It's not as bad as some critics say but it's not good either. The film tries very hard to be epic with plenty of special effects. Sometimes it hits sometimes it misses. There is something strange in the way it's filmed as well that make some scenes looks cheap and out of place. And the acting is bad. like really fucking bad. It's stil entertaining because it's Warcraft but it's clearly not what I'd call a good movie. And after having watched it I can't understand why they didn't do it entirely in 3D. I just saw it... it was BAD. I've heard people say "it's for the fans, the fans will like it" well I've been playing warcraft games for close to 15 years now, it was still BAD.
Bad acting, cringy dialogue, NOTHING is explained, they just introduce characters/concepts/plot elements every single minute and just roll with them without properly establishing them in the overarching story. Coming from someone who knows the games, it is still confusing so I can't even imagine what a normal viewer might feel.
It's just a badly written mess, there could have been a good Warcraft movie with the budget these guys must have spent and the director involved but these people just took the worst parts from the Warcraft setting and just took it waaaaaayyyy too seriously for how campy and cartoony Warcraft really is.
They changed a lot of things for no reason too, like, characters who die in the first game still live on in this, other characters die in different ways and many things happen differently/don't happen at all...but it's all for nothing, the changes add nothing worthwhile dramatically and some plotlines go nowhere really really fast.
One thing they did get right is the orcs being wayyy cooler than the humans, with their stupid fucking plastic armors, inaction and blandness still intact from the games.

I don't think the first movie should be about something else. Wow has been building up gradually. I like that they kept it as it was originally in terms of knowledge of the world. First it was orcs vs humans while not really knowing why and what are orcs. Then you get to know more about why and where from the orcs are. Nobody would go and see it if it wasn't the iconic orc vs human. I hope they plan to make a pre-quel though.
Also on the lore changes, I'm pretty sad about such big changes but I understand that you need to change it so it's easier to form into a movie. The war not really being a war pissed me off though.

The more I think about it, the more I realise how awfully the Warcraft story translates to a movie. It's either too simple or way too much going on to realistically and justifiably cover it all in a movie. How the fuck would you make a movie of everything going on in Warcraft 3? And would you make the frozen throne story into it's own movie?
The way Warcraft's story plays out makes all Warcraft movies doomed from the start really. There's only so much you can do with a Warcraft before the realisation kicks in that it's a story that just can't be told with a movie. Like all video game movies really.
