The problem with warcraft is when you make half the characters wizards/warlocks, and make them monstrously overpowered, people wonder why everyone isn't just a wizard, and/or why the wizards don't just firebomb the orcish horde from the back of their flying fucking gryphons.
Conversely, when you protray magic as something messy and just about impossible to control (GoT) with a large number of people flailing wildly to even use it at all, then show massive consequences to it's use, you engage with audiences.
