Here's a random list of reasons why Highlander is fucking awesome:
1. There is no explanation of the immortals whatsoever, you are simply told they exist and that they are destined to fight for a prize. It's left the viewer to speculate what they are and where they come from
2. Excellent editing and intercutting of scenes e.g. McLeod's initial flashback to the highlands while watching, of all things, WWF; the fade from McLeod's face to a NYC wall graffiti of the Mona Lisa, implying a visual parallel of two ancient anachronisms
3. The scene where Kurgan drives hands-free is accompanied by a Queen cover of "New York, New York" which does not exist on any other recorded media, even the film's OST album
4. Fighting with fully weighted, albeit blunt swords. If the swordplay looks a bit clunky, it's because it's realistic weapons they're using
5. You can say what you like about Lambert's accent but there's no denying he has charisma. He's not just some muppet, you can believe he's actually a proud and very powerful 500 year old warrior (e.g. scene in police station where cop accuses him of being gay)
