Is /tv/ hype about this? Could it be Spielberg's next great movie? He got Gene Wilder out of retirement for it.
>>
That book fucking sucked. Holy shit it was bad. "What if children ruled the world and being a child was the most important thing ever."

No, the book was shit

No. Did you read the book? I think there's a very high chance this'll be the worst film he ever makes

The book is everything /tv/ hates. It'll make a billion easy.

Probably
This board has become pleb fucking central
>>
>sword art online ripoff by a gaijin

no
>>
The book was written with the intent of it being turned into a film. This doesn't say anything about the quality of the finished product itself, but rather that it's very filmable and thus harder to mess up.
>>
>>70724888

Well, yeah. The mere fact that it's a popular, acclaimed novel will make most of the hipster scum that inhabits this board turn their nose up at it.
>>
>>70724930
There has never been any moments in /tv/s history were it wasn't any more than pleb central. Take off your nostalgia goggles.
>>
>>70725054
Thats probably because you were too busy crying about waifu posters and how the patricians wouldn't let you discuss Fincher and Tarantino in the film threads

The book is unreadable

>>
>>70725117
We never had film threads worthy of the name, and we don't have patricians worthy of that name either. It's all just a bunch of pretenders lying to eachother.

just because none of you faggots are old enough to have grown up and experienced the 80s, you just dont understand the book, unlike me and >>70726627 who are old enough to be your dads. let me tell you faggots, that this book is brillant. it makes you experience the 80s and 90s in a futuristic setting like a modern tron. and the author mentions pop cultural important stuff nearly every sentence. its like a wet dream for people like us who never had a real childhood and live inside our nostalgia.

all you faggots who hate it are just autistic hipsters.

The casting looks like shit though. Ready Player One is about basement dwellers becoming heroes, yet they've got supermodels playing them.

Parzival is fat and ugly yet they got a teen model playing him. Should have cast that fat jew kid from Hot Tub Time Machine.
Art3mis is short and thick yet another teen model with no tits is playing her. Should have went with Ariel Winter.
Og is basically Jeff Bridges but instead of casting him they went with that mick from that Reddit of the Dead movie is playing him and he's a fucking manlet.

>>
>>70731979

Don't be ridiculous. If they actually liked those things, then they'd never want to do anything with them. They'd put those things up on the shelf like treasured possessions, only dusting them off once in awhile.

Don't you know anything? TRUE fans want the things that they like to stay completely separate and away from anyone else. And they certainly don't want to share those things or get other people to enjoy them!

You’re something called a ‘human being.’ That’s a really smart kind of animal. Like every other animal on this planet, we’re descended from a single-celled organism that lived millions of years ago. This happened by a process called evolution, and you’ll learn more about it But trust me, that’s really how we all got here. There’s proof of it everywhere, buried in the rocks. That story you heard? About how we were all created by a super-powerful dude named God who lives up in the sky? Total bullshit. The whole God thing is actually an ancient fairy tale that people have been telling one another for thousands of years. We made it all up. He won't. No references to anything he was involved in at all.

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Steven-Spielberg-Already-Cutting-Something-Big-Out-Ready-Player-One-87817.html

>"The movie won’t have any of my films in it. I’m not putting myself in this movie…They reference so many ’80s movies. I’m doing the whole pop culture thing. I’m just going to leave myself out of it. I can’t do that. Too self-referential."

>And this isn’t just Spielberg’s directorial output he’s talking about. There won’t be any references to the like of Jaws and the Indiana Jones movies, but he’s also apparently removing any nods the films he worked on in other capacities as well. So, don’t expect to hear much about DeLoreans and Back to the Future, or the Fratellis, One-Eyed Willie, or the rest of The Goonies.

>>70731529

Having Spielberg's name on it will open a lot of doors, but yeah, a lot of the Japanese stuff I'm really wondering if/how they're going to get the rights.

Spoiler for the book: Climactic battle features the main character becoming Ultraman and fighting the bad guy, who is controlling Mechagodzilla. I don't know if the companies who control those two properties will be cool with having them battle in an American film.
>>
>>70733977
1. You need to learn what acclaimed means
2. Almost all of those are anti-Christian specifically or anti-religion in general
>>
>>70734053

>m-m-muh Christian persecution

Inherent Vice had nothing to do with any sort of religion, No Country for Old Men was very in tune with absolute morality with its depiction of the man who keeps his word and atunes himself towards a sense of right and wrong versus someone who has no moral compass and reacts with cowardice towards changing tides, and the Road's entire message was keeping true to your humanity at all costs in a world that's gone completely hay-wire.

Those three alone are some of the highest acclaimed and most highly regarded books of the twenty-first century. And even if they were anti-Christianity in any way shape or form, so fucking what? Get off your fucking cross. More than eighty percent of the American continent ascribes themselves to your world view. Grow up and stop pretending that you're about to be thrown to the fucking lions, which didn't happen the way that your persecution complex insisted that it did.

Not to mention that the entire narrative of Twilight skewed itself towards traditional marriage and preserving virginity prior to wedlock, and was written by an incredibly devout Mormon. Meanwhile, Harry Potter couldn't be more in tune with Christian themes of redemption, atonement for sin, the saving grace of innocence, and traditional themes of good versus evil.
>>
>>70734170
All 3 are anti-Christian actually, and the fact that you immediately try and back pedal with saying "well that doesn't matter!" proves you know that. There's no point in continuing a conversation with a demonstrated liar.

>>70734254
