Getting a little sick of seeing everyone claim that "If you have an interest in Warcraft you'll love it".
I played WoW for 8 years, saw the film, and found it to be trash. I know of at least 6 other friends who are in the same boat and feel the same way after seeing it.

Even a lot of the Warcraft "fans" are really not liking it. It seems to mostly be the Blizzdrones who bought their ticket around the same time as they pre-ordered Overtrash for $60 that are defending it to the hills.

>>70621278
Just watched it. It was decent, but nothing special. Warcraft really doesn't translate into film well, regardless what they may have done, it's just too cartoony. Definitely can see how people are saying it felt rushed. The scenes involving Gul'Dan and fel magic were pretty cool though.
>>
it's so poorly made, I don't even know how to feel
>>
>>70626501
there it is
>>
>>70621278

It's pretty bad. I was hoping it was going to be great but the story pacing is horrible and so is the character development. It changes scenes seemingly randomly, almost like a bad dream. Non-Warcraft fans won't even be able to understand any of it because they keep referencing stuff with no explanation.

Visuals are cool, that's about it. I hope for the next movie they look at story pacing, character development and the overall flow between scenes. As a Warcraft fan, this movie was pretty crap and they could've done A LOT better. I felt like they were trying to amaze the audience with too much fancy CGI and didn't think about actually putting a coherent story in there.

>"Get him to Goldshire"

Why did they introduce Llane in Goldshire? Why would the king be in Goldshire and not in Stormwind? Was it really just because of le epic WoW maymay?
>>
for those who saw it, how can people say that people that don't play the game will not understand the story?

>green stuff is evil
>orc dindu
>humans are in peace with the other races
>orcs arrive
>fights
>plot twist
>some sequel baiting stuff happens
>the end
>>
>>70627296

The story IS basic but it's not told well. Garona gets captured -> second later she's best buds with the alliance. Lothar meets Khadgar in the barracks -> second later they're in Kharazan and we have no idea who these people are. You know OF them in the lore but we have no connection to them in the movie universe.

It's a disjointed mess and takes you out of the experience. Some of it just doesn't make sense either. Honestly, the movie would've done well with some exposition explaining the titans and what not and the beginning of the world or some shit. It was hard to connect to such a bland and badly edited movie. I can't even imagine how uninteresting it must've been for someone who's not familiar with Warcraft at all.

Objectively, this movie misses the mark on a lot of basic fronts.

>>70627676
I didn't play the games anon. I get what you are saying the story and I agree, it is told badly as fuck, but you can connect a to b, even though you shouldn't, like that jail scene with Garona and Lothar. I went to the movies with some normie friends and two of them really liked the movie as a fun, popcorn flick, nothing else.

Eh, I don't know, felt good to watch a huge movie that wasn't capeshit related and I left the movie theater thinking that I should watch some good corny fantasy movies like Krull and Beastmaster again

>>
>>70627828

It definitely had it good parts. I don't think it deserves the 18% rating on RT, more like 30-40%. You can connect a to b for sure but you really shouldn't like you said. It's not good storytelling if you keep having to fill up the blanks. You keep going "wait now we're here? oh so that happened, I guess". People end up not caring about your story if people are expected to make up half of it.

All these disjointed scenes would have way more impact if it had decent character development and better story flow. If there is a next movie, I hope they focus on that.

I'm kinda mad about some things in the movie, but mostly that it felt too rushed, it ended badly, too.
I mean, Stormwind didn't fall, that's one of the biggest things from the first war: They lost it. HARD, and they ended the movie so fast that it didn't seem like it, the last battle should've been at stormwind
The shadow council should've appeared too, at least to give some exposition on the curse of blood and on the burning legion.
As everyone said already: If you didn't know the lore already, you were pretty fucked

The thing is, even if 40 minutes was cut (as seems to be the case), logic tells you that the 40 minutes was deemed not as important as the footage that was left in the finished product. As such, it's not going to turn a 2/10 failure into a pass or better, as some are trying to imply.

Dalaran to get answers

It was Medihvs mother

Because she faught the fel already and her baby was born with it because of it

Because he didn't like their rules

Because the kirin tor like most people in azeroth mind their own business until it affects them

not sure what you're talkin about

Medivh and Garona fuck and have a child

She's half Draeni which is why she speaks their language

Because dude she's hot as fuck my dick tingled the whole time

Wow wiki will have lothars story

He leads the military under the king

Because in the game he gets a gun there just as in the movie

the dwarves are a race and the elves were the high elves before they become blood elves

see answer above (just like the US not entering WW2 it's not a hard concept to grasp dude)

that's what the dwarves are known for being great crafters

He transforms into a demon at the end and a bird during the movie

It's a a arcane guardian (or was going to be before the fel) (possibly The Curator)

the Fel is demon magic it comes from sargeras( I may be wrong on this partially)

There is no connection to Medivh and Gul'gan except that sargeras has put some of himself into him in the womb after his mother warding him off of azeroth

His mother, and almost all these questions don't even need answered to enjoy the film and at the same time it's to make you want to read the lore and delve more into Warcraft...

