>creators Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski emulated the Burton films' "otherworldly timelessness," incorporating period features such as black-and-white title cards, police blimps (though no such thing existed, Timm has stated that he found it to fit the show's style) and a "vintage" color scheme with film noir flourishes.[12]

>Radomski issued a standing order to the animation department that all backgrounds be painted using light colors on black paper (as opposed to the industry standard of dark colors on white paper).[12] The distinctive visual combination of "noir" imagery and Art Deco design was dubbed "Dark Deco" by the producers.[14]

Now that you mention, I can't think of any Marvel cartoons that were comparable. Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Spectacular Spider-man were pretty good. Unfortunately neither lasted long enough to get to that level before they were canned. Still kinda annoyed about how EMH got screwed just to push another Avengers show that wasn't even that good

Wolverine and the X-Men was pretty good too being also written by Kyle and Yost yet fell into cancellation too soon as well.

They did consider Spectacular to be part of their universe along with Wolverine and EMH. Josh Keaton was even supposed to voice Spidey in EMH but then Loeb being the genius he is replaced him with Drake fucking Bell.

I also enjoy how not only did EMH get cancelled for assemble but Loeb and Man of Action had to make the second half of it's second season suck so hard.

I'm still a little mad

BTAS really is one of the greatest animated series of all time
>>
>>70730800
Nope, it got cancelled. Heard it was because the new exec who took over at the time "didn't get it" or something. Think that was during the live action era that was going on at the time. I remember hearing talks about it getting a continuation on /co/ like a year ago but that fell through.

>>70730809
This movie is really underappreciated
>>
BTAS is episodic, right? That really takes away from my interest in watching it. I feel like a truly quality superhero show will always benefit from an organized plot structure.

>>
>>70730968
Eh, BTAS is sort of episodic and sort of serialized. Things change and characters develop and come back, but generally its a "crime of the week" format, but that makes sense for Batman. He doesn't need a big climax or to save the city moment. He's a detective, and the show relies on that.
>>
>>70731036
>good animated choreographed fights
You have a point because the fight scenes were actually really good compared to most other animated shows. That's about the only good thing I can say about it though.
>>
>>70730986
Max comfy while still having a plot. Fight scenes are solid, the world is well defined and there isn't a lot of stupid bullshit that doesn't go anywhere
>>
>>70729851
Unlike Marvel, DC has expectations to fulfill. Everyone expects only the best from DC seeing as they conquered every medium at one time or another. Having to work with icons is a blessing & a curse. Marvel had plenty of leg room to do whatever they wanted because expectations are low.
>>

>>
>>70731040

>>
>>70731081

>>
>>70727398
It's young justice worth watching?
>>
>>70731040
Because studio clowns think kids are literal retard who can't even pay attention to dialogue. I mean, The Dee Dees call her "Grammy Harley" and she has the same voice actress but Oh! that's too complex for kids.
The treason BTAS, STAS, and the whole of the DCAU retained its acclaim and why fans still love it is that it doesn't talk down to the audience. Generally, the writers were smart enough to realize kids can follow a story autisically if it is engaging enough.
>>
>>70731190

No because Batmans villians are all more human and therefore dont need to destroy the city/world to be relevant

Robbing a bank is enough

Some of the fight scenes I've seen from Avatar and Korra suffer from a problem: they are actually too smooth, which is a feature common to Western animation. The actions are perfectly even and smoooth, and the camera work is conservative so that we may clearly see every detail of what's happening. Anime, by contrast, varies the framerate a lot so that the actions are appropriately fast and snappy, and the camera work is more dynamic and inventive.

Though I do think the fight scenes in Avatar/Korra are longer in length than what you usually see in anime. It's not because of budget per se, but because there is more time. American shows tend to spend 9 months on each episode (even if it's something simple like Steven Universe), while some anime can actually be produced from start to finish in the same time.

what's so great is that's how the series ends. Sure they wanted another season out of it but it's premise was eventually taken to JL Unlimited with the Cadmus arc. That realization though, that look on Supes' face was such a poignant end. The fact that even Superman looses was so good.

i knew a girl who was into this show. it seems most of them liked it because it was the only cartoon that had a drama-heavy plot with long running story arcs and complex, evolving relationships between characters. it didnt do any of these things spectacularly well, but it had basically no competition since all other cartoons were very light on drama and had essentially static settings where the characters and their relationships never changed. also, katara was a very well designed self-insert character for the sort of girl who watched this show; they all identified with her. whoever created the character really knew their demographic

you shut your whore mouth. JLU was great. The additional cast let them do a lot of plots that otherwise would have never seen the light of day, and the myth arc is the greatest who watches the watchmen type plot. And yes, I'm including Watchmen in that category.

That fucking booster gold episode, and any episode featuring The Question are top tier television.

Can I just say about the Batman Animated Series:

How fucking cool is it that it that the show's intro never showed a title like THE NEW ADVENTURES OF BATMAN AND ROBIN.

It was just all iconic and visual. It's an amazing series and holds up really well.

I watched this for the first time a week ago after hearing how good it was for years, and was disappointed to see that it was just a 90 minute long episode. And as far as episodes go, it was good but I was half expecting it to avoid some of the cliches and other things that I don't like from the series.

I created a thread here once asking for the top episodes and they really weren't good.

It seemed nostalgia and the overall tone might make this Peak Comfy for people, but it really felt like it was missing some manly adventuring, detective stuff, weird scary criminality, physicality and brutality, a cool Bruce (he really came off as bumbling smiling fool at times). Everything is very 90s cartoon in characterization, misenscene, ways characters come in and out etc.

I tried keeping an open mind and was looking foward to something that could be dark and serious but wasn't a caricature of grim & gritty and could have a wider spectrum of aesthetics, feelings, storylines etc but it was disappointing
>>
>>70737707
Anything early 90's-2000's Scooby Doo was pretty good imo

I thought the camera work was fine and movement was fast and well paced. I don't get why you use 'smoothness' as a criticism, it's something animation should strive to achieve. I don't think I've so far seen well choreographed fight scenes of this quality anime TV series and only in some anime movies.

Also Legend of Korra was animated by Japanese as well at some points. If I recall correctly during those episodes the animation quality dropped compared to the Koreans animation quality.

I'm surprised Police blimps aren't a thing. In NYC we occasionally get helicopters circling with a spotlight looking for some runners. With a blimp, they could just remain stationary and not wake up the neighborhood, probably save money on fuel and it just looks cooler.

>With a blimp, they could just remain stationary and not wake up the neighborhood

So there was this weird cartoon with some government (I think?) operatives, I think it had aliens and weird diseases, it was on fox kids. At one point there was a disease that turned people into alien cocoons or something.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Animation was 90s X-Men and Spiderman TAS style.
It wasn't MIB.
>>
>>70739903
>I'm surprised Police blimps aren't a thing.

The max speed of a blimp is 50 mph, hardly fast enough to get to a location where something is going on (to contrast, helicpoters are twice that speed and don't pic related.)
