What's your fav of 2016 so far ?
>>70647462
haven't watched anything from this year, except desierto and hush, both were pieces of shit
wbu OP?
>>70647574
my top pick is Kaili blues, although i liked Elle and Neon demon a lot too.
>>70647634
i think kaili blues is showing at my theatre, isn't it 2015 though?
i'm dying to see after the storm and the neon demon btw
>>70647701
i think it's 2015 just for festivals.
Sadly i didn't see any screenings for after the storm at my local cinemas
>tfw when Batman V Superman is the 3rd best film I've seen of 2016 so far
What the fuck is going on this year?Triple 9 and Midnight Special are my 1st and 2nd favourites, respectfully
>>70648151
maybe the second half will be better than the first.
>>70647462
haven't seen very many films from this year, but out of what i have seen, i have to go with GREEN ROOM
>>70647485
>>70648540
Go back to /tv/ plebs. This is /film/ country.
>>70648563
i mean this guy >>70648540
has mizoguchi and yang on his chart so it's not that bad, but you're kinda right, these threads should be for people with a higher understanding of the medium
>>70648637
there's no Yang on that chart
but i'm actually downloading A BRIGHTER SUMMER DAY right now to take some screenshots, and will probably replace PACIFIC RIM with it
>>70648563
>>70648637
I'm not either of those guys, but 3x3 threads are supposed to be a place for actual film discussion
They're not a place for elitists to circlejerk over the most obscure films released in a given year
As long as the discussion goes beyond blockbusters and fedora-core, it's doing its job
>>70649050
but this is blockbuster and fedora core>>70647462
and this
>>70648151
>>70649186
didn't mean >>70647462
i meant
>>70647485
>>70649050
Christ you're insufferable
Post your own movies if you're going to nitpick everyone else's charts and discuss nothing
3x3 for this year, or just what we've been watching?
>>70649342
whatever you like
your favs or whatever
>>70647485
do you ever contribute to thread?
every time i see this post all i see is >r8
>>70579658 archived before i could reply
will do fampai and it was the stories mainly
there were some nice shots in stray dog
>>70649426
forgot to post my 3x3
>>70649467
Literally no idea what most of these are
>>70649467
no problem my man, i just don't consider kurosawa anything great, and i think winter light and persona are kinda the weakest 60's bergman films
have you watched autumn sonata or the virgin spring?
also where would you rank nosthalgia among tark's other films?
for me it goes
nosthalgia>zerkalo>andrei rublev>then the rest don't matter, but offret or ivan's childhood would be last
>>70649550
literally watch more films
>>70649426
I contribute by sharing my invaluable taste, and you should be fucking thankful.
>>70649467
fucking retards who use stills...
Just put posters you autist, this is not conceptualart.org.
>>70649669
What I mean was, I wasn't able to guess which films they were solely from the stills. My visual memory is a lot poorer than it used to be
>>70649784
This
If you tell me the name of the movie, I'll probably remember it. I've seen most of Berman's and Tartovsky's movies, I assume a few of the stills are from them since you talked about them in your previous post
My nine favorite films.
>>70649550
tree of life
damnation
2001: a space odyssey
stray dog
winter light
a touch of evil
the third man
the master
ivan's childhood
>>70649683
>>70649784
wew
>>70649669
well i've only seen a few films from jap new wave like kurosawa suzuki and ozu
I have seen virgin spring and it was a good watch
I have only seen 2 of tark's films i'm afraid
the mirror is the other
do you have a chart?
>>70649898
Just wondering, did you grow up in the 80s?
>>70649846
tree of life
damnation
2001
stray dog
winter light
touch of evil (i think)
the third man
the master
ivans childhood
all of them are recognizable if you've watched the film except for the third man and touch of evil stills
ask for titles don't just post
>i don't know what this is lel
>>70649898
More like nine favorite flicks lmao
>>70649997
Fair play
Lol idk isn't the best way of asking something
>>70649956
Thanks bb
>>70649997
>go out of your way by asking for titles in order to please my attention whoring
yeah, no. Just use posters.
>>70650108

ITT: reddit
Shit, sure is a different crowd than normal here today. That's great when we get a bunch of new charts, but today is not that. These threads are supposed to be chill, just relax and have some fun discussing film.
>>70650324
what do you like about tree of life?
>>70650324
idk where julien donkey boy anon is either:(
>>70650354
the sex scene
>>70650324
These threads are terrible. It's just a big circlejerk and your charts are just tripcodes in disguise.
