his way.

The Hybrid prophecy comes true; in the uprising against Rassilon, the Citadel has been all but destroyed. Many lives are lost, and the Doctor is horrified, but recognizes the fact that it was necessary. The new High Council deems this the true end of the Time War: Time Lords v Time Lords.
>>

Well that's just incorrect.
The Sunni/Shia conflicts existed long before any Western influence, and most of the land ownership stuff is purely sectarian stuff, deeply entrenched religious stuff.

[Expanding on an older post of mine 1/3]

Instead of easily exploiting his rep as a war hero to depose Rassilon, 12 exploits his rep as a war hero (and some technological ingenuity) to incite the poverty-stricken masses to finally rise up in chaotic riot against Rassilon and the golden towers of Gallifrey.
As this massive social upheaval bursts into catastrophic chaos, 12 then manipulates the resulting panic and disarray to reach the highest seat on Gallifrey and depose Rassilon (the Doctor being the only person who could possibly defuse the situation). At this point he claims he needs an extraction chamber in order to solve the crisis.
He extracts Clara, shoots the General and they make a break for it. Their escape takes place within a Gallifrey on fire and the formerly-Doctor gives not one fuck, not for the elites who imprisoned him for 4.5 billion years nor the common folk he's cynically sent to the front lines in his emotional deadness. Clara is horrified but simultaneously complicit as she runs. Her continued presence is causing instability in the web of time; as one of the guards attempts to shoot her down, the impossibility of the event creates a massive glitch that breaks open the hidden passage to the Cloisters.
As they descend into Time Lord Hell, the Sliders part to greet them as heralds of the prophesied revolution, and some begin to ascend out of the crypt to join in the ravaging of Gallifrey (in an echo of both the Dalek Sewer Revolt and the Handmines). Guarded by a ring of Sliders, 12 tells Clara about his experience in HS, conspicuously changing the subject when she asks what the Hybrid is and saying he only went through it to save her (she's skeptical). But both appalled and moved by the chaos he has caused for her sake, she makes her unseen speech trying to resolve the feelings between them.
As General and co. burst in, Clara denounces how their own corruption unleashed this hell on their heads, to distract them while 12 steals a TARDIS.
>>
>>70765645
Fleeing from Time Lord pursuit, 12 pilots them to the end of the universe, the last planet, as time disintegrates and trying to follow a TARDIS becomes impossible. By happenstance, it's the same planet from Listen. Ashildr is there along with some Sliders. She teases him with the possibility that this planet might be all that's left of Gallifrey, but this barren landscape reveals nothing about what came of his revolution. Did it ruin everything or bring about a utopia? There's a 50% chance either way but everything comes to dust in the end.
They have a conversation about the Hybrid similar to that in the original episode, except rather than poo-pooing any of her theories, 12 says that the theme has seemed to keep re-appearing in his life, taunting him as if in punishment for some old sin. His life has always been as a hybrid, and only now has he realised the true horror of when that goes too far. He and Clara have to call it quits.
His sonic sunnies beep and inform him that somehow a Time Lord attack capsule has tracked them here, despite the apparent impossibility. He realises that Clara's memory of him and the Time Lords is what they are tracing.
Acknowledging that hybrids don't go down so easily, he invites Ashildr onto the TARDIS to prolong the cycle of her life for unknown years to come, and she accepts. Perhaps the Doctor has finally given up on mayflies?
However Clara has bopped on the scanner while he was out, and has twigged that he plans to wipe her memory. She is furious that he'd do it without her consent and he realises he can't bring himself to pull another Donna. He says there's one other way for her to go free, and that's to reverse it and wipe his memory of her so that she might run off without him ruining everything with 'muh duty of care' again. But she can't do it either. They come up with a compromise - fuck with the device so there's a 50% chance of either happening, and they're both sharing the responsibility, one last hybrid.

