Hot damn this movie was Made For /tv/™ but I haven't seen a single thread about it.

It was a really good movie right up until they left the hotel.

Hell, I'd give it up until they find the diary. Point being the more they focused on Colin Farrell's relationship with Rachel Weisz the worse the movie got.

That ending sucked dick.

I think you have a point there sir. Still movie of the year for me. Lots of waifu material, in particular this chick.

I feel like I would have enjoyed this story more as a book than as a movie. The girl's narration didn't feel very necessary.

Is it worth going to see or can I just wait? Only theater playing it is an hour away

It's one of the best movies so far this year imo. If you're on this goddamn board you will probably relate to it in a big way.
>>
>>70454031
it's been available on public trackers for months

if you don't feel like driving an hour, just torrent it

that said it's probably worth seeing in theater

Lobsters are immortal and live a simple life
>>
>>70454031
That depends, it's incredibly understated and blunt (Almost borderline autistic in a genuine sense.) and has a lot of borrowed tropes from the director's previous work, albeit in a slightly more digestible way. If you don't mind a slightly more accessible pretentious european art house flick, then it's worth a watch. You can just pretend it guest stars Dr. Steve Brule and not miss a beat if you're on the fence.
>>
Everyone saw it months ago when the DVDRIP was out
>>
>>70454031
It's worth seeing it in a theatre, especially if you liked Dogtooth. Movie is hilarious

>>70452401
Pretty great film. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it and experienced a sense of wonder at how truly inaccessible it is to normies, yet how perfectly its sense of black humor clicked with me.
>>
>>70453498
That was comedy, anon. It's humorous to see people speaking in such a monotone matter of fact way, like a funhouse mirror of real life social interaction. If you think that was the movie "trying to be art" you are probably au_____c
>>
>you will never have a secret language to profess your love

>>70453498
this

having people talk weird is the easiest and most boring/annoying to hear way of making something "funny" or absurd

their actions are absurd enough, have them talk like real fucking people
>>
>>70454823
>truly inaccessible it is to normies
It's no Marvel film obviously, but it's not that inaccessible compared to most artfilms.
>>

>You stay at a hotel for 45 days and if you don't find a mate you get turned into an animal

Yes, but why?
>>

The fact that you have to ask means you're not ready for this type of film.

So far The Witch is best movie of 2015 for me.

I liked The Lobster. It just seems like any scene could be removed and the movie would lose very little or nothing, as if the final product isn't all that compelling. I actually saw dogtooth (also by lanthimos) and enjoyed that more than I did the lobster.

>>70454952
I think the flat voices and personalities serve a pretty clear purpose. It's all to suggest we're extremely fake when we're courting the opposite sex. You may be right that the non-traditional speech route is an easy one, but I don't think that, assuming you're correct, hurts the movie.
>>
>>70452401
why did the lady want to blind herself in the end?
>>
>>70455480
I'll-informed bait aside, this was actually one of my favorite parts of the movie.

Was he [considering] doing that to himself because society necessitated it (in other words, they'd be outed and separated of they weren't both blind), because he really was brainwashed into thinking his love for her would only exist if they shared the same affliction, or was it some combination of those two things?

It's not an art film. Charlie Kaufman has been making relatively mainstream movies like this for almost 20 years. What the fuck does art film even mean anyway? Christ you're an idiot.
>>
>>70455605
Was wondering the same myself, but I think it was a combination of the two.

I thought she was just having lasik to correct her vision but the loner leader tricked her and blinded her instead. She wanted to be blinded? Seemed like she was hesitant.

>>70455605
I think he needed something in common with her to connect with her. In their society people are forced together, so I guess it's easier if they have something to share. Same with the nosebleed thing.

All of them won oscars, all of them box-office failures.
