Why did Dredd flop?

Saw it yesterday, it's amazing, great visuals, great action, lots of gore and general a fucking badass movie.
>>
>>70741025
inb4 the Raid is better

protip its not
>>
Did it flop? That's a shame. Killer movie. Cinema I'd even say.
>>
Poor marketing
>>
Mostly blamed on lack of promotion.

Also males pirate movies more.
>>
>Hard R-rating
>No marketing
>No big actors
>When most people think of Dredd they think of the shitty 90s Stallone movie

It's a damn shame tough, I agree it was great and would have loved a sequel
>>
no marketing, no name recognition

this probably would have been a very successful movie 10 - 20 years ago in the rental/dvd buying era
>>
Just kind of a hard movie to sell to the general audience unfortunately. No big action star like Stallone either.

It was grokkin awesome though, as a Dress fan I thought it delivered a lot of what I love about the comics. Would make a great Netflix show.

>>
Same reason why Edge of Tomorrow didn't destroy the box office. No one knew it existed due to shit marketing, and it only now gets any recognition and bluray sales because of word of mouth.
>>
Feels like a slightly higher budget of a sci fi channel movie
>>

The part with the mind rape is top cringe.

She is supposed to be a powerful psychic and she is almost over come when she looks into the mind of a fairly run of the mill African american gentle man his brain is so full of fuck.

Its found it fairly racist and i browse /pol/ on the regular.
>>
>>70741140

He's really not. He gets leading roles but most people don't know him.
>>
>>70741163
Edge of tomorrow was pretty forgettable to be honest

did you even watch the movie, she's baiting him into a false sense of security

I disagree familia. Pretty sure it has one of the larger cult followings this decade.

>>

Why is that necessary when she is a powerful psychic. He should have no defense.

He also seems to be aware that his powerful sexuality has over powered her. It was all just awful no matter how its framed.
>>

What cult following?
>>
>>70741284
>>70741284

what what? i think you need to watch it again, if anything, she let him think that he was in control because right after, she totally mind fucked him to the point where he pissed himself!

Me
>>

> He should have no defense.

you're making assumptions. Obviously the average person is not totally helpless against a psychic or she would have just mind fucked him from the beginning.
>>
>>70741410
I'm with you Anon, but I know it from premium cable.
>>
>>70741284
also this is like saying if a boxer fights an amateur fighter, the pro should immedietly knock him out. Thats retarded, no matter how untrained someone is, they can still throw their hands and carelessness will get the other person knocked out. All footage you see of a pro fighting an untrained person goes the same way, the pro dodges a few wild punches and lulls the other person in a false sense of security by being on the defensive, then deals a knockout blow or a barrage that wins them the fight
>>
bad marketing and it was originally named DREDD 3D or DR3DD or some shit when the 3d meme was dieing so everybody figured it would suck
>>
>>70741025

Love how you listed literally everything a plebeian 14 year old looks for in a film.

This is why it flopped.

It's genrefaggotry for pre-pubescant teens
>>
Poor marketing and limited 2D release.
>>
>>70741523

No one knew it existed. The only reason I saw it is because my friends and I were at the theater, we saw the poster, and said "fuck it let's see what this is"
>>
>>70741172
>Feels like a slightly higher budget of a sci fi channel movie

This!

Was fucking disappointing, when will the fucking moron producers realize that if you are going to tell a Dredd story, it either needs to be a MASSIVE scale block war or a Judge Death storyline, this time with a hot Judge Anderson who actually looks the part.

It's a good movie, OP, but you don't need to make things up.
Dredd flopped because of almost no marketing and a lack of big name stars.
>>
>attempted murder of a judge
>the sentence is DEATH

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUJkwWkyX70
>>
>>70741659
Nah It's just the film was terrible. It didn't 'feel' like it had any connection to the franchise it was based off of.
>>
>>70741025
Its a British film based on a British comic, it also doesn't have any high profile stars in the leading role, which is the only reason the first one was released in the 90s because they had Stallone. People in the states still remember the original one too, which was a really weak film, they didn't want another one in the states
>>
Sentence is death
>>
>>70741659
Are you implying one can't enjoy both?
>>
Shit screenplay and writing, vanilla directing and overall dull cinematography, horrible 'actors' like Urban or Lena.
>>

Britfag here, I just want to say that I enjoyed it, that is all.
>>
>>70741025

It was barely advertised, I was the one of only 5 people in the screening when I saw it

>>70743879
I actually got a rental copy once it came out on DVD, that was the only time I watched it.
>>
>>70741025
It was simply too good for the usual capeshit. People were looking for more Emo Batman nonsense and SJW, so the authoritarian, fascist-dystopic figure of Dredd was not of their liking
>>
>>70743396
I love that line. To most people, what Dredd and Anderson experienced would have been hellish. To Dredd, it's just another day on the job.
>>
>>70741025
terrible, terrible marketing
like the fact that it was exclusively promoted as "Dredd 3D" and it was extremely hard to find 2D showings

I think "Day in the life of" when concerning action stars is hard for most audiences. You think about most action films, we fucking know the protagonist inside and out before that 80 minute movie is up. We know the why, who and how in short constructed ways so we can easily pass off then next 60 minutes as "oh he can do that because THIS."

Dredd didnt have that, we took what we could from what they gave us, and to an audience expecting a "no think" action movie, that's a lot to ask for.

Also Karl is my husbano.

Marketing was shit but I was still planning on seeing it. 2 weeks after release it was pulled from my local theatre. Didn't end up watching Dredd until it came out on DVD.

Raid is way better. Like in the next category better.

More fidelity to the action scenes, no fucking CGI reliance, much more suffocating and better fight choreography.

I love Dredd, but it is a pale shadow compared to The Raid.
>>
>>70758514
The Raid was fun at the time but forgettable. Sorry. Only weebs and that type actually believe the 'The Raid is better' meme.
>>
>>70741025
Public doesn't like male hero/female villain, especially when she loses as fantastically as she did.
>>
>>70755443

That'd be pretty cool. Urban seems like a decent actor who just never seems to get into a successful role. He's like the anti-Keanu.
>>

That's good if you like ballet.
Gun fights are bullshit too, but they're slightly closer to reality.
>>
>>70758505
What was his quote about the price is freedom?
>>
>>70758624
Dredd was more forgetabble.

Moments like the 2 on 1 fight or the machete fight are usuals in top whatever fight scenes.

Plus thats why Raid did so well despite being starred by literal no names as far as overseeas audiences goes.

Not even a semi known brand recognition helped Dreed.,
>>
>>70746501
The stallone movie was as cheesy as the original comics, the only thing this new movie got right was Dredd himself.

>>70741041
I feel like Raid fans are only one step above Expendables fans. The initial premise is great. Some dick head chief sends a bunch of honest cops into an overwhelming suicidal mission that they have to fight their way out of. Execution is just bad.
>>
>>70760122
>Execution is just bad.
Nah its great.

Why?

It didnt bomb like your precious Dreed.
>>
Bad marketing, stigma from the previous film, no A-list actors though Urban has been in a lot of stuff are probably the main reasons it flopped, but mostly the marketing. I'm sure it's been said a hundred times already too.

I didn't watch it till about a year or two ago. Upon release I thought it looked dumb and never gave it a chance and boy was I wrong. I fucking love it. I actually just watched it yesterday. The only problem I have with it is the CGI blood is a little silly and looks kinda shitty but the whole ultra-violence aspect was good though so it's a trade off. Really fun movie imo.
