This happened to my unit. We all starting falling apart, for one month in 2005 our unit had more drug-use (soldiers failing drug tests) than any other battalion in the army.

Mostly weed. But we had morphine, coke and even heroin in the barracks at times as well. One thing I'll never forget is when our NCOs started to crack -

We had this prior Marine Corps Staff Sergeant who was really loved by all the soldiers. A really tough but fair guy who had a reputation of keeping us from having to do some of the total BS orders from battalion command. Well one friday afternoon an hour after we got dismissed for the weekend he just shows up in the barracks (he's a married man). Walks into one of the party rooms, sits down on the couch doesn't say a word and snorts a line off of the coffee table in front of him. Then leaves.

It was a fucking depressing time. I can't even explain it. Morale was just absolute rock-bottom.
>>
>>70721541
So I'm assuming I shouldn't enlist right now huh?
>>
>>70721581
Here's the truth that no one will tell you. You have a 50/50 chance of getting some total nut-job NCO or commissioned officer as your supervisor. And what he says you to do are bound by federal law to obey.

Even if you pick some comfy job you still run that chance of having a complete psychopath running your life. But the overall experience you get from being the military life can't be properly explained. You will have 5 times the self-confidence that your average civilian will have. And getting paid to be a professional warrior and shoot things/blow things up is a pretty great feeling.

The reality is that military life is 80% redundant government bullshit and 20% actual training/asskicking. Honestly, I'd say go for it, just aim for a job like satellite communications or something.

it's not confusing, it's just willingly incoherent
so most likely if you weren't paying attention you thought you lost the plot when there wasn't any
it's less about following a narrative and more about seeing the recurring themes, recognizing the references and engaging emotionally with the underlying drama

It's in part a retelling of the book of Job and also Malicks reflections on his own brothers death at a young age. The themes are pretty much universal and the film looks incredible. To call it pretentious is a mistake, because Malick is an extremely sincere film maker. He creates the film he wants to create, and it's usually a reflection of his own beliefs and philosophies.

That ending just completely blindsided me, even right up to the credits.

I feel painfully stupid for it.

Imagine being The Key Maker in that scene and having to be all like "damn, Carrie-Anne Moss, you fuckin' fine, all sexy with your tight body and horrific leathery fart anus. I would totally have sex with you, both my character and the real me." when all he really wants to do is fuck another 16 year old in his dressing room. Like seriously imagine having to be The Key Maker and not only just stand there while Carrie-Anne Moss flaunts her disgusting body in front of you, the favorable lighting barely concealing her unflattering body in that leather suit , and just stand there, take after take, hour after hour, while she perfected little hop on to the bike. Not only having to tolerate her monstrous fucking visage but her haughty attitude as everyone on set tells her she's STILL GOT IT and DAMN, CARRIE-ANNE MOSS LOOKS LIKE *THAT*?? because they're not the ones who have to sit there and watch her ugly ass repeatedly go back and forth off that bike. You've been fucking nothing but a healthy diet of Underage Chinese girls and later alleged rape victims for your ENTIRE CAREER coming straight out of the boonies in east Asia. You've never even seen anything this fucking disgusting before, and now you swear you can taste the sweat that's breaking out on her dimpled ass as she asks you to "hop on", smugly assured that you are enjoying the opportunity to get paid to stand there and revel in her "beauty", the beauty she worked so hard for with personal trainers in the previous months. And then the director calls for another take, and you know you could kill every single person in this room before the studio security could put you down, but you sit there and endure, because you're the fucking Key Maker. You're not going to lose over this. Just bear it. Hide your face and bear it.

The Hunt (Theo accepts the truth)
Force Majeure (Klara crying, the dog, several scenes but mainly Tomas' breakdown with the kids being upset)
Robocop (surgery flashbacks, "Can you do that Dad?)

Max was the closest thing to a friend Vincent ever had. Basically his entire life was a meaningless void where nothing he did had any purpose. He lived only for his work which consisted entirely of him murdering people he didn't know for reasons he didn't care about.

This only stands out to me because I felt weirdly like shit for a few hours in the aftermath. More than I usually do after movies that are actually hard-hitting and sad. I still can't figure out what got me.
