Ramsay should have died shortly after Theon escaped.
His character works best and I suspect was only injected into the story as a foil to Theon. In terms of his thematic purpose in the story he seems to be a manifestation of Theon's insecurities and darker half. He's his polar opposite in many fundamental ways, whilst also being eerily similar to him in terms of interests and outlook.
Once Theon however overcomes his trauma and finds the courage to escape he has grown and changed and become a better person. There is no reason for the manifestation of the old Theon to still be around.

In the books, Ramsay is basically only there to develop Theon. He's a completely flat character that we only see through the eyes of Theon and it's pretty clear he's going to bite it in TWOW.

Euron is going to become the Night's King in the books, which is something totally different from the Night King of the show. Night King is icy Darth Maul who leads the walkers; Night's King is a fully human person who marries a white walker and declares himself king of everything. Euron is going to bring down the Wall, hitch up with a sexy lady ice demon, and be the Final Boss.
The show's going to have the Wall come down via Bran's mark instead, and then they're going to give the Night's King plot to Ramsay. It's the only conceivable reason they've built up his character so goddamn much over the last few seasons.
