After some retuning they got the format working and people who weren't even interested in cars would tune in for the host chemistry.
The trio was so widely enjoyed that they went on tour, doing live shows as well.
Top Gear has been attempted with other hosts before, such is the case with Top Gear Australia but the format on its own can't draw people like the chemistry of Clarkson, May and Hammond.
There is something very relatable about their hi-jinks and banter, whether it be in a studio or out of the country.
That's why Amazon is putting so much into this new show, they know this cast is the true draw that made the little BBC production that was Top Gear into worldwide mainstream appeal.