2/3
>>
>>70765689
It goes as you expect. Clara is distraught as 12 slips into unconsciousness (Ashildr is pretty amused however, not expecting this turn of events).
We return to 12 and the waitress, and what's different here is that we haven't seen them since the opening and we haven't seen her face yet. So the fact she's Clala comes as a late-game reveal rather than an opening bait.
The end plays out much the same. Clara is aware that her existence is a problem for the Time Lords, but it wouldn't be the first time something radical got away from them...and she suspects perhaps the web of time is more flexible than they'd have it appear. She asks Ashildr if, after a lifetime of staying behind, she wants to try running. They whizz off on their own little gay version of Doctor Who forever more.
Meanwhile, as the dazed 12 finds his TARDIS and looks upon the Clala painting with mournful recognition, he goes in, sees Clara's message of "BE A DOCTOR" - but underneath it now she's written a set of co-ordinates. He realises it's Gallifrey. And if he's going to be a Doctor again, he has to go and face the consequences of his actions...the series ends with him boldly stepping out of the doors to see what his home has become. Cliffhanger before we see it.

Reasons this is superior:
- In the script, Moffat wanted this episode to evoke what the War Doctor might have been like in the war. Sending others to fight, i.e. being the true 'general' as in S8, is a way better take than just "lol he cost someone a regeneration".
- In general it pushes the horror of the post-HS Doctor to a more dramatic extreme, and solves the problems with lack of tension/pace in the escape section.
- It pays off the conceptual weight of Gallifrey's current presence in NuWho, without ignoring 12's emotional arc or the themes from series 9.
- It plays the themes and plot beats in a more deliberate way rather than the slightly mish-mashy fashion we actually got.

I'm new to this show, nearing the end of series 1.

So far i'm on board, but I've come across something that makes little sense.

In the episode 'Boom Town', Jack appears to be telling a humorous story about an experience he had. Now, having just met him this episode, how does Mickey know what Jack is about to say?
>>

You don't have the context. The joke is that we arrive midway through some absurd story we couldn't possibly imagine the details of, maybe Mickey just guessed because he heard the whole story.

TV: Started The Daleks' Master Plan and I'm on episode 4 (The Traitors). I intend to stay up tonight to finish it, but we'll see if that actually happens.

Books: Just finished Doctor Who and the Cave-Monsters. So far it's been one of the longer novelisations, but I thouroughly enjoyed it; it had some interesting chapters written from the Silurian perspective.

Audio: Listened to Red Dawn today. It did NOT go in the direction I thought it would and I may or may not have fallen asleep during episode 2. It wasn't bad, but definitely felt lackluster after The Genocide Machine.

Comics: lol I need to get some. I have zero.

Write ambiguous clues (“I am in 12”) all over the castle, hoping that some might survive the dodgy resetting process like the skulls in the lake, the drying clothes and the dust in the teleport room (as well as the portrait of Clara, which Moffat says the “soppy” Doctor painted himself). In the end the paving slab did make it through the reset, and the Doctor’s mission became a lot easier."

Because the painting being old and cracked and the slab being buried was the state everything was programmed to reset to. At least I think so.

who nose with the painting. perhaps whichever Doctor who painted it found some way to break reset on that object to motivate himself. and some future ones probably did it too cuz' that thing definitely evaporated a few times.

Maybe initially, but she seemed to appreciate Rory more after he was a Roman, the Doctor kind of slipped into this friend-of-the-family role.
>>
>>70795932
Amy had some issues with dependency and insecurity, so she tried to have a fling with the Doctor (before the wedding). The Doctor (wisely) rebuffed her, knowing it was a moment of weakness on her part.

Eventually, she got over it. She always loved Rory anyway, and so the three of them becone great friends. The Doctor had more of a paternal relationship with Amy, which gave it some warmth. Plus, to say Donna can't be his best friend because he was so close with Amy, is like saying Amy can't be his best friend because of Clara, or Ace, or Sarah Jane. The Doctor tends to, in ach incarnation, have close friendships with different people. They don't invalidate each other--if anything, it may have been Amy's similarity to Donna that endeared Amy to the Doctor, but that's going toward headcanon territory.

They're all the Doctor's friends, but in different ways.
>>

>So lads, was the Doctor lowkey in love with Amy or...?

Agree. It's not my favorite Moffat episode but people have retroactively shitted on it after how disappointing the arc ended up being. But if it you take it on its own it was a really BOAT set up.

I should dilike Time of the Doctor. It has a straight-up anticlimactic ending for the Silence arc, and it goes through one of the most interesting parts of 11's life in ten minutes.

But Eleven's ending speech to Clara (and Jenna's wonderful acting with "Please, don't change") is wonderful.

Never tell him the rules, baby.
