>>
>>70555056
The Gary King stuff was a little too familiar to hear, but it's by far the weakest of the 3.

Honestly TWE felt like someone watched SOTD and HF and said to them "make another one like that with the action and emotional bits", it didn't feel nearly as genuine as the other 2. Not an awful movie at all, just not as good as it could/should have been.
>>
>>70555140
It makes me kinda sad, because the writers admit that the only way for Gary to go on is in a weird fantasy scenario with his old mates, and that if it was just real life, hed be fucked like the rest of us

I just can't get my head around this difference in people. Those that hold World's End as perfect or a low point.

It must be similar to how people react differently to high and low brow comedy.
>>
>>70554167
I don't like it because it's got no consistency of tone, it's all over the place. You go from maudlin' loser Gary pouring his heart out to punching out robots in a few moments. What I really like about the trilogy is how they managed to cover so many genres in just 3 movies. SOTD is a romantic horror comedy, HF an action thriller comedy and TWE a sci-fi drama comedy.
TWE's main problem is that some people cannot deal with drama.

Dude, Shaun's dilemma has nothing to do with the guy in AWE's problems. He was going to suicide, for fuck's sake. He was intended to kill himself right after that night, becuase his life was a huge failure. Getting drunk with his friends and get to that pub was the only thing that kept him alive, and the alien invasion that kills thousands of people saves his life.

I cry everytime.

Hoit Fuzz is stuck without a life. The whole point was a no. Functioning adult learning to redress his work life balance.
>>70557925
See my point about lacking subtlety.
Going for the "he was suicidal" bit was just cheap pulling on the heartstrings that for me actually lacked the emotional resonance that the earlier two had.
>>
>>70558156
I find it perfectly subtle since it is not even stated on the film. And you can't just say that any movie with a suicide character is bad. To me, that movie had much more emotional resonance than the others. Maybe because you have a happy life.
>>
>>70558358
>Not even stated
What wasn't stated? His attempted suicide...?
And no I'm not saying g it's always bad, I'm saying g it was bad in the context of a trilogy that already handled struggling protags far better in the previous two. Also, please don't presume what my life is or attempt to goad me into asking how bad yours is.

So unless the film. sits you down and slaps you across the face you can't tell when its being obvious? OK.

But sure, I will admit Pegg does not explicitly say "After tonight I am kill me." And by that virtue alone the rest of the treatment of his character is a beautifully subtle and not remotely cheap attempt at manipulation that delivers the same theme as the previous two but without any of the class.

I loved TWE.
It's all about a person looking for a closure and a new start as that bar crawl is symbolic to him.
I also really like Sisters of Mercy.
The alien bodysnatchers were unnecessary I think.
>>
>>70553546
The first one was funny and original. Each one thereafter felt like a forced rehash more ridiculous than the last. It wasn't originally planned as a trilogy, they just threw a lot of the same jokes from SoTD in to HF to capitalise on its success and by the third movie Pegg realised it was all he had. He's tried to do other shit since SoTD and it hasn't worked, so he and Edgar Wright have basically sat at a table and said, "Right, how can we remake SoTD as a new film? I know, let's throw some fucking robots in there this time, I'll do the fence thing again, people will love it!"

If they'd stopped at Shaun, people would still be praising it as a classic. Instead, people got a forced trilogy that they dislike because the latter two are shitty and unoriginal.
>>
>>70560362
You're an idiot. The jokes are similar but the context and characters changes.
>>
>>70558899

Did we watch the same movie? Hot Fuzz's action was so lame. It boiled down to nothing but shooting behind a wall with no tension or purpose. I didn't hate Hot Fuzz but I thought the "big action scene" they were building up to was a huge let down and it could've been so much more. SotD even did action better at the bar. It was tense and hectic and I felt so much more invested in it.

Completely missed the point of my post desu. I'm saying that when they made HF there were too many hat tips to Shaun, then after its success they decided to force a trilogy by coming up with a shitty idea for a third film with the same jokes shoehorned into it. Both Shaun and Hot Fuzz were made as standalone films, by the third Pegg and Wright were just cashing in on nostalgia points from the above and in doing so forcing three separate films into a supposed trilogy.

I have difficulties rating them, when I first watched SOTD I laughed like an idiot but on my second watching I thought "what the hell, this shit is hardly funny". It was like 10/10 the first time, 5/10 on the second and other times.

HF is a consistent 9/10.

TWE was meh, too predictable and without any remarkable laughs.
