I read two books per week and I watch every single sporting event I can. Sports are the greatest way to unwind I know of. They allow you to feel passionate about something even if it's inconsequential to the larger world.

No stopping of play except for halftime means they have to get clever with their advertising. I agree this looks stupid though. They should just pipe subliminal messages to the fans through the stadium PA system.

that's like being passionate about the fucking weather. literally everyone talks about it. if your interest is fucking football you may as well tattoo "pleb" on your forehead.

i guess the only difference is is that the weather isn't totally inconsequential.
>>
>>70473588
>It's beyond boring.
it's like baseball (and american football, and hockey, most sports, etc)
You don't watch it because it's a riveting action packed entertainment, you watch it because it's an excuse to drink for 4 hours.
It's also a chance for people who don't go out very often to go out (and drink for 4 hours), and for people with shitty interpersonal skills to have a common thing to talk about to almost anyone "did you see the game last night?".

Likely due to their fathers or father figures instilling in them a love of sport at a young age. Sport is not at all an intellectual pursuit save for potential gambling based on statistical predictions, but that's not what you meant.

I worked with Chris O'Dowd on another show. One day on set another actor on the same show was talking about a recent job he did with Matt Berry, who plays Douglas in the IT Crowd.

Chris turned to the actor who had just mentioned Berry and said, with a totally straight face "Oh yeah Matt was in that wasn't he? What's he like?"

They worked on IT crowd for how many years?

"What's he like?"

(turns out Berry is widely disliked amongst actors and producers. More than one person has told me he makes them uncomfortable)

I've also been told by several colleagues who've worked with him that Peter Kay is an absolute cunt.
>>
>>70470495
This joke is literally Redd*t. This joke was probably funny at once, but now it is overused and parroted by people who know nothing about the sport. It is easy to pick out the redd*tors and 9g@ggers from this shit joke. And besides Feo has been pretty poor for a couple of seasons so I doubt Arsenal fans even want him on the pitch. He doesn't justify his wage.
>>
>>70484119

I have also heard that about Peter Kay.

You'd be amazed how many self-made comedy stars are utter arseholes.

The ones with money, the ones who come from money - they're generally nicer people. A chip on the shoulder really fucks a man up. There are obviously exceptions to this.
>>
>>70484294
Our sports in America go on commercial like every 3 minutes and we have ads all over stadiums. I don't think either us or Europe has the high ground on lack of advertisements. And they didn't actually wear a Chelsea kit with Samsung along the crotch.

There was an Arsenal game this season (against Sheffield Wednesday I think) where this episode was pretty much perfect for. Arsenal lost 3-0 and Walcott got subbed off because of an early injury.

Never worked with him. Stephen Fry is a lovely man. James Nesbitt is a gent. He'll remember your name from a job he did 15 years before, and he cares what other crew do.

The overwhelming majority of actors are decent types. Cuntiness is not in any way linked to fame. Daniel Craig is approachable and generous. So is Russell Crowe. Yet some people who can at best be described as panel show attendees are fucking twats.
>>
>>70484965

The only one I can buy here is James Nesbitt.
>>
>>70474579
Tell me about Bane. Why does he wear the mask?
>>
>>70485091

I'm not saying any of them are open to being annoyed or unnecessarily bothered. There are always lines you don't cross. But they will say hello. They'll remember your name and what you do. They'll get to know the crew, even trainees. They like to drink with the crew. Etc etc. Not specifiy those above, although they were all nice.

Geoffrey Palmer was the nicest actor I ever worked with. And Postlethwaite. Although you had to drink with him to get to know him.