The Lord Of the Rings does the exact same fucking shit and even worse far far worse. Yet those movies are praised as the best fantasy of all time (not that they are or are not yes they rule) but fuck if you don't read the fucking index dictionary that is the silmarillion and the 4 other books then you only get like 10% of the story from the films.

Just got back from seeing it in Houston. Lived up to the 10 years of hype, wasn't disappointed with anything, and I'm disappointed in a lot of things in my life. I was amazed it actually got that PG-13 rating for the amount of carnage that goes on in it. People getting torn to shreds and their heads crushed, women and children getting thrown off cliffs in cages. Dat Gryphon, them mana addicted elves. The only thing I wanted was more of it. But hopefully that'll come out with the DVD, hopefully. Didn't they cut like 30 minutes of footage? I wanted this to do so well, and at least I got what I wanted.

She's been half Draeni for a very long time and there's no reason to introduce her next to them in the film otherwise.
>>
>>70627544
That's exactly what it felt like to me. The whole beginning of the movie was just showing so many locations trying to fit in as much "lol get this reference???" shit in. The murloc made me facepalm a bit.
>>
Saw it today. It seemed more like a B-list movie and I can understand why it was rated so poorly. The whole premise translates very badly into a serious movie narrative. Warcraft was always a campy fantasy with a lackluster plot-structure.

It's a cliché-fest from start to finish, many of the actors put in no effort at all, the settings and props look fake. All the armor looks like plastic and the locations look like a theme park.

The plot jumps around all the time, zipping from one name-dropped place to the other. There's no emotional impact, no character chemistry. Most of the interaction seems forced.
>>
>>70628989

Both movies have a very easy plot to follow.

LotR = frodo you're going on a journey and shit to get rid of this ring

Wacraft = Orcs you've been tricked by gul'dan to invade another world after destroying your own and now you're gonna be fighting humans.

Have you played it? It's pretty fucking great. Each faction feels unique and somehow CA actually made it so it runs great and has very few bugs. Quite frankly it's bizarre considering their reputation. The only downside is the diplomacy aspect is kind of weak.
>>
>>70629015
she's half human in the film

I just saw it an hour ago
>>
>>70629061

He specifically asks for his backstory you fucking idiot. You don't fucking get Bilbo's backstory in the fellowship or fucking gandalf or anyone you fucking cunt stop being a fucking moron and learn some reading comprehension.
>>
>>70629046
>The plot jumps around all the time, zipping from one name-dropped place to the other.
This is one of my major things against this movie, they wanted to do fanservice:the movie, and they kinda fucked it up because of it
>>
>>70629074

It's the shading.

>>70629090

I just saw it yesterday and not once does it mention that she's half human, she thinks she's half human. Like her whole backstory is that her uncle literally spends his life looking for her after finding out she was born.
>>
>>70629015
She's half human and daughter of Medivh somehow(because it would be too difficult to say some shit like "They're your people" in the dialogue where the Draenei appear)
>>
>>70629143
she was told that she was half human

it's literally in the first 10 minutes of the movie
>>
>>70629180

She's not Medivh's daughter she is his lover.
>>
>>70629124
Yeah, they went from the barracks, to Goldshire, to Karazhan in the span of like 3 or 4 conversations. I've never made a movie but even I could only shake my head at that.
It seems like they tried to cram 30 minutes of plot into 3.
>>
I was name dropping left and right and I was bored to shit
>>
>>70629219

That's not really that crazy, they are at the barracks but have to leave to see the king and tell him about the fel. The king then says to summon the guardian so they take a griffin to Karazhan.

Again I can reference Lord of the Rings WHERE THEY DO THE EXACT SAME SHIT EXCEPT IN THE LOTR SUDDENLY 20 YEARS HAVE PASSED
>>
>>70627960
exactly. The three losses in the movie had no impact because of this.

>>70628113
haha yeah, I agree. I don't know why I'm so apologetic, but those questions, except those Garona related, I didn't mind
>>
>>70629219
This is where I think the missing 40 minutes was. Apparently they cut it because they felt it made the movie too slow, which is fucking retarded when you're trying to world-build.
>>
>>70629015
She's half draenei lore wise, yeah we all know this. Movie wise they made her half human because.... Reasons?
>>
Also, what the fuck was up with Khadgar turning fel into light magic?? That shit wasn't clever and just an arsepull. I don't know what's going on in the moviemaking business these days, but it's clear they're trying to peddle movies to absolute retards. The original Warcraft story was a lot more clever than this and I believe if it was adapted properly, it would've made for a better movie (Sargeras please).
>>
>>70629318

It's all just an assumption though the orcs don't even know of humans yet so if they are the ones saying she's half human it makes no sense.
>>
>>70628889
I really didn't think that i'd like khadgar so much. He looked so silly with his pathetic excuse for facial hair in all the promos
>>

But you fucking do you goddamn retard
>>
>>70629366

No you don't he literally evades his birthday party then isn't in the rest of the 95% of the movie.
>>
Where is nerzul?

