Rorschach had similarly 'lost his humanity', the only reason he got emotional during the end was because Nite Owl had managed to bring some of it back to Rorschach.
The whole point of the character was his black and white moral views, he couldn't compromise that.
The 'origin story' of Rorschach in the comic explains him better he just dies inside during that. It was just one of the things the movie fucked up entirely.