>>70650354
Different poster but nothing
I thought Tree of Life was one of Malick's worst movies. Thin Red Line and Days of Heaven were leagues better (so was extended New World, actually), Badlands is still his apex.
Also I was more impressed by Barry Lyndon than 2001
This mosaic shit is killing me senpai
Had to upload photos to facebook
Now have to register to use them
Why don't you just use topsters? They let you upload any pictures you want
>>70650354
Maybe it's because I too grew up in Texas, but it connected a lot emotionally. On a basic level, it's an interesting and compelling look at a family's relationship with each other and with their own spirituality. It's a gorgeous movie, obviously, and the music is god-tier. Beyond that, into the more philosophical stuff, I find it harder to explain why it connected to me, but it really is one of the most moving films I've seen
>>70649960
Yep. Born in 1976.
>>70650435
Tree of life is in my chart lol so obv i think it's his best, what makes you say that though anon
i'm >>70649467
>>70650505
wot? U don't need to register, u just put some url and save the image
>>70649300
>call out someone acting like an arrogant cunt and complaining while not posting any movies
>"omg stop complaining, post your own movies"
>no irony present
wew lad
>>70650563
You've got interesting taste but it's definitely ground in that era
>>70650576
Ohh
And it was visually stunning, I never liked when Malick got philosophical. I think he's a lot more profound just creating the same emotional effects about real-life things, it just feels more substantive and interesting to me. Probably personal preference though, that's why Badlands is my top for him
>>70650623
>>70650833
did you not enjoy knight of cups much either then?
>>70649898
nice
>>70647485
shaolin soccer is gud
>>70647462
Can I count Arabian Nights? I'd say that or Paths of the Soul since they released in theaters around me this year
Mosaic thing turned out pretty fucked, hard to tell what some of them are
>Top middle is Carlos miniseries, counts as a movie to me
>Top right is Ghost Dog
>Middle Right is Badlands
>Middle-middle is Edvard Munch
>Middle-bottom is Killing of a Chinese Bookie
Also I'm >>70650435 this guy
>>70650324
How much did you actually like the Master and Inherent Vice? I loved the opening to the Master but didn't like it after Pheonix's and Hoffman's characters had the homebrew drinking scene. Thought Inherent Vice was good, but not great
>>70651098
Actually haven't seen it
Probably should
What'd you think of it? I still enjoyed watching Tree of Life even if I had my own biases going into it, think I'd like Knight?
>>70651194
>>70651198
>ghost dog
noice
>>70651319
>>70651194
My nigga
Also, do you have any good recs for Japanese directors? Right now all I really know is Kurosawa and Takeshi
>>70651380
gonna go with the obvious ozu & mizoguchi.
I like the films i've seen of naomi kawase, but that's more recent and personnal.
>>70651194
What's the middle one?
>>70649956
trying not to be too pedantic, but ozu and kurosawa aren't new wave, they're golden age directors whose careers (to diff extents) bled into the new wave era
the JNW kicked off with Oshima and Kurahara, and Oshima notoriously hated Ozu for a while for being too traditional (readings of Ozu today are not consistent with this view)
based on your 3x3 you'd probably be more interested in the more aesthetically minded NW-ers, as well as mizoguchi
>>70651380
Love Japanese cinema, favorite is Ozu but his movies are nothing like those you listed.
for more crime style films - suzuki, early oshima, kurhara, imamura, early kobayashi
more modern stuff - kiyoshi kurosawa, naomi kawase, ishii, aoyama
classic directors - naruse, mizoguchi, shinoda, shindo, ichikawa
>>70651488
late spring (ozu)
>>70651688
jesus christ i want to sucker punch your smug face
>>70651281
oh yeah
I still can't gather the story though, but it just looks great
i don't have a cinigrid for it though :(
>>70651439
Thanks, I'll probably start with Ozu. Why do you like Kawase so much?
>>70651537
Holy shit thanks
I'll be set for the summer now
>>70651688
Might like Edvard Munch, it's a slighty surreal, very psychological documentary. Has weird touches like using actual working class kids for the factory workers in it. One of the few films I've seen besides Barry Lyndon that really felt like stepping into history
Also watch Virgin Suicides, it's bretty fun and Kirsten Dunst is maximum qt
>>70651758
Kek
>>70651867
Virgin suicides fun ? kek i don't remember it that way.
I like kawase coz her films are beautifull and a tad bit dreamy yet very real
where's julien donkey anon tho
>>70652002
prolly not there, he shows up earlier usually
next thread surely he'll come
>>70651955
Ssh I was trying to mislead him
And that's the same way I'd describe my favorite movie of all time, might actually start with her instead