Didn't he predate guldan and after he took over nerzul got put in the frozen throne?
>>
>>70629287
I can agree that the beginning, with Gandalf's research after he sees the ring, feels rushed. But after that the story properly picks up.
In Warcraft the whole thing feels confused. It becomes hard to keep track of what's happening, whose side everyone is on. And that comes from someone who knows the source material. Are the orcs driven by demon blood now or are they 'muh honor' again? Why do they suddenly obey Gul'dan just because he killed three of them when they denounced him as an honorless monster just a moment ago?
>>
>>70629287
>Again I can reference Lord of the Rings WHERE THEY DO THE EXACT SAME SHIT EXCEPT IN THE LOTR SUDDENLY 20 YEARS HAVE PASSED
Oh, Jesus, I remember that. I had never heard of LoTR before watching the movie back in 2001. I decided to read the book after watching it and becoming obsessed with fantasy. I was expecting Gandalf's little "fact finding" mission to only last a few months at most, instead 20-30 FUCKING YEARS!

>>
>>70629401

Because in Fellowship of the Ring he's a pretty minor character. And you STILL learn more about him than the main characters of the Warcraft movie. You know it's his birthday, he's lived for ages, he's an old friend of Gandalf, he's Frodo's relative, he's hanging up his mantle, he's got secrets, he's reclusive, he's been on many adventures and longs to get away again, he cares deeply for Frodo and his old friend Gandalf, he lives in the Shire and seems to know everyone, he's apparently fairly well off, tells and writes tales of his adventures, and so on. This was all off the top of my head too and I haven't seen the movie in 8 years.

What can I tell you about Khadgar? Uh. He's a commander, brother to the queen, knows Khadgar.. and that's it. Oh right he's a father too. Had a son we saw once.
>>
>>70629401
>Bilbo gets the ring from Smeagol when he was on an adventure
>Ring gave him long life
>Bilbo was one of the only hobbits to do anything outside the shire

Literally all you needed to know about him for Fellowship seeing as he wasn't a main character. I'm sure there was more too
>>
>>70629472
The fact it took you 30 minutes to find an exception shows how unlikely it is.
Deal with it's failure and you'll feel better for it.
>>
>>70629541

I mean Lothar here. Look how much I give a fuck about the characters.
>>
>>70629445
It wasn't 20-30 years in the movie. It was one of the things they changed
>>
>>70629541
Lothar
>commander, brother to the queen, respects the King, has a son that he holds dearly because he's the only thing he has left, loyal, self confident enough to joke in time of danger, is askilled warrior, has the melanin fever and wants to bang the half orc chick
that's all I can remember
>>
>>70629366
Uh, no you don't, retard. You hear about some adventure with a dragon, he has a birthday, and then he leaves. You never actually know WHAT he did, or WHY. You just know that he was an adventurer or something. That's not a "backstory", that's just vaguely describing a part of his past to the audience. You don't learn the specifics or who he met and why. Or how Gandalf and fireworks are involved.

We see his son at least 4 times... Also what do you we know about bilbo in fellowship?

Oh he had an adventure once, it's his birthday, hes got a creepy face wow big fuckin deal.

>>70629604

Yes it was lol...

Gee, you mean like it doesn't hold any value to the Warcraft movie to explain every little detail of Lothar's backstory? Double standards are fun, aren't they?

Yeah and the arcane missiles and that shit Medivh does in the forest that takes out like 10 orcs or the bubble shield they use, or the teleports, fuck I just loved the magic in the movie so pumped for the second one now.

>>70630295

We'll have to agree to disagree until the creators acknowledge because if that's the case we might be getting some serious retcon coming in the next movie.
>>
>>70630328

Also the reason we'll have some serious fucking retcon in the movie is because we already don't have Garona at the tower when Medivh dies and it's not Lothar who kills him and Khadgar was not turned old so quite of bit of shit already in the movie although not really anything important. If they make Garona not have a child with Medivh there won't ever be another Guardian...unless they are trying to make Garona a guardian...which is a big fucking retcon.
>>

>>70630386
since you seem like a lore fag, why isn't Khadgar the new guardian?
>>
>>70630414

No the movies are implied it's 20 years but it's not even fucking mentioned that's the whole problem. You're pretending it's not happening but it happened. The whole reason it takes 20 years is because of how much traveling has to happen so it's not like they can suddenly not have to travel that far...

Why did they make the sets look so phony and awful?

I get they were kinda going for the cartoony look of warcraft but it looks super fucking jarring while watching REAL actors parade around the sets
>>
>>70630513

And to add basically with Medivh suddenly dying he has no time to train potential guardians (although yes he was planning on Khadgar to become one seeing his potential) but still the council has to make it happen or you're born with it from the previous one.
>>
>>70630513

>>70630574

I'm not sure what you're trying to say you clearly don't know the lore so why are you trying to argue? It doesn't take Gandolf 20 years on a horse to get anywehere nor does it take frodo 2 years to get to Mordor.

Because he had to do a LOT of backtracking, researching, and learning to find out about the Ring and it's history. Seeing as it was three thousand years beforehand, as well as him looking into that whole "Aragorn" thing, it taking 20 years is not all that difficult to imagine.
