History Channel used to show a Band of Brothers Marathon on June 6th.

Today they're showing Rome shit in preparations for the Barbarian Rising series. Last Stand of the 300 (even though it isn't Roman...), Rome: Engineering an Empire, Caligua: Reign of Terror, and the movie Gladiator.

Can't say I mind the lineup....

So how does the Pacific stack up for you guys?
>>
>>70543185
The story is definitely there, just didn't have the same production quality IIRC, it's been a long time.
One of the books it's based on, Helmet for my Pillow, is really damn good.
>>
>>70543185

Ehhh. It's told differently than BoB. Focus on three characters (which i didn't find interesting at all besides Sledge). It didn't captivate me like BoB, but i think it's because the whole tale of BoB is a really amazing one. Their was, pardon my expression, more "run of the mill".

But the Pacific did succeed in showing the brutality of the pacific war. At times I wanted to stop watching because i was disgusted.

I really enjoyed him, and Sledge's sarge or whatever, the guy in charge of his platoon. And that old fucker that breaks during the fighting. UK laws.

It was filmed in the UK. UK requires you to use UK (now EU) actors unless you can show that you have to use a Non-EU actor for a role. That is why americans are limited to major roles in band of brothers, and part of the leeway they had was the main guy (Lewis) is a UK actor.

The pure manpower carnage on the eastern front is depressing. 30 million dead.

I am well aware the Russians bled them dry for us. Of course, the Russians would of not won if not for american Lend-lease.

If one of the three powers (UK, USA, and Russia) didn't put in the effort, both military and industrial, the Nazi's would of won. America's biggest input was industrial, British was bases, and Russia was the slavic horde.

Thats is not true at all, I guess if you compare it to modern day tanks then you have a point

Europe yes, which brings the question what would have happened in Asia, Africa and Pacific shit Japan occupied, Germany with the access to Russian oil and at this point probably massive bolster of troops from the rest of European countries, would have a straight forward campaign in Asia and Africa, invasion of America would probably be next to impossible, and Japan would probably not even be able to hold Australia or quarter of China

True, it wasn't "can't see" but it was limited.

Most historical documents show that in combat the hatch was almost always open unless there was weather.

Japan was a lost cause after Midway due to the lost of skilled pilots and 4 carriers sunk.

Also, if the war in Europe dragged too long, america was going to nuke Germany.

I see the question has already been answered, but the Cromwell especially had shit visibility. Marked is the single forward periscope for the commander of a Cromwell and Sherman.

indeed,

though unique enough, some units, including airborne, had no draftees in the american system.

Was a lost cause after Coral Sea, Shokaku got put out of commission for Midway and they didn't pursue American carriers which then went on to fight at Midway. Also lost a ton of pilots.
