The point of writing a character backwards in the SW prequels was to lead back to episode 4. The OT basically told us everything that would happen.
De Niro's scenes worked because Vito had a mysterious past. Of course we knew he wasn't going to die, but exploring his past was more about getting to know him better than just lead into the Godfather.

well yeah thats the thing, if they were to change the title and names and shit, and had it be a different movie that stood on its own i could've appreciated the movie a bit more. But with it being connected to its predecessors its sooo bad. And even without sofia i still had some other problems with it.
