My guess is that they're going to use Brienne as a tool to redeem Jaime - again.
In the books Jaime swears a vow to Catelyn that he will never again harm a Stark or Tully. Later on when he wishes to redeem himself he intends on keeping that vow, which clashes with his duty of recapturing Riverrun. His relationship with Cersei is heavily strained by Tyrion telling him that she's been fucking her servants (and possibly a retard), and by the end of the book he decides to turn his back on her.
In the show Jaime was never shown making this vow. We also don't see him having much interest in redeeming himself. Instead we get him emphasizing his bond with Cersei, which happens because Tyrion never told him about Kettleblack or Lancel or Moon Boy.
So at the moment it wouldn't make sense for Jaime to act the way he does in the book.
I'm thinking that Brienne will be the one to make him change his ways. She'll appeal to his better nature and inspire him to reset his priorities. She'll talk him into being a man of honor, of not turning on the Tullys and maybe even convince him Cersei treats him like shit.
The nail in the coffin will come from Sandor. Rather than fight the Mountain in a sanctioned battle, he will murder him independent of the Faith and rob Cersei of her champion. Then she'll write a letter to Jaime at Riverrun and, thanks to Brienne inspiring good in him, he'll burn it.
