When it doesn't feel like it's been forced to pander to black audiences. Unfortunately, the vast majority do, because it's usually the case.
Morpheus did an okay job at Jack Crawford in the Hannibal series, even if it did feel like they made him and Bella black because, "Hey, let's shake things up and make some people black," and they butchered Crawfords character. Morpheus is a decent actor, though, so he pulled it off.
