it's "scripted" in the sense that the jokes are thought of before hand and written up and then the "actors" try and find a good spot to throw them in.

Also the Top Gear crew don't go for scripted jokes as much as they go for some scripted gags which are better in my opinion.
>>
>>70550913

Top Gear specials have the perfect mix of real interesting adventure, scripted / edited performances, and f e e l s. When clarkson starts rambling on about that piece of shit camaro he has to drive through the ass-crack of America I knew exactly what he was talking about and it really does keep you invested. Watching those specials you are rooting for the cars that have just as much personality as the hosts by the end of it and that is so rare to see on TV.

Clarkson told a story about some car, I cant remember which one but he owned it when he was young. He was working in London, had just cooked a chicken and got a call that his dad was in hospital in Yorkshire, Clarkson sped all the way there to see this dad and took the chicken for his mum to eat. Went travelling in Vietnam a few months ago and heard Born in the USA playing on 2 occasions. People there really couldn't give a shit, which I guess is why they got away with it so easily compared to the Patagonia thing.

Other funny easter egg after going there is that they act like 15m is a tiny amount of money when tourists who buy better bikes than the ones they did regularly only spend around 6-8m, and that's more than someone vietnamese would pay.

15 million dong is currently $671.25

They could not buy a decent CAR for $671.25 so they had to buy interesting motorbikes. (obviously they knew this in advance or at least the producers did)

I am sure they did not say how much the bikes cost them or that they cost the full 15 million dong, but I may have forgotten them telling us the prices. (I am sure they didn't)

Part of the used cars/bikes etup is also that they only get 1 hour to buy something. They allegedly don;t have days to get good stuff at a decent price.
The state of Clarkson's dangerous Vespa suggests this is probably true. It was a lemon and a deathtrap.
Hammond's bike was the absolute best buy and always was.
May's 50cc bike was a decent bike but I've owned a 50cc Honda it is NOT powerful enough for the long haul, as he discovered.

But all of this is deliberate. They educate you about the best vehicle to buy and show you how shit the other choices are, all done in a fun way.

>Part of the used cars/bikes etup is also that they only get 1 hour to buy something. They allegedly don;t have days to get good stuff at a decent price.
Would explain the Bolivia special, where May realised as he saw his purchase that it was a different colour to the one in the picture. If he'd had time to check and double check that wouldn't have been an issue. Maybe.

>>
>>70565442
Yeah just the point I'm making is that $671 is easily enough to buy a motorbike that will never break down, never have any issues going up hills or anything, and that's in 2016 let alone in 2008 or whenever the episode was. May's bike in particular would have been like $100, Hammond's maybe more along the lines of $150-200. Dunno about JC's, not sure what it is.

Not a particularly interesting fact, and obviously they're never going to buy something that doesn't break down since that's half of the entertainment value, but it's something that caught my attention when I came back and re-watched the episode having done something similar myself.
>>
>>70567101
Clarkson wouldn't have given a shit anyway, he hates bikes.
>>
>>70567101
And I will repeat what I said

They give them a limited time to buy the things, deliberately.

$100 dollars for May's bike? That's £68 at current exchange rates. If you can get me a Honda 50cc bike for 68 quid, please tell me and I'll buy them all.

One more thing - they did not say how much those bikes cost them at all, did they?

You can buy a super cub in most places around the world for that much. In the first world, you're looking at maybe 200 quid for one that's rusty but functional because they're workhorses that don't break down because they've got nothing to go wrong on them.

>>70567310
In Vietnam you can sure. That's absolutely the going rate for a Super Cub when I was there, could probably even get one for half that if you try really hard and get someone Vietnamese to buy it for you. They're pretty outdated bikes and there are a lot of them.

Going rate for a Honda Win (the most popular full size motorbike now instead of the Minsk) is around 200-250 for tourists, again less for locals.

>>70567400
This is the updated version of the bike James has, far newer and more up to date. You can see that the prices start at around $130, and bear in mind that listings on craigslist are purely aimed at tourists, a local would get one for less

https://vietnam.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=honda+wave&areaAbb=vietnam

That is the only opel from this time survived to this day because it is in desert where never rains. If you let it in the rain it will disintegrate like its made from sugar. I've never seen opel from 50 or 60. The oldest one is like from early 80 and it was rust painted with 5 different paints having rust spot everywhere couching brown balls of half burned fuel.

I like when they totally set fire to a stranger by accident with the flamethrower they'd stuck on a combine harvester.

Then they drove into a snow pile that just so happened to have a car parked in the middle of it!

Shit was amazing.

Wow you just opened my eyes, I never thought these events are scripted! You should also go to /asp/ and tell them wrestling isn't real, I bet they don't know that!

jap moot booted them off /sp/ for a reason

literally came in and asked: anything you wanna change? everyone was like errrrr you know what lets get mandrama fags off this board and half an hour later it was history

And? the point was that telling people top gear is scripted is like telling people wrestling is fake, everybody knows yet there are fags that are going to tell people it's not real like they were the smartest person in the world and discovered something new
